Young bodies slid together as the clothes separating them were slipped off and dropped to the floor of the car. The night was warm but the windows were up to thwart the clouds of mosquitoes that lived in the low laying ground by the creek. The lovers lane held only the one car and it was quiet enough to hear the sounds of nature as well as the impassioned noises from the back seat. The two of them were locked in a world of soft flesh and hard need, driven by the urges of teenaged hormones and their perceived love for each other. Their world ended at the limits of the large back seat and excluded all else. Full of the wonder of sexual discovery and feelings that they were sure that no one else had ever experienced. It may have been the first time or it may have been the tenth or even the hundredth for them, we will never know because their private world was broken and ended when the door of the car was pulled open. The dome light came on to illuminate the naked flesh and the shocked faces. The scrambling to cover exposed private parts was seen by whoever opened the door. He may have enjoyed the scene or he may have been angered. The shock on the young faces must have changed to horror and fear when the .45 pistol aimed at them. They felt the impact of the large heavy slugs entering their soft tissues, watched the muzzle flash, been hammered by the blast as it reverberated in the small area, saw the red blossoms explode in their lover's skin, and helplessly witnessed the fall of the never ending darkness. The gun withdrew and the door closed as the echoes of the gunfire faded. He walked back to his car leaving the bodies to be found in the morning by fishermen. The raw facts of this crime are few- the bodies of a teenaged couple were found nude or nearly so in the back seat of the boy's family's car. They had been shot to death by a .45 auto pistol. There was no sign of a struggle. All the evidence pointed to a surprise intrusion and a quick shooting. The girl's father was reported to have been upset over the relationship and did own a .45 pistol. The gun was never reported tested for ballistics nor was it even found until the father used it to commit suicide a week or so after the murders. The investigation basically ended at that point as far as the public was concerned. There were stories that the father had followed the two lovers and had killed them in a fit of anger over his little girl being used that way. This take on things was accepted by members of the local law enforcement community at the time and may very well be the case. Lovers lanes seem to have lost much of their usefulness lately. Back when this happened [late 60s] it was common for every lane to have at least one car parked in the dark. The old boats had huge back seats that made reasonable beds and many a girl surrendered her virginity in the back seat of her boyfriend's car. Needless to say this one screwed up the use of the lanes for a while.
