The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating. The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story. ***** REVIEWS ----- Rogue Review No. 191 - September 21, 1998 High Rise by Mike Hunt M/F Length: 6,500 words SUMMARY Mike has a fling with one of his neighbors. COMMENTARY This story is soft in some ways. I also find it disturbing in another ways. The author does deal with the "element" that I find disturbing, but only as an after thought, it seems. The author misspells "faux pas," a French expression meaning mistake. Oh, the irony. RATING This is a grudgingly good story. COMMENTARY There is a twist at the end. The main character's motivation seems to be revenge. RATING This is a good story. COMMENTARY To say that I liked this story would be putting it mildly. I found it both arousing and mentally stimulating. The plot is very well constructed. The author does a good job including relevant details and leaving the rest to the imagination of the reader. He also does a top notch job of mixing sex into a story that includes quite a bit more. RATING This is an outstanding story. COMMENTARY This is a very funny story, but I think the author could have cut it short. I was not completely satisfied with the ending. If you are a man who is obsessed with the size of his trouser snake, then you may not find this story amusing. COMMENTARY This is a stroke story, but the sudden introduction of some colorful elements distinguish it from your garden variety stroke story. I would have preferred a little less dialogue and a little more description, or just a little less description. COMMENTARY Up until the very end this story seemed rather plain and uninteresting to me. There is a twist at the end. This is not your average sex story. COMMENTARY I did not find this story particularly arousing or stimulating. There was nothing compelling in the plot. I did not feel one way or the other about the characters. COMMENTARY I really like this story, but it is a shame that the author did not draw it out a little bit more. I like the characters and I like the way the author leads into the sex. COMMENTARY This story is a little disturbing. There is something about it that rubs me wrong and I cannot figure out what it is. The ending is appropriate, but somewhere in the story something felt out of place or missing. Possibly it is the fact that a female author wrote a story from the male point of view and I think she did a damn good job of it. I am not sure. SUMMARY Jack discovers sex, after moving in with Karen and her mother. COMMENTARY I found this, the first installment, both arousing and disturbing. On the one hand Jack is aroused by the situation, on the other he is convinced that what he is doing is wrong. I take this as an indication that he has a sense of responsibility; how refreshing. I did not give this part of the story a higher rating because there is not enough character or plot development. On the other hand, it does show a lot of promise.
