Jennifer’s Terrible Fall

It was the summer Jennifer invited the twins, Jana and Kyra, to visit her on QAI;
Dave was also back in their home province – things had not gone well and
Jennifer’s relationship with Dave was in tatters.  And her future with Mark was
not as certain as it had seemed; they were still engaged, but some major
questions had arisen.  With everything on her mind, Jennifer was not sleeping
easily or soundly; she was tense even when asleep.

Jennifer jumped in fright as she heard her alarm screech.  She quickly turned off
the loud buzzing clock then rolled over and cuddled into Jana’s side.  Jana’s
eyes slowly fluttered open as Jennifer stared at her gorgeous friend.  Jana
smiled at her and whispered, “Good morning, beautiful.  Did you sleep well?”

Jennifer nodded before she replied, “I slept pretty good, considering.  I’m still
very angry at Dave, but thanks to you I feel better.  Thanks for being here for
me.”

Jana leaned over and kissed her forehead before she asked, “Are you sure you
don’t want me to go home with you for the weekend?”

Jennifer shook her head before she replied, “No, you go to Cape Breton with
Dave.  I know you really looked forward to spending time with him and I have to
work all weekend, anyway.  I’ll be fine.”

Jana nodded understandingly, crawled out of bed, and pulled a robe over her sleek
naked body.  Jennifer watched her as she walked out of the small room in
Jennifer’s family trailer.  After Jennifer heard the bathroom door close she got
out of bed, pulled on her own robe, and went into the kitchen.  She got out two
bowls, two spoons, and two cups; then she placed them on the small table.  She
then took the cereal box out of the cupboard and the milk out of the fridge.  She
heard the bathroom door open as she sat at the table and poured cereal into each
bowl.  As Jana sat across from her, Jennifer added milk to their cereal and
filled the two cups, finishing off the container of milk.  It felt good to be
performing the small rituals of a simple breakfast.

Jana smiled at her then whispered, “Thank you, but you didn’t need to get up.”

Jennifer returned the smile and replied, “I just wanted to show you how much I
appreciate all your support this week.  I never would have gotten through this
without you.”

Jana reached across the table and ran the back of her fingers along Jennifer’s
cheek.  “What are friends for?”

Jennifer leaned into Jana’s affectionate hand and stared intently into her eyes.
A tear leaked out as she realized how much she had grown to love her relatively
new friend.  She almost gasped as she asked, “Do you think I’ve lost Dave
forever?”

Jana shook her head no as she explained, “Dave is very disappointed and upset
right now but he will come around.  I’ll make sure of that.”  Jana pulled her
hand back and they ate without any further discussion.  When they both finished
eating, Jennifer got up and took the dishes to the sink.  Jana followed her lead
and helped clear the table.  When all the dishes were cleaned, Jennifer went into
the bathroom while Jana went into the bedroom to get dressed.  After using the
toilet, Jennifer stood up and stared into the mirror above the sink.  She asked
herself, “How did I get myself into this mess?”

Jennifer then thought about Dave and everything they had been through together.
She had first met him when her parents rented a small trailer in this same
campground on QAI many years ago.  They weren’t even teenagers at the time but
they became instant playmates and friends.  She was from Charlestown, New
Dominion while he was from Edwardton, Queen Anne Island; their wintertime homes
were two hours apart, but starting that first summer they were inseparable.

The following summer, her parents, happy with their trial summer, bought a
trailer and rented the site next to Dave’s family at the North Beach Campground
on QAI, for the entire summer.  Dave and Jennifer became even closer and spent
everyday together.  Dave had always had a strong interest in golf and was
becoming very good at it.  Jennifer never really liked golf but that was the only
thing they didn’t do together.  As soon as Dave returned to the campground from
the course, they would hang out until bedtime.

As they both grew older, their friendship continued but something suddenly
changed.  A maturing Jennifer began to fall in love with Dave but he never showed
anything except friendship for her.  She never imagined that her good friend
could be too shy to tell her that he felt the same way about her or that she had
been in his dreams more than once.  The summer they were both fifteen, she
invited a new friend from her hometown of Charlestown to stay with her at the
campground.  She suspected Dave and her friend, Ann, could become more than just
friends, but when it actually happened she was suddenly and unexpectedly very
jealous.  Her true feelings of love for Dave came to the surface and she also
found out, as emotions ran high, that Dave loved her the same way.  After a shaky
few days of jostling relationships, Dave ended up falling for both Jennifer and
Ann.  Both Jennifer and Ann were very happy with the three-way arrangement – as
was Dave, of course.  That summer had been so much fun and Jennifer remembered
making love to Dave in their Love Hut.  He would always be her first lover.

