                               ASSD "Orgies"

The authors on alt.sex.stories.* occasionally join in virtual parties
or "orgies." Here they write stories about interactions among themselves,
other authors, and well-known characters from their stories. I
participated in two of these.

                                 Contests

Celeste -- a longtime reviewer on alt.sex.stories -- sponsored a
number of contests. She declared the winners.

susan.txt "Susan" (MF cons) {3,284} : First posted January 1997
This was her "Third Annual Contest," although she used the word
"annual" very loosely. The challenge was to use 20 vocabulary words in the
story. I used all of them and most of them several times. This story
won the contest.

Several months later, she again sponsored a "Third Annual Contest."

This one required a story of fewer than 500 words with a twist at the end.
I didn't enter; but my characters, Bob and Jeanette Brennan entered one
story apiece. These are the stories,

Bob first:

Jeanette:
dune.txt "Dune" (MF cons cheat mf pett voy) {455} : First posted June 1997

At least one of the Brennan Christmas stories was entered in a contest
as well, but that contest was only to write a Christmas story.

Other established posters on alt.sex.stories.d sponsored contests or
celebrations. I entered five of them.

outage.txt "Outage" (MF nc reluc) {1,862} : First posted May 1999

The contest was to involve mud wrestling.

moving.txt "Moving Experience" (MF toys) {3,515} : First posted July 1999
The challenge was to write a sexy story about a necktie.

fish.txt "Fish Tank" (MF wl preg 1st) {4,554} : First posted August 2002
A regular on ASSD, Desdmona (sic) runs a writing workshop called "The Fish
Tank." To celebrate the anniversary, Ray suggested that we each submit a
story to The Fish Tank involving a fish tank, an anniversary, and a
character named Desdmona. I cheated on the last.

Then there was a contest to write a story in the "typical" style of
Dulcinea, a great writer on alt.sex.stories who had died a few years
before. I revised "Windmill Saga," mentioned above, which was already a
Dulcinea parody. I also entered three new pieces:

For an anniversary of the present organization which moderates ASSM,
alt.sex.stories.moderated, there was a "Romance Fest." The task was to
write a romance through the eyes of someone particular. Others took that
as an imitation of the style of some particular writer; I took it as seeing
the same occasion through the eyes of two different persons. So my stories
came in pairs:

picnic_1.txt "Picnic 01" (MF wl cons) {1,679} : First posted June 2002
picnic_2.txt "Picnic 02" (MF wl cons preg) {1.897} : First posted June 2002

shortest.txt "The Shortest Night" (Mf rom 1st) {3,952} : First posted June 2002

For the next anniversary, the story should center around a song. One
possibility was to write a song, so I did. "Pink Molten Valley" is a
variation on "Red River Valley," a song that most Yanks learn in grade
school.

                                  Flashes

Flashes are very short stories. The limit depends on the particular
challenge. I've heard of the limit being set as high as 1,000 words. All
these I've listed here used 600 words or fewer.

flood.txt "Flash Flood" (MF Mf mf voy nc Fsolo preg) {2,420} : First posted May 2003
Ten brief stories written when a poster on Literotica.com asked for stories
of fewer than 600 words. Most of these have considerably fewer. The codes
listed apply to at least one of the stories.
The next three were in resoponse to a contest which Desdmona sponsored
for "postcard fiction," which was defined as stories of 300 words or
fewer.

Mat Twassel decided on a Bradley Stoke Flash Stroke Festival,
partly to honor Bradley Stoke -- another author, and partly as a challenge
to write a stroke story at 18 lines of fewer. My contributions were:

He then posted an outline, and challenged us to write a story according
to that outline and following the same size rules.

                          Pendragon Challenge, PC

I sponsored my own "contests," or challenges. The first challenge was to
tell a story involving a sexy description of one person's placing a condom
on another. Multiple entries being encouraged, I entered three times.

p1c.txt "Pendragon's First Challenge"

My stories were:

turnab.txt "Turnabout is Fair Play" (MF wl cons safe) {2,178} : First posted April 2000

I still have one other story half-written for that challenge.

                     Pendragon's Second Challenge, P2C

This time I didn't bother with judging at all. The challenge was to
imagine a committed couple (not necessarily married) who jointly decide to
have a baby. Then write the story of the first intercourse with that
intention.

                           Unintended Challenges

Sometimes, instead of someone posting: "Let's all write a story about
mud-wrestling," the challenge exists only in my own head.

In 1998, a young lady who was then
(a) an author of some fine stories on alt.sex.stories,
(b) active in the discussions on alt.sex.stories.d, and
(c) an undergraduate, posted about a fan letter she had received. The fan
commented on the lack of mention of birth control in her story. The author
said "I can't start a story with 'I'm five foot four and on the pill.'"
She also ended on a note asking (humorously) if any of us had insight for a
paper she had to write on "The problems of Utilitarianism."

I wrote a story involving 20th century versions of the three leading
Utilitarians, Jeremy Bentham, James Mill, and John Stuart Mill (transformed
into a girl, Johanna). The story began "Johanna Mill was five foot four
and on the pill."

Usually a critic of the slightest bit of plagiarism, I'm rather proud
of pulling large sections of John Stuart Mill's words into the story
(Although attributed to Bentham).

In late 1999, a poster in alt.sex.stories.d confused tense (present)
with POV (first person). I responded with a story which included 8
substories in a frame. For each POV (first person, second person, third
person limited, third person omniscient) there were two substories, each
in a different tense.

                                 Feghoots

Grendel Briarton, an author of science fiction, created a series of
short-shorts "Through Time and Space with Ferdinand Feghoot." Each story
ended in a pun or spoonerism. This led to stories of that sort being
called "feghoots." I plead guilty to two:
