X-Men - The Last Stand: The Last Days Of Peace Part 3
(no sex)
by Big Red Dope (bigreddope@hotmail.com)

Peter sat in the mansion's library reading a book as he waited
for his study partner to show up, but his mind was elsewhere and
he wasn't comprehending what he was looking at. Several days had
gone by since the incident with Bobby and Kitty in his room and
just as had been done when Marie left Logan and Ororo kept mum on
why Bobby left and told Peter and Kitty to do the same. And just
like had happened when Rogue left rumors began swirling as to why
Bobby left and Peter's name was often brought up in a negative
light.

"Hey Peter what's up?" Kitty asked joining him at the table.

"Not much, just doing some studying."

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Why have you been avoiding me?"

"What do you mean?"

"Outside of the Danger Room and stuff directly related to the
X-Men you haven't wanted to be seen with me."

"It's nothing personal it's just that the situation that
developed with Bobby and Marie and now you and Bobby has got a
lot of people talking and wild rumors are spreading some of which
are putting me in a negative light. Until all of this gets
situated or I figure out what to do I'm trying to stay away from
the whole thing as much as possible."

"Are you serious? Bobby is as much to blame for this whole mess
as I am."

"I know and if Bobby was here instead of you I'd be avoiding him.
I just want to keep my hands as clean of this whole thing as
possible."

"Hi Peter, sorry I'm late. I got stuck on the phone with my
parents," Jubilee greeted him before giving him a kiss on the
cheek and setting her bag down on the table.

"Wait a minute. Don't tell me you're dumping me for her," Kitty
said incredulously.

"We're just studying."

"Uh... Did I come at a bad time?" Jubilee asked.

"No, I just need a moment talk to Kitty."

"Okay, I'll be on one of the computers when you're done," Jubilee
said picking up her bag and leaving.

"Look Katherine the truth is you developed a rather unpleasant
reputation after Marie left and it only got worse after Bobby
left. You may not care about any of that, but like I said my name
is now getting dragged into this."

"You didn't just call me Katherine did you? Only my parents call
me that, but fine if that's the way you want to be I'll never
fucking talk to you again."

"What the hell are you getting angry at me for? None of this
would be happening if you hadn't showed up in my room in your
underwear with a porno in your hand let alone gone after Bobby
when everyone knew he and Marie were together."

"Whatever," Kitty huffed getting up and walking away. "Fucking
asshole."

Yuma, Arizona...

"You know it didn't need to take us four days to drive here,"
Emma said as she and Magneto entered the two-bed bedroom they
were going to share for the night. "We could have flown too for
that matter."

"Patience Ms. Frost, there's no need to rush things. After the
attack on Alcatraz the humans are more trigger-happy than ever
now that Charles is dead and his calming influence is gone. And
as you stated the X-Men are weak. We'll gather our forces and
prepare are ourselves and once the time is right we'll attack.
The X-Men will be no match for us and without them our most noble
government won't be able to stand against us."

"Okay? So what's the plan then? Why are we out in the middle of
the desert?"

"There's an abandoned mine outside of town that serves as a front
to a hidden maximum security prison for what the humans deem as
the world's most dangerous mutants. There's a man there that's
served me well in the past and would do so again. There we will
find others who will help us bring the last days of the X-Men.
Sleep tonight, it will be the last time you get to for a long
time."

Yuma, Arizona (in a different hotel)...

Mystique quickly paced back and forth in the trio's hotel room as
Rogue slept soundly on one of the beds and Bobby sat at her side.

"I can't believe she killed him... She fucked up everything..."
Mystique mumbled to no one in particular. "There's no way just me
and her can take on Magneto and his goons..."

"Would you shut up!" Bobby snarled. "You're the reason John is
dead!"

"Go to hell!" Mystique screamed leaping across the room kicking
Bobby in the head and knocking him to the floor. "You're the
reason John is dead! You followed Rogue here, you started shit
with John, and she had to save your ass!"

"Why don't you save us some trouble and let me kill you so you
can be with John and we can go home!" Bobby screamed getting back
to his feet.

"I'd like to see you try boy," Mystique sneered.

"Stop..." Rogue mumbled as she woke up and tried to sit up.

"How are you feeling Marie?" Bobby asked rushing to her side to
help her up and let her lean against him.

"I'm fine... but it was like I was reliving John's life while I
was sleeping. It's really unsettling having another person's
memories in addition to your own. I'm not saying some of the
things he did or the way he did them were right, but I know now
why John turned out the way he did and made some of the decisions
he made."

"Yeah, but he still had a choice to make and he chose to make
himself an outcast and live on the fringes of society."

"Don't say that Bobby. He wasn't lucky enough to have life you or
even I had. His mother was constantly abused by his father and
she always made excuses and went back to him. He came to view the
X-Men as having the same kind of relationship with humans. John
then began getting beat by his father after he accidentally
burned the carpet and his father found out he was a mutant.
Eventually he ran away from home and ended up at a Catholic
orphanage. As he got older he started to become a danger to the
other kids at the orphanage and he was sent to be schooled by the
X-Men."

