Daddy? Where are you, Daddy?" "Abby. Abby, it's Uncle George." "Who are you? Where am I? Uncle George? Oh, Daddy died and you're taking care of me. Can we get naked and do kissy-face?" "Abby, it's the middle of the night and tomorrow is a school day. We can't spend a long time doing kissy-face or you'll be too sleepy to get up in the morning." "I'm naked. Kiss me and rub my butt!" "OK, but just a little." She's not the little love monster the other girls are but she does like kissy-face. Let's try a little tongue suck on her - and she wants to try it also. Let's see about that pretty little butt. Gentle rubs and she sucks my tongue harder. Hard squeezes and she humps my stomach. It appears little girls without genetic speedups respond just like the others. Now a back rub - and she's asleep again. Naked was her choice so I'll leave her that way - the better to enjoy all this beautiful little girl skin. Tomorrow, I'll have to ask whether she did things other than kissy-face. Maybe she'll make the night without another bad dream... Wednesday, 2 September 2015 05:20 Brrt! Brrt! Brrt! Brrt! "Daddy, turn off the alarm - it's too early to get up!" "The alarm is off but you girls all need to be out of bed before the tickle monster finds you." "OK, Daddy. We're getting up. I gotta pee before I get tickled." ""Me, too."" "Where am I?" "Good morning, Abby. Do you remember who I am?" "Mr. Wilson, but you said I could call you Uncle George. We did kissy-face after I had a bad dream - and I feel so safe with you." Feels safe with me? Didn't Rose say something about the girls 'feeling safe' with me? Maybe Abby has an alien connection we don't know about? After school today we'll see if she knows any of her ancestry. Speaking of ancestry, we haven't taken time to ask what Rose knows of hers. "Poppy, can we have pancakes?" "I love pancakes, Uncle George!" Is this another family connection or just a kid who loves pancakes? The "what's your ancestry" priority just got a little higher. "Sorry, Abby. Our pregnant girls must eat a proper balance of foods to care for their babies - pancakes are only allowed occasionally. Because they had pancakes yesterday, they won't get them again today." "But I'm not pregnant!" "No, you're not. Would it be fair to the others for you to have a big plate of pancakes when they can't have any?" "No, Uncle George. That would be mean. What can they have today?" "Oatmeal - maybe with raisins and cranberries - or eggs with turkey bacon or a PB&J sandwich with a bowl of fruit. We have canned apples, mandarin oranges, pineapple..." "PB&J with fruit, Papa!" """Me, too!""" "Daddy, Abby just did simultaneous speaking with us! She's family!" "Yes, Honey, she certainly appears to be. Abby, do you know the names of your grandparents and great-grandparents?" "I have a list in my bag - and I'm named for my great-grandmother, Abigail Williams Johnson." "Poppy, I have some Johnson ancestors. Is Abby's great-grandmother one of them?" "You girls can do some family research today after school. Remember that Molly must stop by Dr. Chamber's office, then we can come back here and you can compare Abby's list to our family tree." "Why not now, Daddy?" "Because you need to finish breakfast, brush your teeth, and get dressed so we won't be late for school." """"OK."""" They were all together on that. Guess they're excited about another family member. When we have her family tree, I'll ask Willa to research Abby in the records of girls with genetic speedups. Did she get lost in the shuffle or did her father decide to leave the project after Abby had the speedups - or maybe she's family but without the speedups? Nice thing about an electric razor - you can shave while deep in thought and not draw blood. Time to get them out the door. "Any homework to turn in today?" "No, Daddy. You forgot to give us any." "I didn't forget, Molly. I'm aware of how tired you girls were the first day of school so I'll let all the students get accustomed to the longer, busier day before I assign homework again." "You're taking care of the others, too, aren't you, Papa?" "Yes little Thinker. Anything you girls need to do when you get to class?" "Check the hydroponic tanks, Poppy - just in case the other girls didn't." "Very good, Sweetie. Ms. Williams will come around 11 to continue the hydroponics lessons. Abby, do you want to tell the others that you're staying with us and why? It's your choice, as other kids are also spending time with new friends from school." "If anyone asks