Note 1: Taking a suggestion from someone on ASSD I have decided to
start publishing my reviews several at a time instead of individually.

Note 2: If you are interested in receiving my reviews individually you
can join my mailing list (Sex Stories Discussion List). I have set it
up not just for my own reviews, but for anyone else who wants to post
their reviews or thoughts about any stories found on
Alt.Sex.Stories.Moderated or any of the other ASS newsgroups.

Note 3: If you want to find out more about why I it set it up when
there already is a newsgroup for that purpose then I recommend you
read the essays I posted to ASSD, "ASSD: An Experience" and "Seven
Conclusions from a Heated Debate". These can also be found on my home

Letters by Darkside

M/F, tg, transform

Length: 7,900 words

Summary

Jennifer and John's mother passes away. She leaves some letters for
them to read. They discover some startling facts about their
parents.

Commentary

I enjoyed this story. It was melodramatic to the point of being
whole wheat. The melodrama added humor. The plot was good, simple
but entertaining. The characters were a bit wooden, but then I
consider that normal seeing as it was a melodramatic story.

There was an occasional sentence with a word out of place. The sex
was a bit forced, although the way it was introduced did make me
laugh. With a more work I think this could have been an excellent
story.

Rating

I give this story a 7 on a scale of 10.

French Kisses by Sandman

M/F, M/F/F

Length: 9,700 words

Summary

Jean-Claude grows up in France during World War Two. He learns about
sex from his sister and his father's mistress. He goes on to further
sexual adventures. This was a companion piece to Janey's April by
Janey.

Commentary

I read Janey's April and did not like it. I was not sure what to
expect. I was pleasantly surprised. French Kisses is a beautifully
told story. There were a handful of episodes. They all flowed
together nicely. Sandman took a story of Janey's that I felt was
lacking, among other things, any redeeming values and breathed real
life into it.

There was no real plot, other than the sexual education of a young
Frenchman. Jean-Claude radiated warmth. Mary and Alice, seemed just
as sex starved as in the Janey's April, but that did not ruin the
story, because neither of them was relating the story. I liked the
main character. The sex was not forced or encyclopedic.

Best Line: "I removed my penis and began the soft, rhythmic strokes
that had always brought me such pleasure."

(Yeeeees!! Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?)
(I think so, Brain, but do you really want to be an intern at the
White House? I mean think about it. Long hours, private meetings
with the president, hard work, private meetings with the president,
wearing berets, private meetings with the president.)
(Hmmmm, you may have a point there, Pinky. If there's one thing I
 can't stand its a wearing a beret.)

Rating

I give this story a 8.5 on a scale of 10.

Behind The Curtain by Ann Douglas

F/F

Length: 16,000 words

Summary

Annette gets a promotion and some time off. The only thing she can
think about is hot, lesbian sex. She gets it, but from a woman she
never thought about getting it from.

Commentary

This was a good story. Most of the sex scenes were well placed with
appropriate lengths, but there was one that seemed a little too long.
It really could have been a story unto itself, but maybe I am missing
the point, because it did reveal certain facts about Annette's past.

The descriptions, narration, characters, etc. were all well done.
The dilemma did not really enter the story until towards the end. I
prefer it to be introduced a little earlier, but it was well handled.

Rating

I give this story a 7 on a scale of 10.

Cannon Song by Miles Naismith

M/F

Length: 5,000 words

Summary

In the Spring of 1969 three couples decide to blindly swap partners
and see what happens.

Commentary

Wow. That was good, damn good. There was definitely tension in this
story. There are six characters in the story, but I only felt like I
knew three of them when I was done reading it. (That is just an
observation not a criticism.)

The story seemed real enough. Nothing in it felt forced. It was
both arousing and touching.

Rating

I give this story a 10 on a scale of 10.

Becky Cried by Poison Ivan

M/F, Exhib

Length: 5,000 words

Summary

Voyeurism and exhibitionism.

Commentary

This was an excellent story. Ivan did not tell us too much, or too
little. The descriptions were marvelous. The tension was there.

The story was very well written. The author did a great job of
leaving details for the reader to fill in with his/her own
imagination. It was arousing, but it also had a sensitive side to
it.

Rating

I give this story a 10 on a scale of 10.

A D&S Fairy Tale

M/F, F/F, D/S, Magic, Con?

Length: 31,400 words

Summary

Christiana is a mistress who in the past has treated some of her subs
rather badly. One man in particular, who loves her very much, was
almost driven to suicide. Adrian, a wizard, casts a spell on
Christiana. She has to make it up to those she has hurt by playing
the sub for them. Until she does so she will not be released from
his spell.

Commentary

This story was well done in certain ways. The sex was well placed,
and very arousing. I found the descriptions and the situations that
the main character got herself into to be its strengths. If you are
not turned on by dominance and submission then you might not want to
read this one.

There is some cross-dressing and quite a bit of bondage and
discipline. Most of the sex was consensual. The scenes where the
character is placed under a spell are kind of iffy. She knows what
she is doing, but she does not have complete control, but she does
seem to enjoy it. I am not sure if there is any non-consensual sex
in this story, but I am also not convinced that there is not any non-
consensual sex in this story.

The plot is rather simple and straight forward. The characters are
each distinct. In some ways I think this story was supposed to be
touching, but it did not touch me. The narration was a bit
mechanical and I could not feel the emotion, it seemed a bit
artificial. I still liked this story. Tigger did a good job of
mixing various elements and keeping the plot moving.

If you intend to read this story, I advise reading it in parts. It
is long. I found it much better to stop at the end of each episode
and take a break. I do not think I would have enjoyed it as much if
I had tried to read the whole thing in one sitting.

Rating

I give this story an 8 on a scale of 10.

One O'Clock Jump by Taria

M/F

Length: 4,200 words

Summary

A man and a woman meet, dance, and fuck; in that order.

Commentary

The rhythm of this story is amazing. The way Taria wrote it you can
just feel the beat jumping through it. It probably would have helped
if I had put on some appropriate music, but even without music
Taria's descriptions made this story shake, jump, and dance.

Strictly speaking this story is not about sex or love or even
pleasure. It is about a drum beating out a frenetic pace, a horn
section hypnotizing all that can hear its siren call, and a throng of
hot sweaty people moving with their hearts and praying that the night
will never end.

That was a poor job of trying to imitate Taria's style in this story,
but I could not help myself. I just finished reading it and the
music is still inside me. I can hear it now. The drums beating
(dum, dum, DUM, dum, dum), the horns wailing, and the people dancing.

This story was so much fun to read. I do not claim to be objective
usually, and this time I am not even going to attempt to be. I just
loved this story. Was it really a story? I think so. It had all
the necessary elements, but as long as I let its pace carry me I find
it extremely hard to be objective. You never cease to amaze me
Taria.

Rating

I give this story a 9.5 on a scale of 10.

Taxi Tales: Missed Connections by Delta

M/F

Length: 3,800 words

Summary

Dale does not care for guys who chew out their women in public. He
gives one of his fares a hard time for doing so. Later the woman
thanks him.

Commentary

I really like Delta's work at creating Dale. In some ways he seems a
bit caveman-ish, but there is also an integrity about him that is
very appealing. The story is simple, but well told. The sex is
simple, and honest.

There was not much to dislike about this story. It was a very good
story.

Rating

I give this story a 9 on a scale of 10.
