What's PB1 been reading these days, anyway? What turns his crank, gets his creative juices flowing, inspires his pen? What kind of movies and music does he like? Who is this guy anyway?

Following is a list of my favourite stories, authors, movies, music, websites, etc. I highly recommend you check them out.

Reading Resources

Storiesonline.net -- the neighborhood I grew up in.

Asstr.org -- unlimited free porn stories, more than you'll ever be able to read in your entire life.

Bartleby.com -- Every great work of literature ever written, ever, completely free. A great place to browse for casual reading, and writing ideas.

Writing Resources

On Writing, by Stephen King -- one of the best books on writing out there. Every writer should read this one at least once.

The Elements of Style, by Strunk & White -- The first reference book a writer should own.

Dramatica Theory Book -- free online reference for structuring a story, creating characters, and driving a plot forward. There's computer software that goes with this too, but the online book is free.

Writing in General and the Short Story in Particular by Rust Hills -- if you can find this little handbook anywhere, grab a copy. It's packed full of short, easy-to-understand essentials of story writing.

The Art of Fiction by John Gardner -- this one's a tougher read, Gardner gets into some deep and technical philosophies of fiction for quite a few pages, but there are some exercises in here that can change your whole way of thinking about writing.

Movies

IMDB.com -- the one place you need to look up movies, actors, directors, casts and crews for pretty much every movie ever made. I hit this site at least a couple times a week.

Music

Digitaldreamdoor.com -- Can't think of what you feel like listening to? Check out this site for lists of the greatest musicians, bands, albums, and songs of all time.

Popculturemadness.com -- what song was number one in March of 1981? What were the current fads and lingo? What about October of 1938? This site is a great resource for pop culture references in your stories.

Humour

SexyLosers.com -- absolute sickest comedy you'll find on the net that's still pretty frickin' funny. If you think a necrophiliac working for a suicide prevention hotline is humorous, this is the site for you. Too bad the author discontinued it.

The Onion-- a news parody with current events seen through the odd perspective of tongue-in-cheek cynicism, and comical op/ed pieces by regular, everyday Joes and Janes. Always good for a laugh, especially my hero, Smoove B.

Bash.org -- some funny-ass internet chat conversations, real dialogs that people actually had over the net. Laugh-out-loud funny.

Cyanide and Happiness -- Sometimes sick, sometimes just plain weird, this little web comic is usually good for a laugh, if you've got the sense of humour for it.

Favourite Comedians -- the funniest people on the planet, in my opinion

Brian Regan - "Take... luck!"

Dane Cook - "I was talking to this girl the other day and she said 'All guys want is sex.' And I go, 'Listen finish blowing me and we're gonna talk about this later.'"

Jerry Seinfeld - "There's very little advice in men's magazines, because men don't think there's a lot they don't know. Women do. Women want to learn. Men think, 'I know what I'm doing, just show me somebody naked.'"

Joe Rogan - "I tried smoking when I was a kid. I didn't like it so I quit. But you get one good blowjob when you're 15 and you are FUCKED for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!"

Dave Attell - "Sex and murder are pretty much the same anyway. Well, you say the same thing after both of them... 'Damn! I gotta get outta here! What was I thinking!?'"

Chris Rock - "If a girl has a pierced tongue, she'll probably suck your dick... If a guy has a pierced tongue, he'll probably suck your dick."

Mitch Hedberg - "I'm addicted to heroine... I need to have sex with women who have saved someone's life... alright..."

Steven Wright - "I got a postcard from my friend George. It was a satellite picture of the entire earth and on the back he wrote... wish you were here..."

Richard Jeni - "Say what you will about Charles Manson, he's one of the only people out there who has the decency to look like a dangerous maniac the first time ya meet him!"

Software

Nonags.com-- I usually go here when I'm looking for a utility for my computer. It's all free, and as the title says, they're not nagging you to register the thing every few hours.

Naked Ladies

Baremaidens.com -- I do freelance writing for this guy. Cool little site: it's porn with a fantasy twist to it.

WhatBoysWant.com -- "Do you have any of those books where guys send in naked pictures of their chicks?" - Otto the bus driver, The Simpsons. Here's a site where chicks send in naked pictures of themselves, looking for high ratings or something. Go figure. I kinda miss the good old days when seeing a pretty girl naked was a rare and precious treat.

Weird and Cool Shit

TerraGen -- Photorealistic scenery generator. O, TerraGen, how many hours have I lost to you, just rendering cool little scenes on my computer?

Celestia -- Explore the entire universe from your desktop with this real-time 3D intergalactic flight simulator/time travel machine. The universe apparently really is an amazingly huge place.

Aaron --  an aritifical intelligence that creates art. Some of these paintings are pretty cool, and it's fun to watch. Yes, I am a geek. (This link requires Java applets to run, but you can also download the application to run from your computer.)

* If you can suggest any decent resources I haven't listed here, let me know. I'm sure there are thousands of great sites I've never even heard of.
