The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating. The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story. ***** REVIEWS ----- No. 174 - August 31, 1998 Summer Camp by MichaelD M/F, M/F/F, Teen Length: 31,300 words SUMMARY Mitch, a college student, takes a job teaching martial arts at a camp for teenage girls. COMMENTARY This is a story to be savored. It is well written and I find it very arousing. As the author says in the note before the text, this is not as romantic as some of his other works, but there is more to the story than just sex. I like the characters. They have doubts and desires. Sex is not their only pursuit in life. JUDGMENT This is an outstanding story. COMMENTARY This is a bittersweet story. Dee remembers the good and the bad parts of her affair with Paul. It is an arousing story. It is also a sad story. Above all, it seems realistic. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. COMMENTARY The characters in this story are reluctant to jump into bed, too quickly, but both of them want it. The author takes the time to set the mood. I like that. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. Cynthia's daughter, Karen, comes home early and gives Craig a nice surprise. COMMENTARY This is an arousing story, but it is a bit lacking. There is a bit too much sex and too little character development, in the middle of the story, to suit my tastes. I much preferred the first and last thirds of the story, in which there was a better mixture of plot, characterization, and sex. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. ----- No. 178 - September 3, 1998 A Slip of the Tongue by Lord Malinov Voy Length: 2,000 words SUMMARY Two guys spy on some women. COMMENTARY This is very well written. There is a lot of dialogue. I like the back and forth between Kevin and his friend. The author does a wonderful job of both relating a story, on the one hand, and describing a scene, on the other. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. COMMENTARY This is an interesting story. I got the impression that the patient is a man, but that is not explicitly clear from reading the story. The subject of discussion, the patient's neighbor, reminded me of a character from Heinlein's _I Will Fear No Evil_. I'm not too sure what the point of this story was. I did not find it arousing. There was not much of a plot. There is some character development. It fits in well with the title of the author's now defunct Home Page, LeAnna's Musings. JUDGMENT This is a good story. COMMENTARY It is not a good sign when my mind starts to wander while I am reading a story. I find the manner in which this story is told pretentious. I could really care less about either of the characters. There is sex, but not much of a spark. The plot is bland. The characters are not much better. I did not care for this story. COMMENTARY I like the author's touch. Crimson Dragon does a nice job of balancing the two characters. They both seem real. They both have depth. I like the plot. It is well paced. Hawk F/M, F-solo, M-solo, Teen, Inc Length: 5,600 words SUMMARY Martina has the hots for Kenny. Kenny has the hots for Martina. Kenny is Martina's sixteen-year-old son. COMMENTARY I like the characters in this story. Both mother and son are eager to get the other between the sheets, but they also have their doubts. The story does not focus on the sex as much as does on how they deal with their feelings. This story is very quickly paced. It feels like this was supposed to be a longer story, but the other did not have either the time or the inclination to develop it fully. JUDGMENT This is a very good story.