about us coming in together, I'll just say that I spent the night with Molly, Sarah, and Rose." +.She's taking care of 'family private', Poppy. +/You can do this too?! +Don't 'yell', Abby. We can all do this - with family and with most people who aren't family. Back to words for you Abby. Until we teach you to 'whisper', don't use mind links when we're around other people. +/Yes, Uncle George. Is this better? +Yes, but still not a 'whisper'. Remember, at school I'm Mr. Wilson. +/Yes, Mr. Wilson. +Much better, Abby. Ding! Ding! "Good morning, class." "Good morning, Mr. Wilson." "LeiLyn, can you tell us what you and the other girls have done in your research on a possible ay to clean the air?" "Yes, Mr. Wilson. I told my Daddy what we wanted to do and asked him how much air we would have to clean. He used a computer to come up with some really big numbers. Then I asked him how much ash and stuff was in that much air and if there was a place big enough to store all of it. He said that we could use some of the desert areas of the world as the dump site because nothing could grow there. We found out how much the escape pod that Beth lifted weighed and asked Beth if she could lift more than one of them. She said only one now but that her powers are getting stronger so she could move more later. That probably means that the powers the rest of us have will get stronger as we get older, so although we may not be able to move much now we can expect to move more next year and the year after. Linda talked with Dr. Zhing about what kind of material would work for an 'ash bag' and he said something like the cloth that sails are made of might work. She found three kinds of sailcloth in the warehouse and we have pieces that we can test Dr. Zhing said we could use a mix of flour and sand and have a fan blow it on the cloth. If the air goes through but the sand and four are stopped, the cloth would probably work. Dr. Zhing and my Daddy will help us set up the tests on Saturday so Monday we can tell you if we've found the right cloth." "Wow! You do long explanations like Mr. Wilson!" "Thank you for good research and a very good report, LeiLyn and crew." "Mr. Wilson, there weren't any projects this complicated in the other schools I attended. Did the teachers not think we were smart enough to do them?" "Emily, the teachers you had before had no idea how smart, capable, and responsible you girls are. In a typical US school, only an Advanced Placement class in high school would even have been considered for a project this complex." "We really are smarter than other kids?" "Yes, Martha. You girls are much smarter than any other generation of kids in history." Knock. Knock. "Linda, would you get the door?" "Hi. Mommy." "Good morning, class. Ready for your next lesson on hydroponics?" "Yes, Ms. Williams." "Did anyone check the tanks this morning?" "The tanks were actually checked several times today and yesterday, Ms. Williams. I think these kids want some fresh veggies and are making sure that everything is OK each day." "That's good to know, Colonel. The fact that they're checking the tanks on the days I'm not here to remind them tells ma that we have some very responsible people." "That we do. Class, give Ms. Williams your full attention." They are paying attention and asking good questions. My little Thinker even asked about what's needed to get a tank ready between crops. That's a very appropriate nickname - she does think deep and far ahead... "Colonel, do you have time for music today?" "As much time as you would like. If you think it will be less than an hour, now would be a good time. If you think you may need longer, we'll go to lunch first." "I have two songs and some technical bits on reading music, so after lunch might be better." "Class, we'll go to lunch now and have music when we come back." Abby is holding my hand? From the evil grin on her face, I think she feels more than 'safe'. +Abby. I know what you're thinking. Turn off that evil grin before everyone else in the cafeteria knows also. +/Yes, Uncle George. +That is very close to a 'whisper'. Only the girls that are family noticed you talking. +/Sheila and Linda are family? +Yes, distant cousins to my girls. We'll explore your ancestry later today. Back to words. +/OK. "Mr. Wilson? I see Scarborough Fair Chicken on the menu but I've never heard of it." "Linda, I think your mother can tell you." "Mommy?" "There's a song about 'Scarborough Fair' and it has the words 'parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme' in