"Don't you ever talk about him again like you know him," Mystique
sneered.

"Did John ever say anything to you about how he felt?" Rogue
asked Mystique.

"Felt about what?"

"You." There was silence for a moment then Rogue began again.
"I'm truly sorry for killing John and had I known then what I
know now then I would have found another way to end the fight."

"Out with it Rogue. What are you talking about?"

"Sometime when you and John were working on your plans he began
to have feelings for you. Even before that when you took the
needle instead of Magneto and he left you on the truck by
yourself John was shocked by his callousness towards you and
became concerned for safety. Again I'm extremely sorry and I
apologize for killing him."

Mystique thought for a moment then spoke. "You had to do what you
had to do. Perhaps if one of us had said something to the other
about our feelings then maybe John would still be alive. I'd be
careful if I were you two. When you're in the situations that
we're in with constantly battling each other or the authorities
or whoever then there's no room for relationships. They only
create problems."

"Wait a minute," Bobby said, "You mean you and John-"

"Get some sleep," Mystique interrupted. "We're leaving for the
prison in the morning and this might be the last time either of
you gets any sleep for awhile."

***

Mystique sat quietly at the table in the hotel room with the two
briefcases pertaining to the cure in front of her. She stared at
them not saying a word thinking about what Rogue said the night
before about John.

"She's awake," Bobby said getting her attention.

"Good morning Bobby," Rogue smiled sitting up and kissing him on
the check.

"Good morning to you too," Bobby said returning the smile. "I've
got some great news."

"Really? About what?"

"Mystique should tell you."

"What's going on?"

"You two are free to go. Take the cases and go home. I'll take
care of my problem myself. If I'm not successful in killing
Magneto then you know he's going to attack your school and the
X-Men can use all the help they can get."

"Uh... Thanks," Rogue said not sure what else to say. "Why did
you change your mind though?"

"Don't worry about it. Just go."

"But if you do find Magneto then he'll probably have a new
brotherhood with him by then. You won't stand a chance."

"I said go home," Mystique said definitively.

"Okay," Rogue said. She and Bobby packed their things in the car
and went back inside for the briefcases. Each picked one up and
as they started to get into the car Rogue stopped.

"Something wrong Marie?"

Marie just stood their for a few minutes not saying a word then
shoved the briefcase she was holding into the car and walked back
inside. Bobby did the same and quickly followed her.

"Why are you two still here?" Mystique asked still sitting at the
table.

"I'm not leaving yet. I'm going to help you kill Magneto."

Mystique turned and looked at Rogue with a surprised look on her
face and Bobby was equally shocked.

"What? You can't be serious! Even if the three of us went up
against Magneto and his goons we wouldn't stand a chance!"

"You can do whatever you want Bobby, but I'm staying with
Mystique."

"Why are you doing this?" Mystique asked.

"It's the least I can do for taking John's life even if it means
losing my own. The more I try to suppress his memories the more
vivid they become. And I truly realize not everything is black
and white."

"Is this what you really want to do Marie?" Bobby asked.

"Yes," she replied without hesitation.

"Then I'm coming too. We'll just send the briefcases to the
institute before hand."

"You don't have to do this Bobby."

"If you go then I go."

As two parties of mutants were heading to the same prison a
meeting was taking place at the Xavier Institute. In Charles
Xavier's old office that now served as the main office of the
school Logan and Ororo talked with the other members of the
active team; Colossus, Kitty, Angel, and the two newest members
Jubilee, and Siryn.

"With Bobby no longer part of the team things have reached a
level of uncertainty that none of us have seen here before. With
Bobby and Marie's departure and Kurt's disappearance we've been
forced to add new members to the active team before they were
ready," Logan said.

"Jubilee, Theresa though it is earlier than when we would have
liked in adding you to the team that doesn't mean we don't want
you here. You two were far and away closer to being ready than
anyone else here," Ororo added.

"Anyway, all we know at this point is that the cure is not
permanent. Both Mystique and Magneto have their powers back as do
any other mutants who were injected with the cure. Mystique and
Pyro have come up with a plan to kill Magneto using Marie. She
made a decision to help them and Bobby left to talk her out of
it. At some point you may have to fight one or both of them. If
you let any friendship you had with either of them get in the way
you could get yourself or any of us killed," Logan said.

"If they fail," Ororo began, "it is inevitable that Magneto will
make another attack believing that without Professor Xavier we
don't stand a chance. There's also the fact that the support and
number of militias and other anti-mutant groups is growing.
That's why Danger Room sessions will intensify and increase in
number. Now more than ever is not the time to get lax with our
preparedness."

"Logan you've got a phone call," a student said popping his head
into the office.