Later that summer, Ann had some family problems and Dave got caught in the middle
when Ann’s mother snuck into his room and onto his cock during a visit to
Charlestown.  That started the breakup between Dave and Ann.  Jennifer almost got
caught up in Ann and Dave’s fighting but her parents pulled her away from Ann and
she eventually realized what had really happened – Ann’s mother had used Dave for
revenge against her husband who was cheating on her.  Unfortunately Dave’s golf
clubs and his relationship with Ann were destroyed in process.  A wide split
formed between Dave and Jennifer over the whole mess.

Jennifer was still irrationally angry with Dave because Ann was influencing her,
but then she heard he had been shot while confronting rapists while he was in
Vancouver for a golf tournament.  Jennifer quickly joined Dave’s family and flew
to be with him.  Dave was badly injured but he recovered and she and Dave got
back together immediately.  When Dave returned to QAI, Jennifer only had a few
weeks with him before she had to return to school in Charlestown.  They spent
some intimate time together, which included Dave’s sister Julie joining them.
Those were very special times for Jennifer and Dave, and Julie, of course.

When Jennifer returned to Charlestown, Ann was angry and jealous that she was
still with Dave; Ann tried to turn their friends against her.  Dave and
Jennifer’s long-distance relationship (if you could call a two-hour drive long
distance) was put to the test and Jennifer failed.  She was very lonely and began
dating another guy, Alex, without breaking up with Dave or even discussing it
with him.  Dave found out on a visit to see her and was very upset.  They broke
up and Jennifer thought she had lost him forever.  Her relationship with Alex
didn’t last long and she was soon missing Dave.

As she thought about that time, her fingers rolled over the pendant that he had
sent her that Christmas and she looked at the inscription she knew by heart,
“Love always, Dave.”  She pictured the sweet card telling her that he missed
her.  She remembered how much that present meant to her at the time and still
did.  She still wore it everyday.  She cried again as she asked herself why she
couldn’t or didn’t simply accept Dave’s proposal of marriage.

She heard a gentle tap on the door and was broken from her reverie.  She dried
her hands and face on a towel before she opened the door.  Jana smiled at her and
they kissed passionately before Jana asked, “Are you sure you want me to go with
Dave on this trip?”

Jennifer nodded and whispered, “Have a good weekend, and give me a call at my
work number when you’re ready to leave on Sunday.”  Jennifer hugged Jana tightly
before she added, “Have fun.”

Jana kissed her again before she walked quietly through the kitchen and out the
door of the trailer.

Jennifer went back into her bedroom, pulled off her robe and climbed back into
bed.  As she lay naked under the thin blanket her mind again went back to Dave
and the winter after he gave her that special Christmas present.  That was the
winter her father suffered a heart attack and it was the scariest moment of her
life.  She called Dave frantically and he rushed to be with her.  His support got
both her and her mother through a very difficult time.  He had spent the night
with her at her house while he mother stayed at the hospital.  Jennifer tried to
seduce Dave that night by climbing naked into his bed in the spare room; but even
with her naked he wouldn’t cheat on his new girlfriend at that time.

After her father was out of danger, Dave had returned to QAI.  He called Jennifer
regularly and promised to get back together with her if he and his current
girlfriend, Katherine, ever broke up.  They did in fact break up and Jennifer
remembered how much closer she and Dave got that summer which was now two years
ago.  Near the end of that summer, Jennifer eventually met Katherine and liked
her immediately.  She and Dave talked and she convinced Dave to invite Katherine
to join Dave and Jennifer’s revived relationship.  Katherine hesitantly agreed
and they had several wonderful weeks together before the summer ended and
Jennifer had to move back to Charlestown.

That was the fall Dave announced he was going to fulfill his dream of playing
golf at a university in the United States; he signed a letter of intent with Wake
Forest University in North Carolina.  She was happy for Dave but sad for their
relationship – she had realized that Dave would now be thousands of miles away
and that she would have to move on without him, at least for the short term.  A
week after Dave’s announcement, she met Mark; they became friends and eventually
he wanted to start dating.  She called Dave who drove to Charlestown so they
could discuss it.  Dave regretfully gave her permission and they broke up by
mutual agreement.  She still remembered Dave asking whether he was making a
mistake moving so far away.  She had wanted to tell him to stay in the Maritimes
but she knew he had to make his own decision; she also knew she would desperately
miss him.

