Church, family, and farm were the fabric of life in Salem Valley, and tradition was the thread that bound it all together. It was tradition that dictated that girls were married off around the age of fourteen, often to men much older than their young brides. It was tradition that said that fathers were entitled to take their pleasure with their daughters' bodies, short of taking their virginity. It was tradition that taught that young unmarried men find release however they could, whether with their sisters, little girls, older women, farm animals, or even each other.