the refrain. Since those are the names of some herbs and spices, I'll guess that one of our chefs is using that mix on the chicken." "You're right, Ms. Williams. That's how Aunt Sue fixes it - and it's yummy!" "Thank you, Sarah. I think I'll have that for lunch." "Ms. Williams, can you teach us the 'Scarborough Fair' song?" "I don't have paper copies of the words or music, Martha." "Not a problem, Ms. Williams. Rose thought there might be interest in that song so she asked if she and Sarah could come back early to look up the words and write them on the white board." "Is she reading the other girls' minds?" "Among girls in the same family - yes. But Rose is a deep thinker and probably just noticed their interest from the general conversation. Raise your hand if you either got the chicken or sampled the chicken someone else had. That's 10 of 12 kids. I don't think you have to be a mind reader to see how much interest there was in the name of the chicken dish." "You're right, Colonel. If I had been watching all the girls, I would have seen that also." +:Thank you, Papa. They are having fun with the song. Some of them have never done rounds before, so "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" is new to them. I'll get them more into the 3 R's next week, although they did one of them for homework - "Riting" what they learned about the bells - and other noise makers. I'll read a couple of those to the class tomorrow. "Bye, Ms. Williams. I had fun today!" Responses like that will keep Melody coming back. Music is a good thing to include, especially when it can bring in usually unrelated topics such as cooking. Let's see what they can do with these grade 4 math worksheets. Another or the R's - "Rithmetic". I'll have them work in pairs so Molly can help Beth if she needs it. "Class, I have some math worksheets that may be harder than anything you've done before. I want you to work in pairs so you can try different ways of solving the problems. The pairs are on the board here. When each pair finishes, they may pick a book to share and read aloud quietly to each other in the reading loft." Molly is having a hard time squeezing into the desk with Beth. Have the babies grown that much in the last few days? I see some furrowed brows, but not for long. Each pair of girls is working through the problems at a very good rate. They seem to get stronger with every challenge. That went even quicker than I had thought. I'll let them read 'til the end of the day. Reading aloud will be good for Beth and maybe a couple of the others and the partner in each of those pairs can provide gentle help to the weaker reader. Ding! Ding! "Is school over already?" "Yes, Beth. Class, please put your books back where they belong. You may leave a bookmark in your book and I'll allow you time for paired reading again tomorrow." "Can we see if I'm family now, Uncle George?" "Molly must see Dr. Chambers' before we leave this floor. We'll check family history when we're back in our quarters." "Hi, Dr. Chambers." "Hi, Molly. George, do you think Abby will get along with your other girls?" "Better than 'get along', Willa - she appears to be family." "What?" "She's able to do mental communication and has done simultaneous speaking with the others at least twice." "But I have no record of her." "We'll be checking family history when we get back to quarters. I'll let you know what her lineage is so you can do more focused research." "I'm ready for the 'freezer thing', Dr. Chambers." "OK, Molly. Your babies are all in good position but growing much, much faster than I anticipated. George, how long does it take you to set up for a remote student?" "About a day." "Then you should start setting things up. If things continue at this rate, I'll want to do Molly's C-section on Monday." "WHAT?" "I told you we had limited experience with pregnant six year olds. Her babies have experienced the equivalent of a month's accelerated development in the past week. I think her body is very close to its stretch limit." "Monday? I thought you said a couple of weeks!" "Molly's C-section is Monday? Why didn't you tell us, Papa?" "Rose, Sarah. We just found out. The babies are growing much, much faster than expected so Molly's body is almost at its stretch limit. There's no almost no room for the babies. Remember that Dr. Chambers wanted to see Molly every day so she would know when to schedule the C-section." """What can we do for Molly?""" "You can watch her and be aware