The first year of her relationship with Mark was comfortable but Mark felt
overshadowed by Dave and Dave’s accomplishments.  She remembered him detailing
his insecurity, “Dave is a star golfer.  He is a star hockey player.  He was your
first lover and is still your best friend.  Your parents think of him as a son.
How can I compete with that?  When he realizes how special you are, he will
simply snap his fingers and you will run to him and drop me.”  At the time she
had adamantly denied it, but even then she thought to herself that there could be
some truth to what he feared.  There was still some truth to it as she really did
want to run to Dave.

Almost a year after she started dating Mark, Dave got in trouble at Wake Forest
and she flew down to North Carolina to help him.  She remembered how Mark was
upset with her decision to go see Dave but she assured him she was only going to
help him get out of the trouble he was in with his coach and golf team.

During the three-day trip she had been successful in getting Dave’s mind back on
his golf game and convinced his coach to give him another chance.  She vividly
remembered the first time she saw Jana walking through the woods behind Dave’s
residence at WF.  She had immediately noticed the way Jana looked at Dave and she
knew they could become great friends.  She chuckled as she remembered the look on
Dave’s face when she later introduced him to Jana and told him Jana was joining
them for dinner.  From that first meal, she knew that Jana would become a close
friend to both her and Dave.  Jennifer spent the next two days with Jana, her
twin sister Kyra and Dave before she flew home having accomplished her goal –
Dave was back on the golf team.  He had also met a new friend at Wake Forest who
would support him.

Her return to Charlestown also seemed to accomplish another goal.  Mark finally
seemed to realize that she loved him and wasn’t going to get back together with
Dave.  The fact that she had set Dave up with another girl seemed to solidify
Mark’s assurance and their relationship blossomed after that trip.

She truly thought she was ready to settle down with Mark permanently until she
got that mysterious phone call in late June.  Some girl whose voice Jennifer
could not recognize claimed that Dave loved Jennifer very much and that Jennifer
was breaking his heart.  She remembered her immediate concern – she knew Dave
loved her but thought it was only as friends.  She immediately called Dave’s cell
phone and the same girl answered and repeated, “He really loves you,” then hung
up.  Jennifer called Jana who convinced her, in error, that it was just Dave
trying to break off with Danielle and using Jennifer as an excuse.  Jennifer felt
relieved because she really didn’t think she could decide between her life-long
best friend and her new love, Mark.  She had vowed to Jana that she would talk to
Dave as soon as he returned to QAI for the summer.

But that decision changed two days before Dave was due to arrive home.  Mark
invited her to a very nice restaurant in Charlestown.  She remembered how the
lights were dim and the soft music made the atmosphere very romantic.  After they
finished eating, they were dancing on the small dance floor; Marks’ cologne
filled her lungs sensually.  He suddenly reached into his pants pocket and
dropped to a knee in the middle of the dance floor where he asked her to spend
the rest of her life with him.  She was shocked as she stared down at him – his
eyes sparkled and she memorized the sight before her.  His light blue polo shirt
and navy dress pants looked fantastic on him.  His handsome smiling face looked
very nervous.  She pulled him into her arms and told him she would love to marry
him.  They rushed home so she could phone her parents who were very happy for
her.  She then called Jana and told her the wonderful news.  She wanted to scream
from the roof tops that Mark had proposed to her.

Not until she was lying in bed that night did she remember the conversation she
was to have with Dave.  She had convinced herself that Jana was correct and that
Dave had his own new life in North Carolina so she wouldn’t bother to go see him
and ask about the phone call from Danielle.  But as she tossed and turned trying
to go to sleep she felt something was wrong.  She didn’t know what it was, but
for some reason she knew Dave would be upset about her engagement.  She fell
asleep happy but nervous at the same time.

The next day when she had heard Dave won the British Open, she was very happy for
him but something was still bothering her and, surprisingly, she didn’t make even
a phone call to congratulate him.  She did, however, expect him to call her
because he had done that the day he won the NCAA title a month earlier.  When he
didn’t call she suspected something was wrong but she still didn’t have the heart
to call him.  She went to work the next day and settled back into her job.  She
loved her work as a drafting technician at Jones and Dunn Architects.

