A bed in the corner of a small room. On top of it, above the covers, was a long, thin body laying on its belly, a large grey t-shirt covering it's top half. A female. This female's well developed hips defied the shirt, showing its striped green-and-white panties proudly. The panties were cotton and very soft, and after a nights wear, had lost much of their elasticity. They bunched up in folds about the crotch and showed much of this creature's sensitive, pubescent skin. Down from the panties extended two naked legs at an angle suggesting mild heat discomfort. Suddenly, a high tinny ringing. She watched the phone scream and wail and finally go silent. Dank satisfaction. Her back ached. She vaguely considered changing her position. A glance at the clock; her eyebrows raised and the squirrely survivor in her suggested she stop moping and get up. "Shut the fuck up" she thought, grinning. She contemplated the idea of never getting back up. She rolled onto her side and once again tuned out, listening to her own breathing, finding it hypnotic. "heeeeeeeeh... haaaaaaaaaah. heeeeeeeh... haaaaaaaaaaaah" Her cell phone rang again, breaking her trance. Looking at the phone annoyed, she let it ring out of spite for what is was inevitably going to make her do. "Eh..." She murmured begrudgingly, answering it. It was Terry; her boyfriend had just dumped her. She told Terry she'd be right over. Click. "Strange" the girl thought; not two hours ago she herself had broken up with her own love interest. She'd done the dumping though. She sat up, looking around at nothing in particular. Nodding, she took a deep breath, and got out of bed. Meet Nancy. A precocious young girl in the seventh grade. Eight teachers, three parents, and zero friends, sans Terry of course. Known more commonly as "Nancy the Ice Queen", she was famous for her inability to show any affection; a reputation derived from her long history of failed relationships. One boy after the other stepped up to the plate, and each one struck out. Most didn't make to a second date, one didn't make it an hour before being given the ol' heave-ho. This had spawned the rumor that she wasn't really into guys. A self fulfilling prophecy, it would seem, considering her last breakup was with a one "Chastity White". But that didn't matter now, Terry needed her. "Mom, can you drive me over to Terry's?" Nancy shouted down the stairs. "Sure, I need to run some errands anyway" Her mother shouted back up. Nancy got her stuff and walked out the front door with her mom. "So, you're going to see Terry, huh? You haven't gone over there in a while" It was true. Nancy and Terry had been drifting apart recently for a variety reasons, the principle of which being that Nancy was in jr high now, leaving Terry all by herself, still in the fifth grade. Nancy opened the car door, "Yeah, she just got broken up with. First boyfriend actually" Her mother shook her head, "Poor thing, she's a very sensitive child, I bet she took it hard". "Sounded like it, over the phone I mean" Nancy said distractedly. "Hey, wait a minute, didn't you have your first breakup when you were in fifth grade?" Nancy's mother questioned. "Yeah." This was actually the thing distracting her. Nancy had suddenly remembered that she had met Terry just a week after her own first breakup. "That would've been just around two years ago..." Nancy mused silently, "This time of the year must be bad for relationships". Her mind reverted into itself, gathering information about their first meeting. The colors, the sounds, the feel of the sun on her back swarmed together into dynamic frames, stretched like canvas over the growing scaffold of events, time undulating as her thoughts darted and scanned this mental structure rising in front of her. Reality dimmed and Nancy opened her second set of eyes, seeing children swarm around her... She had been walking around the school yard thinking intensely about her recent breakup. She had tried. She really had. But as the weeks went on, she increasingly realized she just didn't feel anything for him. He'd tried to kiss her many times, but each time she would shrink away and try to make small talk. She couldn't understand what was wrong herself. Why couldn't she just kiss him? Why did she find it hard to even hold hands with him? She arrived at the playground. Out of nowhere, two kids ran by her, almost into her. She sneered at them. Children. That's the problem with all the people here. They're all a bunch of immature children. As she turned to walk off in another direction, the two morons circled back for an encore performance. Except this time, one of them, a girl, tripped and fell. The girl began crying. Her friend ran up, "Are you ok?" he said. The girl replied in an angry sob, "No, I'm not 'ok', can't you see I'm hurt?!". "Hey, it's not my fault you fell" he replied indignantly. She flashed a hurt look and scooted away. After a moment, she said expectantly, "Well, aren't you going to DO something?" He got a pained look on his face and looked from side to side before sitting down next to her and giving her a half-assed hug. It was painful to watch. She shrugged him off. "Just go away" the girl said self destructively. He did. Nancy stared at this small child sobbing on the ground. She couldn't believe what she was thinking of doing, it went completely against her character. But she couldn't help but feel protective of this small creature sitting in front of her. Nancy went over and sat down next to her. The girl looked over at her quickly, then turned away and went back to her sobbing. Nancy paused for a moment and then, a little mechanically, picked the girl of up and set her in her lap. The child stopped sobbing and twisted around, looking up at Nancy, studying her shortly before straightening back out and staring ahead silently. After a moment, the child grabbed Nancy's hands and pulled on them. Nancy got the message and brought them around the small girl, hugging her close. The girl relaxed. Strangely, Nancy felt herself relax. They were quiet for a long while. Breaking the silence, Nancy asked in a slightly pedantic voice, "So, what's your name, little girl?" The child responded enthusiastically, "Teresa, but everyone calls me Terry"