"We're in the middle of a meeting. Take a message."

"You should take this. It's Bobby."

"I bet Marie dumped him and now he wants to come home," Kitty
grinned.

"That's not cool," Peter said.

"Oh shut up."

"Everyone shut up," Logan said before picking up the phone on the
desk. "Hey Bobby what's up?"

"Hey Logan. The tracking device Forge made me worked great and I
found Marie."

"How is she?"

"She's fine considering what happened."

"What happened Bobby?"

"While Marie and I were talking after I found her Pyro decided he
wanted to fight and she kind of killed him. Took his memories,
his abilities, everything and she's playing with a lighter as we
speak."

"How is she?"

"Physically she's fine, but mentally she's still dealing with
having Pyro's memories in her head. To make a long story short
though this morning Mystique gave us the briefcases with
everything that was left on the cure and told us to leave. It
turns out that Mystique and Pyro had feelings for each other and
Marie feels guilty for killing him so she's not leaving until
Magneto is dead or she is. We're in Yuma, Arizona right now and
apparently there's a prison here that houses dangerous mutants.
There's some people there that Mystique says will help her. We
just sent the cases to you and we're on our way to the prison
now. Look Logan, I screwed up big time and Marie's willing to
give me a second chance so I'm going to stay with her until this
is finished. Then if we're still alive maybe we'll come back."

"Is this what you really want to do Bobby?"

"Yeah, it is. I owe Marie that much."

"It sounds like you've made up your mind so be careful and don't
let anything happen to Marie. Understand?"

"Yes."

"Good luck Let's hope our paths don't cross in battle." With that
Logan hung up the phone.

"What's going on?" Ororo asked.

"Things have changed just a bit. Marie killed Pyro to save Bobby
and now has his powers. However Pyro's death does not mean
they're coming back anytime soon. Marie is insistent on helping
Mystique kill Magneto and Bobby has decided not to leave her
side."

"Figures," Kitty smirked.

"Anyway," Logan growled giving Kitty a look, "They're in Yuma,
Arizona where---"

"Yuma Mutant State Prison is," Ororo finished with a
disconcerting look crossing her face.

"Yeah, and it houses two hundred of the world's most dangerous
mutants. Mystique believes she can get help there."

"And if she's going there to get help, then presumably Magneto
would as well. Best case scenario we have two factions of
criminals fighting each other and worse case we have them all
coming after us."

"So what's the plan?" Angel asked.

"We continue training in the Danger Room and hope the worst
doesn't happen. Let me make something perfectly clear that Bobby
couldn't quite grasp which is why he left. One day we may have to
face him or Marie in battle and we may have no choice but to kill
them. Again do not let your past relationships with them
interfere with your actions," Logan said.

"There is no reason to alarm everyone here so keep this between
us for the time being," Ororo added. "Meeting adjourned... for
now."

Kitty sat and watched from the chair she was in as Peter and
Jubilee talked as they got up to leave the office. She began
fuming and gave them the evil eye as they held hands and left the
office. Ororo noticed this and waited until everyone was gone
before saying something to Logan.

"We've got a problem," Ororo said.

"I know."

"A new one I mean."

"And what's that?"

"Look I have a very bad feeling about this whole
Bobby/Rogue/Mystique situation and now something about Kitty is
striking me the wrong way. I think she can be a bigger hazard to
us than either Jubilee or Theresa."

"Trust me I've heard all the same rumors and noticed all the same
things about her that you have, but even if we wanted to kick her
off the team we really have nobody else that we can even began to
think about using to replace her. That half-truth you told
Jubilee and Theresa was bad enough."

"I really didn't think it'd be a good idea to be blunt like you
and tell them we don't want you here, but we have no choice."

"Hey I need to borrow your video camera," Kitty asked phasing
herself into Olivia's room.

"What for?"

"I need it for a personal project I'm working on."

"What kind of project?"

"Don't worry about it."

Olivia sat for a moment and read Kitty's thoughts. "No way, I'm
not getting involved in your little plan. I don't want to be
around when you get caught."

"You're worried about getting caught? You weren't worried when I
let you watch. How do you think Rogue would feel if she knew you
watched me and Bobby have sex?"

"You're a bitch," the petite brunette said getting up to retrieve
her camera.

"Once you get past thinking like that, you'll learn to enjoy life
and it's spoils like I have," Kitty replied taking the camera.
She started to walk towards the door but stopped and turned
around.

"What else do you want?"

"Nothing," Kitty replied kissing Olivia square on the lips before
winking at her and turning to leave once again. "I'll bring this
back when I'm done with it." With that she phased through the
door and disappeared into the hall.

"Damn it girl," Olivia mumbled as she sat down at her computer
and logged into her blog. "You know she's trouble."

Kitty smiled as she pulled her head back into the hallway and
materialized. Everyone at the institute would soon be learning
not to mess with her.