of any changes that don't seem good. Especially if she's more tired than usual or she doesn't want to eat or she thinks she may throw up." """We'll watch her.""" "I think you're right, George. If Abby is talking with Rose and Sarah she's probably related." "Can we go check now, Uncle George?" "Yes, Abby, we can go now." +And you can wipe that evil grin off your face, at last until we're back in our quarters. +/Yes, Uncle George. "Molly, do you feel OK to run the family tree program?" "Yes, Daddy." "While you girls do that, I'll arrange for the TV setup for a remote student." "Abby, do you know the names of your parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents?" "It's all on this list, Molly." "Father Edward White, mother Melissa Johnson. His parents were Sam white and Marie Wilson. Her parents were Walter Johnson and Susan Wallace. Sarah, don't you have Johnson ancestors?" "Yes, they're the medical side - that's my connection to Alex and Carlotta." "Let me look for Marie Wilson. Her father is Andrew Jackson Wilson. He's Sarah's grandfather." "So I am family?" "Yes, Abby. But there may be more than one connection. Your mother is a Johnson." "She was a Johnson. She died when I was born. They thought I was dead too, but I wasn't." "Let me look for Melissa Johnson. Her parents were Walter Johnson and Susan Wallace. Walter Johnson's parents were Alec Johnson and Abigail Williams. Abby, you and Sarah have the same Great-grandfather. The two of you are cousins in two lines. That means you probably have communications and mind control skills plus some medical skill." "I could control someone like you did that soldier? How do I do that?" "Daddy, can you explain to Abby?" "Abby, people with Wilson ancestry inherit communications and mind control skills. People with Johnson ancestry inherit medical skills. Since you have ancestors in both families, you probably have skills from both sides." "My Daddy never told me about this." "He may not have known about his ancestry - not everyone does. He have been so upset by your mother's death that he didn't want you to know. Because you almost died, someone may have recorded that you didn't survive and thus you weren't included in the Repopulate Project roster." "Do you always do long explanations, Uncle George?" "Whenever I think they're appropriate." "I love being part of this family!" "We love having you, Abby." +Here's my mind hug. +.Here's my mind hug. +:Here's my mind hug. "How do they do that?" "You can probably learn to do a mind hug." "Really?" "Yes." "Can you do mind hugs too, Uncle George?" """He taught us.""" "I must be in the best family ever!" "That's what Molly, Sarah, and Rose keep telling me." "Can you make a baby in me too, Uncle George?" "First I need to give Dr. Chambers a copy of your family tree so she can see if you were included in the Repopulate Project and whether you've had the genetic changes the other girls have had. If you haven't had those changes, you probably won't get pregnant until you're 13 or 14. If you haven't had them and you want to go through that treatment, Dr. Chambers can explain the things that will happen in your body and the problems that you might experience because you're almost nine - almost all of the other girls had those treatments before they were two years old." "You did a long explanation again!" "My smart girls seem to like them." "I love them! When can I start the treatments?" "I emailed your family tree to Dr. Chambers. She'll check the records and see if you may have had the treatments when you were younger. You can't just look at a girl and determine whether she's had the genetic speedups. If Dr. Chambers doesn't find you in the Repopulate Project records, she'll check your DNA to see if you've had the speedups." "Can we check DNA now? Does it hurt very much?" "Checking the records is faster than testing DNA. DNA testing doesn't hurt at all. Getting the cell sample might - most of the time they just rub a swab on the inside of your cheek to get enough cells for testing, but sometimes they need to draw some blood from your arm." "Like getting a flu shot?" "No worse than that. Maybe not that bad - Rose said it didn't hurt as much as she thought it would when Dr. Chambers drew some blood to check whether she was pregnant." "But you were holding my hand then, Papa. That keeps it from being scary and hurting." "Will you hold my hand, Uncle George?" "If the testing gets that far. I suggest we wait for Dr. Chambers to check the records and tell us what she finds." "OK." Beep! Beep! "Is that your email, Daddy?" "Yes, Honey. It might be the reply from Dr. Chambers." 