Dead Men

Prologue

Zhong Jiang General Huang Jin Du lit a Marlboro with his favorite Harley Davidson Zippo as he leaned back against the glacis armor of his Leopard 2A6 tank staring out into the thick Pacific fog.

Behind him the well deck of the Ro-Ro “car ship” Rita Del Mar was a beehive of activity in these hours before they docked in Prince Rupert, BC.

The serried ranks of his Tanks, Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Armored Personnel Carriers, and Mobile Artillery almost disappeared under the sea of Greenish Brown, Grey, and Sky Blue PLA uniforms.  His hand picked troops scrambling to make their final adjustments before landfall. The “Rita” could haul over five thousand cars.  There was ample room for his mixed armor, air assault and special ops force even without the car and container ships shadowing.

General Du glanced at his bodyguard sitting cross-legged on the deck.  Shao Wei Qui Lim Kwok in her jungle camouflage and black beret, crooning softly as she gently oiled the QBU 88 sniper rifle that was her constant companion.

Lieutenant General Du’s Leopard was not authentic. Not really!  Not any more than the Archzarit or Puma Infantry Fighting Vehicles lined up behind. Just the most excellent copy possible, complete in every particular right down to its L55 gun.

Like Junior Lieutenant Kwok’s favorite rifle and the QDZ 95 bullpups carried by his assault troops, in fact every martial item on the Rita, they were products of the superlative engineers of NORINCO laboring in secret PLA factories far from prying eyes.

Kwok looked up to silently raise a questioning eyebrow.  The General studied his Breitling Navitimer saying:  “It begins soon, just now the sun touches their Eastern shore.

Kwok bent again to her task as he heard her mutter:  “…Many targets.”

The General felt some regret as he contemplated this opening phase.  His time as military attaché in Washington, DC when he discovered his love of Tex Mex at Bobby Flay’s restaurant in Georgetown was a joyful time made even better by sleeper agents left behind.

Du closed his eyes as he visualized the coming events…

…During the morning commute Shia Islamic terrorists in New York, Washington, and Atlanta would release A-234 nerve agent on subways and buses.  The A-234 nerve powder would disperse to exterminate far and wide then persist to create a dead zone that would decimate even those in NATO protective gear.

The terrorists, of course, thought the Iranian Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution supplied the Novichok agent.  Their ignorance of the poison’s true source would merely add to the “Fog of War.”

While this first attack was happening on the far coast, capturing the attention of morning news shows, phase two begins as “Ro-Ro” ships much like the “Rita Del Mar” filled not with small foreign cars but Chinese troops and tanks begin landings in Seattle, Portland, Vancouver and Anchorage.

The armored columns pour out of each ship to drive into the nearest metropolitan area shattering all resistance in lightning strikes then armored Divisions fan out along interstate highways as the dozens of specially modified massive ten thousand TEU container ships following disgorge their hidden troops and equipment at each seaport using the docks own cranes and equipment to unload.

Phase three begins immediately after with harassing attacks by the PLAN Marine Brigades on California ports and coastal cities with landings along the seacoast interdicting Highway 1 and Interstate Highway 5.

During phase three People's Liberation Army Special Operations Forces in Mexico would attack north scattered on a broad front along the Mexican/American Border with a goal of creating confusion, disrupting and blocking Interstate 10 wherever possible.

For the General a thornier task but the immense difficulty suited this Zhong Jiang General who wanted nothing more than to be the “Chinese Patton” emulating his tanker hero right down to the stainless steel Ruger 44 magnum strapped to his own hip!

The shock troops making up Special Combined Mechanized Force Group Army V for Victory on the “Rita” would follow ashore after the initial assaults captured the Prince Rupert, BC container port.

His ships would immediately transship “everything” unto the eastbound railway system through Prince George and Jasper masquerading as a series of high priority 240 unit inter-modal container trains

Just before Calgary they would head south through Alberta using the railways that carried Canadian oil through Lethbridge across the border into Shelby Montana.

Below the border or wherever their railway deception became impossible Group V supported by the three Airborne Divisions of 15th Airborne Army of the PLAAF would leave the railroad as they formed up behind their armor with helicopters for air cover driving south along Interstate 15.

It would be Blitzkrieg and “Scorched Earth” by the mounted warriors of Group Army V.

Fifty thousand armed and armored men and women on the ground with more overhead cutting every road, railway, communication and power line as they blasted over, around, and through any resistance until they captured Salt Lake City!

General Du smiled his shark’s smile as he thought about the Chinese emissary who would shortly visit Washington and Ottawa to inform those governments of the several cities and millions captive.  American and Canadian hostages against any retaliation during this occupation and annexation of Alaska, British Columbia, the oil fields of Alberta, Oregon and Washington.

The ceding of territory by the two governments should follow at about the same time as the occupation of the renegade province of Taiwan.

It would call for a nicety of timing.  But really!  Hardly more than the “just in time” shipments to the hated Wal-Mart
