It is intended as a companion piece/rebuttal/adjunct to "Celestial Reviews." As my tastes are somewhat more catholic (excuse the pun) than Celeste's, I will be reviewing and critiquing the unusual, the kinky, and the funky...and also giving attention to past-ignored efforts in the ASS arena: gay, lesbian and bi fiction. This review will be coming out at least once a month, more if I have the time. I can't in all faith guarantee reviews of stories sent to me for critique, so it's probably best not to send them. I can't guarantee prompt replies to email, either. My rating system is different than Celeste's. I use a straight grade, A++ to D-, sometimes splitting it. What I give high marks to are, in descending order of importance: originality, creativity, skillful use of the English language, and technical things like grammar and spelling. A poorly written dog can get a A+ because of its originality of conception, and a well-written chestnut like wife swapping can get a C simply because it's been done before. (Of course, my personal tastes figure in also. I don't review stories that bore me.) Below the rating is when the story appeared. I realize that stories may appear on different servers at different times, but hopefully the date will give a rough idea of where to look. Below the date is where the story appeared (ASS = alt.sex.stories; ASSM = alst.sex.stories.moderated; ASSG = alt.sex.stories.gay; ASSB = alt.sex.stories.bondage.) After that is the name of the author or poster. So, here are the stories for the week of May 5th. Superman as Superslave [A/C+] When posted: 5/5/97 Where posted: ASS Author: Anonymous (reposted by kisinkyle@AOL.com) This is one of the many superhero sex stories that have been appearing lately. There were two more in this batch, "Superman Caught!!!" and "Superman and Bonds." All three seem to have been written by the same author. Titillating reading for those both gay and straight who have wondered about Superman's hithero ignored sex life. In this story Lois Lane, tired of being spurned by Superman all these years, sets him up for a gay gangbang with Lex Luthor. Apparantly she finds Lex's sexy bald pate a bigger turn-on than the Man of Steel's tight unitards. Anyway, Lex renders our hero powerless by forcing him to eat a mixture of red and green kryptonite, then forces him to give blowjobs to at least 200 horny men of various ethnic groups (a clever touch, considering Metropolis is a fill-in for NYC.) I won't spoil the rest, but things seem pretty hopeless for Clark Kent's alter-ego. While this story deserves an A for sheer audacity, the author could benefit from a basic creative writing class detailing the correct uses of POV, exposition, dialogue and paragraph construction...so be forewarned, Neil Gaiman it ain't. (reposted by THC Adult Text Archive) Here is a very rare beast, a story written from a female POV in which an older woman goes on the stalk for a younger man (a blonde stud who works in her neighborhood gas station.) The couple have hot sex in her van as it's waiting for its lube job (!) and afterward embark on an affair. There are too few stories like this. I myself often read posts on ASSG to get my female predatory instincts sated. (Change the narrator's sex and it works great as a gay story, too.) A few more original touches would have gotten it an A+. I've Got Huge Tits! Fortunately, he's saved by his true love Aerial, who breaks the spell by letting him take her virginity...or rather she shoves it at him. A raunchy romp that also works as an amusing pastiche of sword and sorcery fantasy. I'm a sucker for erotica that utilizes fantasy elements. The genres are more alike than you know. Not to give away the twist ending, but I'd think most men would find watching nude women wrestling in jello more arousing than being coated in it themselves. I would have liked more intelligence and originality put into the writing style, but then I'm a hard critic when it comes to fantasy. I think most readers, male and female, should find this story very yummy. You Bet! [B] When posted: 4/20/97 Where posted: ASSG Author: ?? A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old boy make a football bet with each other; the loser has to give the winner blowjobs for a month. Of course, the narrator loses, but gains various sexual experiences which include a small taste of D/s, which he finds very enjoyable. The author states "This story is about pubescent boys playing sexual games with each in a search for their personal identities, about the kinds of positioning for social dominance that boys engage in, about excitement, about sports, and about a lot of things. It's not about pain or rape." and it's true. This story did have a rather sweet, nostalgic tone which less enlightened and more reactionary folks would consider at odds with its subject matter. But I could easily imagine real kids thinking and acting like this. The author has requested feedback on this story, but apparantly has used one of those anonymous emailer thingies. Guess the only way to reply is to look up the original post and pop off a note directly from the browser. Just two nameless people, their basic gear, and their physical sensations. "It's Her Turn Now" and "At Long Long Last" deal with the man as the sub, the others with a woman. These stories are an excellent read, especially for women who want something harder than, say, Anne Rice's "Sleeping Beauty Books" but aren't up to the pain and misogyny that often manifests itself in fiction of this type (as in Steven S. Davis's work.) A four-part story was posted also, "Conquering Texas" but I haven't read it yet. Whoever they are, this person can WRITE. My fave of the five? "Photo."