'George, Melissa Johnson White died during chidbirth and her baby is listed as girl, stillborn.' I should call Willa - the girl we know as Abby appears to be very much alive. Ring! Ring! "Willa Chambers." "Hi, Willa. This is George. Abby told me they thought she was dead at birth but she looks very much alive to me. Do you have DNA records for any of her ancestors? Can DNA changes tell whether a girl has the genetic speedups?" "An autopsy was performed on her mother, so there may still be things that could be used for DNA testing. I can still get a sample from her father's autopsy so we can definitely check that side. Yes, I can verify the changes from a girl's DNA. Is Abby willing to give a sample?" "I told her that the cheek swab doesn't hurt at all and that a blood sample, if needed, was no worse than a flu shot. That's when Rose said it didn't hurt much when she was holding my hand, so Abby asked if I would hold her hand." "I'll need a blood sample for the mtDNA test, so bring Abby and your hand to my office at your convenience." "Just a minute. Abby, do you want your DNA checked to see whether you've had the genetic speedups the other girls have?" "YES! Can we do it now?" "I think you heard her." "I did. Bring her to the office and I'll get both a cheek swab and a blood sample to do all the testing." "We'll be there in 10 minutes. Girls, I'm taking Abby to Dr. Chambers' office so she can test Abby's DNA to verify who she is. The records show that when her mother died, the baby didn't survive. I think there might be an error in the records as Abby looks alive to me." "You're silly, Papa. We now she's alive." "Yes, but we don't know for certain whether she's the child of Ed White and Melissa Johnson. The DNA tests can verify that. If the baby didn't survive, Abby's father might have grabbed some random kid out of a nursery and told people she was his daughter." """But she feels like family!""" "I know, but she could have been from some other family that's related to us." "Really, Uncle George? I might have been kidnapped as a baby?" "What we know for certain is that you are a child of Wilson descent because of the mind communication and the simultaneous speaking. But that doesn't tell us exactly who your Wilson ancestors are. There are a lot of Wilsons - we have four girls here named Molly Wilson and they're all related but have different parents. We have girls who aren't named Wilson but are related, such as Sheila and Linda. I want to know for certain which Wilson line you're part of. If you're not the child of Ed White and Melissa Johnson, someone is looking for a very special little girl with blue eyes and we want to let them know that we've found her." "You love me so much you want be sure I'm with the right parents. This really is the best family in the world!" "Come with me to Dr. Chambers' office and she'll start the DNA identification process. Molly, Sarah, Rose: I know you want to come but remember that DNA testing takes a while - we probably won't get any results for several days." """We wanna go anyway!""" "As long as you stay in the front office. One exam room isn't big enough for the entire tribe." """OK.""" "Here already, George? I think Abby does want to know about her family and her body. Open your mouth, Abby. I'll do the swab first." "That didn't hurt." "No, that one doesn't hurt. Now the blood sample." "Hold my hand, Uncle George?" "Yes, Abby." "That didn't hurt much." "That's what Rose said. I think your Uncle George is very good at managing the hurt when things happen to other people. Do you have any medical ancestry, George?" "Yes, Willa. I have some Johnson ancestors a few generations back. We know that Alex and Carlotta Johnson have strong medical skills and I'm connected to that line." "How soon will you know, Dr. Chambers?" "I'll know about the speedups tomorrow. Verifying your connections to Ed White and Melissa Johnson will take longer." "If I don't have the speedups, can we do them tomorrow? I wanna start having Uncle George's babies too." "If you don't have the speedups, I'll need to do some further testing to determine whether it would be safe for you to start the treatment. You're almost nine and the oldest girl we've treated had just turned eight. It's possible that you will have to wait for your body's normal development before you can have a baby - that would probably be when you're 13 or 