She also expected Dave to call her that first week he was home after the British
Open but he never did.  On Tuesday, a friend of hers called and told her to buy a
National Enquirer.  She picked one up at the grocery store and was surprised to
see pictures of Dave with Hilary Duff.  She was also surprised that she suddenly
felt jealous and she thought, “That’s why he hasn’t called.  He’s fallen in love
with Hilary Duff and doesn’t want to tell me.”  Again, she considered calling him
but in the end decided not to.

The next week passed quickly as she anticipated the arrival of Jana and Kyra.
She made plans to show them the sights of Charlestown and very much looked
forward to spending some intimate time with them.

She picked the twins up at the airport on Friday and they hugged each other
lovingly.  After a short tour of Charlestown, they went to Jennifer’s house.  The
twins were tired from the trip and they agreed to spend the rest of the day at
the house.  Jennifer showed the twins the picture of Dave and Hilary Duff and
both girls were surprised by the pictures.  Kyra laughed and promised she would
ask Dave about it.  Jennifer knew she wanted to know but also knew she had no
right to ask.

Jana asked if she could call Dave and Jennifer happily agreed.  Jana called his
cell number and after saying hello she informed Dave that she wasn’t coming to
QAI until Monday because she wanted to spend some time with Jennifer.  Kyra then
spoke to Dave and Jennifer was surprised that Kyra actually teased him about
Hilary Duff.  She listened intently to Kyra’s side of the conversation.  When she
heard Kyra say goodbye she half expected the phone to be passed to her but Kyra
hung up.  Jennifer was disappointed that Dave didn’t want to talk to her but she
wanted to know about Hilary so she asked, “So, what about Hilary?”

Kyra chuckled before she explained, “Dave said that those magazines are all
garbage and that he had fun in Britain but not with Hilary.”

Jennifer nodded; she was surprised by her relief that Dave was not involved with
Hilary.  She wondered why she was so jealous of Hilary but not of the twins – or
Danielle for that matter.  In the end she wasn’t sure why it bothered her but the
thought of Dave with a gorgeous movie star really made her jealous.  She made a
nice dinner for the three of them and both twins helped her in the kitchen as she
prepared the meal.

After they finished eating, they all cleared the table.  Jennifer was cleaning
the dishes at the sink when Jana walked up behind her and pushed her hair to the
side then began kissing her neck.  Jana then moved her hands around Jennifer’s
waist and cupped her large breasts.  Jennifer set down the cloth she was holding
and melted into Jana’s arms.  She had not been with another girl since the last
time she had spent a night with Dave and Katherine and she truly missed the soft
touch that only another woman can provide.

Jennifer looked at Kyra who was standing next to her drying the dishes, Kyra
simply smiled at her.  Jennifer moved a hand behind Kyra’s neck and pulled her
close for a tender kiss.  Jana’s hand slipped under Jennifer’s blouse and gently
pinched her already hard nipples through her bra.  Jennifer moaned in pleasure as
Jana pulled her away from the kitchen counter so Kyra could move in front of
her.  Kyra dropped to her knees rubbing her hands up Jennifer’s thighs under
Jennifer’s beige dress skirt.  Kyra’s hands felt incredibly erotic as she moved
them to Jennifer’s ass and cupped a cheek in each hand.

Jana unbuttoned Jennifer’s blouse and pulled it off her shoulders before she
massaged Jennifer’s large mounds.  Jennifer moaned as she dropped her head on
Jana’s shoulder.  Kyra removed Jennifer’s skirt leaving her standing in the
middle of her kitchen in only her matching beige bra and panties.  Jana unhooked
the bra as Kyra slid the panties down her legs.

Jana then moved Jennifer to the table but Jennifer suggested going to her room
which would be more comfortable.  She took one of each twin’s hands in hers and
guided them to her room.  Jana lay Jennifer on the bed, slipped between her legs,
and started kissing her way up Jennifer’s thighs.  Jennifer moaned as Kyra began
sucking her round firm breasts.  Kyra climbed onto the bed and Jennifer slipped
her hand under Kyra’s white skirt.  Kyra and Jana’s hot tongues were driving
Jennifer crazy as she pushed Kyra’s panties aside and slide a finger into Kyra’s
already wet snatch.  As Jana’s tongue finally reached the tender lips of
Jennifer’s pussy, Jennifer drove two fingers deep inside Kyra and they both
moaned in unison.  Jennifer had a hard time concentrating on pleasing Kyra as
Jana added two fingers to her teasing tongue.  Jana fucked her with two fingers
as she sucked on her clit and Jennifer’s senses quickly overloaded.  Her first
orgasm was very loud and rocked her entire body.  She was still gasping and
moaning as the twins eased her down from her orgasm.

