She is joined on the front porch of her cabin by Morris the squirrel, who gets treated to dry roasted peanuts. What will the two newly aquainted friends talk about? Squirrel Talk by Marcia Hooper (MarciaR26@aol.com) Lindsey sat on the front porch swing, staring out across the lake. Her legs were tucked beneath her in the lotus position and she hummed softly. The morning fog had burned off, leaving the shore line opposite in full view. One of her neighbors was in a small skiff, drift fishing, while another stood on the shoreline with a line cast in the water. A cool breeze drifted in from the northwest, rippling the water; the crystal sky above gave promise to another beautiful day. Suddenly, Morris the squirrel jumped onto the front porch directly before her, startling Lindsey and making her laugh. "Well, hello there you," she said. "I thought you weren't gonna show." In her lap was a bag full of roasted peanuts, bought the day before at the Stop and Shop Mercantile in Ludlow. After Morris had shown up in the morning for a second day in a row, Lindsey made the trip, wondering if squirrel feeding was such a good idea. But she could not resist. The little guy was just so cute. Unwrapping the tie, Lindsey opened the bag and extracted half a dozen peanuts. "Here you go," she said, tossing one down. Morris caught it in his teeth. "You are such a clever boy." Morris worked the shell with his front paws. The day they were to leave, Lindsay had taken off to pack and clean the apartment, while Frank worked. He had not arrived home until eight o'clock that evening, sour and grumpy, and then subjected Lindsey to a four hour drive. She had slept most of the way. But Frank had redeemed himself, taking Lindsey to bed and riding her as he had not done since their first weeks together. She had hobbled to the bathroom at three a.m., in bowlegged embarrassment, yelling for him to shut up. Morris showed up the next morning. Doing her exercises on the porch, Morris had watched as she waved her body to and fro, rowed her arms, balanced on one foot and then the other, then chanted softly to herself in a spiritual hum. She fed him stale bread and Morris ran away. In the afternoon, Frank built a fire on the outdoor grill and broiled t-bone steaks. They had just started on a second bottle of Lambrusco, when Frank took Lindsey's drink from her hand and lay her down on the blanket. Giggling, Lindsey found herself being kissed and tickled all over, then having her shirt unbuttoned. There was plenty of daylight remaining. "Frank!" she protested, laughing. "People can see!" "I know," Frank said, baring her breasts. Lindsey looked quickly around. A cabin to their right was visible through a clearing in the trees, and this close to the side of the cabin, they were visible from the lake and the road. "You are so bad," she whispered. "I know that too." He kissed her right nipple, then the other, and then sucked them both hard. "I'm telling mommy," Lindsey said. She attempted to close her shirt, but Frank waylayed her hands. "Don't make me tie these behind your back," he threatened. Lindsey grinned. "That could be interesting." "That could be interesting as hell." They made love in the cool, September evening. Out on the lake, a cabin cruiser lumbered past and Lindsey saw three men standing in the rear. Each held a beer. Two women lay sunning on the bow. A single engine plane, suprisingly loud in the cool still air, crossed the lake east to west. "Ready for more?" she asked. Morris, standing erect, pawed the air. Lindsey dropped him another peanut. Frank had left right after dawn that morning, with two of the neighbors. Jeff Poole was a programmer and web page designer from Colorado, who Lindsey thought looked like David Caruso. She grinned, remembering how Jeff caught her slipping him a furtive glance. Jeff was very attractive. Sam Horval, on the other hand, was big-bellied and bellicose. He eyed Lindsey the way a butcher eyes a side of beef, wondering which cut to start on first. Just being in the same room with Horval gave Lindsey the creeps. She could not imagine a Mrs. Horval. Without warning, Morris leapt onto her right knee and scampered back and forth. "Ow!" Lindsey exclaimed, concerned with his claws. "Don't you move!" Still in her nightshirt, Lindsey's legs were bare almost to her panties. With one short hop, the squirrel could be in her lap. Worse, if he leapt and missed the small stretch of material over her crotch, he'd land on her crotch. What an ouch! that would be. Lindsey tossed a peanut onto the porch, and landing on all fours, Morris grabbed his prize and attacked the shell. Lindsey dropped him two more. Before Frank had left, Lindsey raised her night shirt and commented, dryly: "This will look good with my bikini, don't you think?" Two hickeys adorned each breast, plainly visible above the nipple. Frank kissed her gently beneath the chin. Then he removed her shirt. "It's too cold to swim in the lake," he said. "I wasn't thinking about swimming," Lindsey said, as Frank continued to kiss. "I was thinking about laying out." "Sunbathe nude," he said. Lindsey giggled. A shiver ran down her spine. She tried to protect her neck. "Stop!" she cried. "I'm already one big hickey!" "If that's true, I insist you sunbathe nude." Lindsey continued to laugh. "Maybe I will!" "You will not!" "I will if you're not here to stop me!" Frank eyed her. "I call the neighbors, then. Invite them to watch." A pickup truck bounced by on the graveled road outside and the driver beeped. Lindsey covered her breasts. "People can see," she said, looking out the big window. "I know. Let them." "Frank!" Frank laughed again. He uncrossed Lindsey's arms and put them at her sides. Then he kissed her breasts, languishing on each nipple, devoting his full attention. Lindsey began to squirm. "You're making me horny." "I certainly am." "But you're going to leave." "Yes." "Leaving me alone." "That's the idea." Lindsey considered what a nude sunbather would offer her neighbors. She considered how sunbathing nude would feel. Then she shuddered as Frank nipped her with his teeth. "Son of a bitch," she muttered. "Right again." Removing half a dozen peanuts, Lindsey placed them on the porch at her feet. Morris gave the pile a cursory once over, then returned to his eating. She closed the bag and stood up. "Care to join me?" she asked, brushing off her lap. Morris continued to eat. "If you decide, I'll be out back." Opening the front door, Lindsey set the bag of peanuts on the floor and re-closed the door. She looked at the lake. So far as she could tell, no one was looking. With one quick motion, she lifted the nightshirt over her head and stood beside the gently rocking swing. On it, she dropped her nightshirt. "This is very liberating," she informed Morris, pushing back her hair. "You should try it some time." Quickly removing her panties, Lindsey retrieved the bottle of Coppertone and the towel from beside the swing. She stepped off the porch. Out on the lake, the three men in the boat stopped what they were doing and stared intently toward the cabin. At half a mile, Lindsey doubted they could tell she was nude. But they continued to stare. After Lindsey had disappeared around the side of the cabin, Morris polished off the remaining six peanuts, scampered across the lawn to a tall oak and climbing it, disappeared into a nest at the top. For a time, the men in the boat argued amoungst themselves, gesturing toward the cabin. Eventually, they returned to drinking their beer. Occasionally, one stared longingly at the cabin. After a time, their curiosity waned. Lindsey's cabin became just another cabin on the lake.
