Read it to understand why the described events would be possible. She is twenty-few and she was about to finish her degree. She was a good student, but she had to start working full time because her mother became severely ill and she needs money for her treatment. She has been working as an intern in the company for 6 months, being payed a misery and working 12 hours on average, under a contract that stipulates that after these 6 months she will be hired as a full employee and have a normal wage. The company is all-male and during these 6 months she had to put up with sexist behaviour in the form of receiving denigrating comments for being a woman, having to work more than anyone else, doing other peoples' work as well as serving coffee and many other tasks that were not supposed to be hers, having to follow a stricter and more uncomfortable dress code than men, which have been modified arbitrarily and ad hoc by the boss, etc. Despite all these conditions, she has tried to be nice with everyone, partly because her need for the job after the 6 months, partly because of her personality, which is prone to relying on diplomacy and politeness. She has also worked very hard, partly because she is prone to it and partly because they have given her a lot of extra work. She is the kind of girl that if worked in a library and no one else needs something else, she would expend half an hour searching for a book you requested, and even though it seems there is no copy left, periodically apologizing for the delay with a sweet tone and politely asking to wait, and finally would find a copy that was lost somewhere. She has been living on the hope that even though the situation is denigrating and she suffers a lot, if she demonstrates her boss and colleagues that she is up to the task and she is nice as a person and a hard-worker as a colleague, they will eventually like and respect her, and things will improve. However, the boss has a hidden plan. After taking advantage of her hard work for these 6 months, paying her such a misery, he is not interested in complying with the contract and paying her a real salary, since there are financial cuts in the company and the extra work is already done. Then, the two of them fake a random process in which kick-boxing, or something similar, is chosen as the sport for that weekend. Now the premise that she has to do everything in the same conditions as men plays completely against her, both regarding attire and level of violence. It will be easy for them to beat her severely, after waiving a very hard set of rules. And even if she is severely beaten, to a point where she ends up with long term or permanent injuries, they will not be liable for it because being during her work hours in a consensual and habitual company event it is interpreted, legally, as a work accident, and under her current exploitative contract as an intern, the company is not liable for these. And if there is still some legal hole, they may press her to sign a complete waiver of -work-related damages - before the game. Besides, the liability to hire her after 6 months contains exceptions such as if she is no longer able to perform her work properly, which applies with such severe injuries, and therefore the company does not have to hire her.
