The story is a serious, high fantasy retelling of the Ring of the Niebelung; that is, the opera where fat ladies with long braids are screaming their heads off. Gods are murdered, blood-prices paid, a treasure tempts, and a man becomes a dragon and is slain by his brother, Sigmund the prince. Sigmund then claims as his reward the beautiful valkyrie Brunhilde, who gives him a blow job. The tone of this was so poetic and elegant it's hard to make fun of it, but, like the opera, it was a yawn-inducer in its early sections, as the erotic action didn't come until halfway through the story. This isn't to say it was badly written; quite the contrary. I liked the skill at work here. But ultimately the same rules that govern any sort of good fiction also govern erotic myths: namely, don't bury us in dusty background when we want to get to the wham-bams. One of them is the English boarding school story. Upper crust boys and girls were sent to these places from ages 6 to 16, where, in the words of the author, they are "subjected to the infantilisation that comes from a regime in which everything is either compulsory or forbidden, where permission has to be sought for almost any activity and where a rigorous uniform code suppresses any individuality. Whilst [students] could have written an entire book on autoeroticism, none was comfortable with the opposite sex." And of course, there are plenty of canings and strappings administered by matrons and headmasters. Two teenage girls explore the woods around their school and find a small shack that is occupied by two boys from a neighboring boarding school. The four agree to share the place as a private hideout of sorts and call themselves the Live Novelists Club (a spoof on the Dead Poets society, I guess.) One day the boys brew some homemade beer there, and the girls get sick on it and are caught by their headmistress. Faced with expulsion or a strapping from their dads, they choose the strapping. Later they complain to the boys, and the story ends with the girls playfully inflicting the same punishment on them, in the rising passion of sexual awakening. The English setting and attitudes made this story very good and perhaps a classic of its type. I liked the fact the girls acted like normal, awkward teenagers and didn't immediately glom onto anyone's cocks, like the smartass protag of "Virgin Mary Maguire" that I reviewed two weeks ago. But there were also enough fetishy touches in here for the most jaded spankophile, and the story had an almost...gentle...sense of humor as well. Veddy British. When I had done reading it, I felt cheered, and in the mood for a Monty Python marathon. Dominatrix Found in Amber! An astounding prehistoric find has been made: a black leather-clad dominatrix, frozen in mid-pounce, sealed inside a block of amber. This author has obviously intended to spoof tabloid headlines and contemporary kink culture, and he or she sets some tongue-in-cheek, well-written scenes in a museum, at a kinky new year bash (with insipid comments from the partygoers and TV hosts) and in Michael Jackson's house after the boy-child singer has purchased the petrified domina, apparently intending to mate her to an obese clone of Elvis. The story ends as the dominatrix is about to be freed, and it appears more chapters are coming. Overall, silly but very readable; should be fun for those who like spoofs. Mike goes to the shore to watch the gulls and plovers from the cliff, but trains his binoculars instead on a nude female sunbather. He starts to masturbate. His friend isn't too happy about it when she finds out, and challenges his arousal by doffing her own clothes and putting a finger up her pussy. They have sex, and later it transpires the two young friends are no longer friends, but lovers. This story was an attempt to tell a story with sex in it, rather than a sexual fantasy designed to get you horny. For the record, *stories* are lot harder to write than *fantasies* because of the need for descriptive detail, a plot, characterization, story logic, linear motion, etc. This author is clearly heading down the right path. The writing and dialogue are technically good, so all that is needed now is more attention paid to detail. For example, in the story's beginning, I didn't quite know who Jenny was...a nosy neighbor? The narrator's sister? A girlfriend? It would be nice to know the character's ages, too, as I was picturing a middle-aged birdwatcher at first. I also question that two young friends would start masturbating in front of each other so quickly, and that a girl can come within five seconds of such masturbation. But the story was enjoyable, and I could imagine most of it happening to real people in the real world. The Awakening [A] When posted: 10/24/97 Where posted: ASSG Author: Robert B. The friend is a feisty sort who challenges him to a wrestling match, and the narrator soon eggs on to the fact his friend is feeling him up! Annoyed, he tries to dismiss it from his mind, but soon decides he likes it very much, and when wifey is busy with the kids or visiting her mother, the two men fall in love and embark upon an affair. What made this story interesting was the lucid, insightful tone of the narrator, especially when dealing with attraction and emotion. It's not often you here from an average Joe about an affair like this. As the narrator is black and his friend white the story also gets a thumbs-up for its positive depiction of racial relations, which is straightforward without being exploitive...that is, acknowledging racial differences without succumbing to stereotypes. Batgirl vs. The Crime School for Girls, Part 5 [A+] When posted: 10/12/97 Where posted: ASS, ASSM Author: S. It's an interesting contrast with the Sneakly and Watchman stories, which focused on Batgirl. Though many people think that the Batman movies have declined in quality since the first one, they still remain interesting psychological studies of America's favorite crimefighter and his foes. In "Batman Forever" Bruce Wayne visits a sexy psychoanalyst in the hopes of freeing himself from disturbing dreams, while Edward Nigma (aka The Riddler) goes slowly bonkers; Two-Face, meanwhile, camps it up as a victim of multiple personality disorder. The author of this story has a field day with these neurosises, speculating on the kink that occurs when explicit sex is added to the mix. Most of it involves the women in the story getting very turned on by acting like, and being treated like, randy slutty whores. Though a little disturbing, it fits in well with the overall dark, gothic tone of the movie. For example, after a hard night of crimefighting Batman often goes looking for some prostitutes to have rough sex with; he can't abide the thought of loving sex with a normal, healthy woman at this time. Violence begats violence, even when it's done to protect the innocent. In the story Dr. Chase, who has the hots for Batman, foolishly thinks she's the woman for him because of her own lusts for domination and victimhood. When finally does have a sexual encounter with Batman, she realizes she's made an awful mistake as she tied to a desk and forcibly sodomized. In sum, though the story deals with raw depictions of rape, near-rape, and mind controlled rape, it's well worth the read for the peek it gives at the dark secrets of Batman's sex life, and I am looking forward to future installments.