When Jennifer finally caught her breath she looked down at Jana and gasped, “That
was amazing.”

Jana smiled before she replied, “We’re just getting started.”

Jennifer smiled, then pulled Kyra around so that she was straddling her face.
She pulled Kyra’s panties to the side as she slide her tongue deep inside Kyra’s
dripping slit.  Kyra dropped her head between Jennifer’s thighs and picked up
where her sister had left off.  Jennifer was enjoying Kyra’s experienced tongue
as she tried to get Kyra off as well.  Jennifer didn’t notice Jana going through
her suitcase but after a few moments Jana appeared naked above Jennifer’s head as
she climbed onto the bed as well.  Jennifer suddenly saw something swinging
between Jana’s legs.  She had never seen a strap-on dildo before but intuitively
knew what it was.  Jana rubbed lube on the strap-on and moved the head of it to
Kyra’s sphincter, and gently eased it in.  Kyra moaned into Jennifer’s pussy as
she felt the penetration.  Jennifer focused on Kyra’s clit as she felt and saw
Jana fucking her.  It only took a couple of minutes before Kyra screamed through
an exciting orgasm.

After Kyra slowly recovered, the three women continued making love for hours.
Jennifer was totally exhausted when she eventually fell asleep.  She had never
had both her ass and pussy filled at the same time before but when Jana fucked
her in the ass and Kyra worked a vibrator deep into her pussy, she had one of the
strongest orgasms she could ever remember.  She slept well that night.  The next
morning they woke up and made love again.

They didn’t get out sightseeing until after lunch but still spent six hours
touring around Charlestown before they went back to Jennifer’s house for dinner.
They made love again all evening and Jennifer was happily exhausted when she fell
asleep.  Just before they went to sleep Jana told Jennifer about her fantasy to
sleep with her and Dave at the same time.  Jennifer was very surprised, she
doubted Mark would approve and she wouldn’t do it unless he did.  Jana convinced
her to ask Mark even though Kyra told them both she thought Dave might not
actually like the idea.

On Sunday they spent the afternoon sightseeing before Mark joined them for
dinner.  After eating, Jennifer and Mark disappeared into her room.  She
described her two nights with the twins; as she detailed the sex, Mark mounted
her and fucked her excitedly.  He was happily tired from his exertions when she
finally got around to asking him about sleeping with Dave and Jana.  She had
expected he might get upset or even angry but instead he smiled and said, “That
would be okay with me – on one condition.  You have to describe it to me in
detail when you get home next week.”  Jennifer was very surprised at his easy
agreement; she wondered whether this experiment would change her relationship
with Mark.

Mark left shortly after enjoying himself with Jennifer; when Jennifer told Jana
that he had approved a three-way, Jana was very excited.  The three women went to
bed and slept soundly.  Jennifer had to work the next morning so she let the
twins sleep in while she went to work.  They called later in the morning and
Jennifer promised that she would be ready to go at noon.  The twins promised to
make lunch so they could eat before leaving for QAI.

It was mid afternoon when they pulled into North Beach.  The twins loved the
beautiful landscape of the island.  They quickly changed into their bikinis at
Jennifer’s trailer before driving to the beach.  Jennifer was nervous but also
excited to see Dave.  She wondered and somewhat dreaded what his reaction to her
engagement would be.  They parked the car in the parking lot and pulled out their
beach bags before they strolled towards the beach.

As they reached the top of the wooden walkway over the sand dune, Jennifer could
see her parents sitting where they normally sat.  Dave’s parents were also
there.  She guided the twins towards them and Dave’s parents stood up and hugged
her as they congratulated her on the engagement.  Roger introduced Jennifer to
Patsy and Jennifer introduced the twins to her parents.  The twins immediately
asked where Dave was.  Carol pointed to where he was swimming in the water with
his friends from Wake Forest, Alec and Alec’s girlfriend, Shauna.  Kyra and Jana
quickly stripped down to their bikinis and walked towards them.  Jennifer pulled
her wrap off as well and followed close behind.  Jennifer watched Jana run to
Dave as he exited the water when he saw them approach.  After Dave hugged each of
the twins, Jennifer moved close to him and he hugged her tightly.  It felt good
to be in his arms again.  She had missed his loving touch.