14." "If I can't get pregnant, could I still practice making a baby?" "If your Uncle George is willing, I see no harm in you 'practicing'." "Can we do it now, Uncle George?!" "Abby, we'll wait for the test results. Since the other girls are not getting to do those things because they're too tired from school, would it be fair for you to have unlimited 'practice'?" "You're right, Uncle George; that wouldn't be fair. But can we do it just once while we wait to find out?" "That might be possible." "She's definitely Wilson family, George. If it's possible for someone to be more caring than Molly, Abby is that someone." "Yes, Willa, she's very caring. I had some thoughts about the 'stillborn' report. First, the report may have been done in haste and the baby was resuscitated but the report was never updated. Second, did any girls of Abby's approximate age go missing from the Project in the year after her mother's death?" "I hadn't thought of a missing child, but I can run a search. Limit the search to the Durham area?" "No, check the US, Canada, and Mexico. Ed White's job involved some travel for conferences and he could have been almost anywhere." "OK. That search will take a couple of hours. I'll send you email of the results. If negative, just a quick note that no girls are missing. If any are missing, I'll send the details." "Thanks, Willa. Girls, back to quarters - unless you want to eat in the cafeteria tonight." """"Cafeteria!"""" "She's definitely family, George." "No question on that; the question is: 'Which part of the family?'." "Was supper good?" "Daddy, everything is good on tex-mex day." "Then back to quarters and all of you get ready for bed." +Daddy, is this Abby's night? +I said we'll wait until Dr. Chambers determines whether Abby has had the speedups. I don't want another surprise baby. +Me neither, Daddy. I'll tell Abby that she should wait because surprise babies can sometimes be a problem. +Thank you, Honey. You're taking care of Abby in the same way I try to take care of all of you. +.I told you Molly was a better caregiver than me. +Yes, Sarah, you did. +We're home. Back to words. Beep! Beep! "Email for you, Poppy." "Thank you, Sarah." "Is it from Dr. Chambers and about Abby?" "I'll tell you after I read it, silly girl." 'George. No reports of missing girls, but Molly's parents had a child on 7 October 2006. It was a home birth with a midwife who told them the child was stillborn and that she would take it to the funeral home if they wanted a formal burial. They wondered about the birth because the baby had been moving a couple of days before, but Lucy had such a difficult delivery they didn't investigate further. An infant corpse was delivered to the funeral home and they had the funeral. The midwife moved to Florida the next week, so she might have had a reason to leave town. The timing fits the White baby being stillborn and being replaced by Sarah's older sister. I need a DNA sample from Sarah to check whether my suspicions are correct. Bring her by my office on your way to school tomorrow and I can have the Abby <-> Sarah DNA comparison completed by the end of the day.' "Girls, we need to talk." "About me, Uncle George?" "Yes, Abby. Dr. Chambers needs a DNA sample from Sarah to help in determining who your parents are. We will go by her office on the way to school tomorrow and Dr. Chambers thinks she might have an answer by the end of the day." "Why me, Poppy?" "I'll let Dr. Chambers explain that tomorrow after school. Since you'll be up earlier in the morning to allow time for stopping at Dr. Chambers' office, bedtime will be earlier tonight." "As long as it's for family, Papa." "Get your jammies and brush your teeth, girls. I'll give hugs and backrubs to help you get to sleep." "Make a baby in me, Uncle George?" "I told you that we'll wait until Dr. Chambers determines whether you've had the speedups. We don't want a surprise baby." "Daddy's right, Abby. I have one surprise baby and we were all scared." "OK, Uncle George. I know you're taking care of me. But can I sleep with you?" "Other girls?" """Yes.""" "All of you to bed. I'll come by with backrubs. Abby, you'll be last - if you stay awake that long." "OK." All of them alseep and a little earlier than usual. The girls may learn some unpleasant things tomorrow. However, they will all be thrilled if Abby and Sarah are sisters. After losing her father so suddenly, I think Abby would be very pleased to discover an actual family member. We'll see what the day brings...
