The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating. The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story. ***** REVIEWS No. 132 - August 3, 1998 The Tease (Chapters 1-5) by J. B. Mast M/F Length: 9,600 words SUMMARY Steve meets Mary on the North Shore of Oahu. She teases him mercilessly. COMMENTARY The first five chapters of this incomplete story read like the title. Poor Steve never gets to dip his wick or cum, except for the one time when he jerks himself off. Mary, on the other hand, comes at least three times; with Steve's assistance, of course. I felt teased right along with Steve. I kept on waiting for the moment when Mary would give Steve what she literally has him begging for, but it never comes (and neither does he). This story is very arousing and very well written. Steve is a putz, who lets his cock do all the thinking, and Mary is a tease, who manipulates Steve masterfully (or would that be mistress-fully). They are not deep characters, but I like the way the author uses them. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story (so far). COMMENTARY The title is so innocent. It reminds me of something on AMC, but wow is this story hot! The author has done a wonderful job of interweaving the sex and the story line. It starts with the sizzle of sex and ends with it too. The reader knows how the story is going to end, but at the same time the reader does not know the details. If it sounds like I am impressed with this story, then you are on the right track. Do NOT pass GO, do NOT collect $200 until you have read this story. JUDGMENT This is an outstanding story. SUMMARY Two lovers, one married, rendezvous beneath a bridge. COMMENTARY This is a bitter sweet story about one last time between a married woman and her lover. I think the author went a little overboard with the sex. I would have liked to have learned a little more about how their relationship had been. This is a quiet story. It does not reach up and grab you. It pulls you in slowly. The story was a good one. I just wish the author had devoted a little more time to the story and a little less to the sex. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. COMMENTARY This is a quiet, gentle story. I like the descriptions. The author conveys quite a bit, but also leaves quite a bit up to the reader's imagination. It is not clear why the main character does what she does, but the author does make clear what she gets out of what she does. It is an interesting piece. I enjoyed it. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. The first was "Sally Learns Her Lesson" [Rogue Review No. 80]. SUMMARY Tommy loses him virginity. COMMENTARY This is an amusing little piece. I wish it were longer, or that there was more to the story. JUDGMENT This is a good story. COMMENTARY This is a nice little story, with a twist at the end. It is well written. I like the way the author fades back and forth between the present and the past. The characters felt real. The plot was not complicated, but it works. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. COMMENTARY I'm not too sure why the author titled this story the way he did. I was a bit afraid it would squick me, but it did not. The sex is consensual, although one of the participants is tied down. The story both describes and leaves out details of the couple's relationship. At one point I thought it would involve lycanthropy, but it did not. The point is that the author does a great job with the details he left out, as well as those he included. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. COMMENTARY I liked this story. I like the way the author builds up the moment, and then cuts away. He gives you just enough details so that you know what is going to happen, but then does not describe it. The details he omits are as important as the ones he includes. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. These are the only two chapters that were ever written. Maybe one of our friendly, neighborhood, sex story writers could write an ending to it. SUMMARY Julie and Harold meet in the shower. They have budget cuts and a fire to thank for their little encounters. COMMENTARY This is a good beginning. There is both plot and character development. The author shows us how attraction develops between the two and how both are somewhat apprehensive. He also introduces a villain. This story shows definite potential. It is a shame it was never finished. JUDGMENT This is a very good story (so far). COMMENTARY I think the author does a good job with the plot and with the pacing of the story. I like the way the author uses the element of magic, for the most part. The story reminds me of something Anne Rice might write. There is a group in it that resembles the Talamasca. The manner in which most of this story is told seems cold and detached. There are many scenes that are reasonably well written, but suffer because they lack life. There are a few grammatical and spelling errors. The author over uses and misuses the word 'whilst'. The story has a cliffhanger ending. The author has promised to write a sequel, but it will take him a few months. JUDGMENT This is a good story, but there are many places within it where it seems cold and lifeless, sterile.