He said, “It’s been a long winter without holding you.  I really, really missed
you.”

She smiled.  “I missed you, too.”

She noticed him look at her curvaceous body clad in her revealing red bikini
before he gushed, “You look almost edible.  I almost forgot how spectacular you
look.”  Her heart started to race – he always had that effect on her.  He added,
“Jennifer, you remember Alec from last fall.  This is his girlfriend Shauna.”

She remembered Alec helping her the previous fall when she flew to Wake Forest.
She shook both their hands then said, “Let’s go in the water and cool off.”

The twins walked into the water slowly, holding their arms close to their bodies
and complaining about the cold, but Jennifer ran right in and dove under the cool
water.  She talked with Alec and Shauna as Dave coaxed the twins deeper into the
water.  Eventually they were all standing waist deep in the water, talking
casually.  Jennifer kept stealing looks at Dave; she noticed him suddenly look at
her engagement ring and the way his expression immediately changed.  He had only
been a few feet from her but he subtly moved farther away.  She tried to pretend
she didn’t notice but the hurt look on his face was very obvious.  She
immediately wondered if he did feel more for her than just friendship.

She watched as Kyra moved closer to Dave and they seemed to start an intense
conversation.  She suddenly wondered if Kyra knew more than she had been saying.
Jana snuck up behind Dave and Kyra and began splashing them; a large water fight
broke out.  Jennifer tried to get closer to Dave but every time he noticed her
close to him, he would move away.  She wondered what was wrong with him.  She
finally got frustrated by Dave’s reaction to her and turned to go in shore.  Jana
followed her immediately and Alec and Shauna wondered in close behind.  Jana
asked, “Is something wrong, Jennifer?”

Jennifer looked at her friend, “There’s something wrong with Dave.  He doesn’t
seem to want to be around me.”

Jana immediately argued, “No, you must be imagining it.”

Jennifer shrugged but deep down she knew it was true.  When they reached her
parents, she picked up her towel and turned to look at Dave in the water.  As
soon as she looked at him, he turned his back to her.  Something was definitely
bothering him.  She watched as Kyra spoke to him and she noticed the animated
actions Kyra was making with her hands.  She saw Kyra grab him by his shoulders
and speak to him intently.  Kyra finally shook her head and walked towards
shore.  Jennifer watched as Dave stared at Kyra for a long moment then turned and
began swimming away from the shore.  Jennifer was worried about him and she
watched as he swam past the ropes then started swimming parallel to the beach.
When Kyra approached, Jennifer stood up, walked to her, and asked, “What’s going
on with Dave?”

Kyra looked into her eyes very seriously, “I can’t say, but you should have a
talk with him, alone.”

Jana walked up to them and asked, “What’s going on?”

Jennifer looked at Jana and asked her, “When Dave gets back, will you ask him to
go for a walk?  I will join you.”  Jana simply nodded but when it was obvious
they weren’t going to tell her what was going on she simply followed them back to
where Jennifer’s parents were sitting.

Jennifer lay on the beach and she watched as Dave slowly swam out of sight.  She
couldn’t believe he kept swimming and swimming.  She rolled over and started to
think about what he might be thinking and then Danielle’s unsettling phone call
suddenly echoed in her head.  She tried to carry on a normal conversation with
Jana and her parents but she was very distracted.

After well over a half hour she suddenly spotted Dave walking towards them along
the beach.  He seemed to be stopping and talking to friends and he looked to be
in a better mood.  As soon as he sat down on his towel, Jana asked, “I know you
just finished swimming, Dave, but do you feel like going for a walk up the
beach?”

He replied he did, then stood up and helped Jana to her feet.  Jennifer was deep
in thought when she heard Jana ask her to go as well and she was a little slow
reacting but she got to her feet.  She moved beside Jana and Dave seemed to
deliberately go to Jana’s other side.  Kyra also moved to Dave’s far side.  The
conversation as they walked down the beach was about what they were going to do
all week and about their summer vacations to date.  Jennifer noticed that when
she asked Dave a question, his responses to her were very short and he wouldn’t
hold eye contact with her.  There was definitely something bothering him.  She
noticed they had reached the place on the beach where she and Dave used to walk
through the dunes and go to their special place.  She reached across Jana and
took his hand.  “Want to go visit our special place?”

She was relieved when he finally looked directly into her eyes and slowly
replied, “I’d like that.”  Jana said she wanted to see their special place but
Kyra quickly pulled the insensitive Jana down the beach.  Dave’s hand felt
wonderful in hers and Jennifer was so happy to have her long-time best friend
close to her.

They walked over the dune and up the path leading to their special place, she
keep thinking that something was seriously bothering him and she had to know
what.  She was very nervous but she finally asked, “What’s wrong, Dave?  You seem
very distracted and maybe even upset.  Have I done something to make you angry
with me?”

Dave simply replied, “I’ve just been a little tired from the hectic schedule I’ve
had for the last six months.  I guess I’m just a little worn out.”

Jennifer knew better than to believe him and she pushed for a reasonable answer.
“Is there a problem with Sarah?”

“No.”

“Are you seeing Hilary or something?  Is there a problem with her?”

She was surprised he actually chuckled then replied, “No, definitely not a
problem with Hilary – and, no, I’m not seeing her or dating her or anything
although she did call last week.  And, before you even ask, the magazine story
was made up entirely; we barely know each other.”

Jennifer actually felt relieved by his confirmation that nothing was going on
with Hilary.  They had made their way up the clay road and were well away from
the beach when she turned to face him and took his other hand in hers.  She
stared into his eyes before she softly said, “Are you having a problem with
Danielle?”  He shook his head.  “Did you know she called me?”  Dave hesitated for
a moment then nodded yes.  She wondered how he knew so she asked, “Did Danielle
tell you she called me?  And what she said?”  Dave again shook his head.  She was
getting very frustrated with his unwillingness to open up to her.  She finally
begged, “Dave, talk to me.  If she didn’t tell you then how do you know?”

Dave replied with one simple word, “Kyra.”

She couldn’t believe it when he said Kyra’s name.  Jana had said she asked Kyra
and she didn’t know anything that was going on with Dave.  Jennifer looked at him
questioningly, “Kyra, told you?  Did she tell you everything Danielle said?  Did
she ask you if what Danielle said was true?”

Dave replied, “Yes, she told me everything but she didn’t ask me if it was true
because we had already talked about it and she knew how I felt.”

What did he mean she didn’t ask if it was true?  If she didn’t ask, then she
already knew the answer which meant … Jennifer blurted out, “Does that mean it’s
true?  You really love me like that?  That much?”

Dave finally opened up and he confessed his true love for her in a torrent of
words.  At first she was happy that nothing serious was wrong with him, but then,
when he asked her to leave Mark, she was stunned.  Her first thought was to say
yes – she loved Dave deeply.  As he continued to speak she was shocked to hear
him say he won the British Open to show how much he loved her.  She suddenly felt
guilty – she hadn’t watched his final round because she had spent that day with
Mark.  Her mind was racing as she thought about Mark’s proposal.  Dave suddenly
held her hand and said he wanted his engagement ring to be on her hand instead of
Mark’s.  Deep down she wanted to be with Dave but her mind replayed Mark’s
previous concern and words ‘When he realizes how special you are, he will simply
snap his fingers and you will run to him and drop me.’  She thought how she did
love Mark and couldn’t seriously hurt him by suddenly leaving him for Dave.

She looked into Dave’s eyes as a million thoughts ran through her head.  She
heard him say, “I love you more than anything in the world.  I need you – you are
my soul-mate.  Please leave Mark and be with me.  I’ll leave Wake Forest and
enroll at your university.  I’ll quit golf if you want.  I’ll do anything.
Please tell me you want to be with me, too.”

She was totally shocked by his words.  She never imagined he felt so deeply for
her.  He was willing to give up his golf career for her.  Tears ran down her
cheeks as she kept asking herself what she should tell him.  She did love him but
she also loved Mark.  She knew her expression of doubt would hurt him so she
pulled him into a hug as she thought about what she should do.  He was right –
they were soul-mates but she also loved Mark.  She kept thinking about what to do
but couldn’t decide.  She heard herself say, “I love you too, Dave.”  But it felt
like it was a dream – or was it a nightmare?

She thought about how she and Mark had grown really close over the past six
months and how much they loved each other.  She held Dave tight, not wanting him
to see the anguish in her face as she debated what to say.  She couldn’t agree to
be with him without talking to Mark first.  Did she want to leave Mark?

Dave suddenly pushed her back and his joyful expression evaporated in an instant
as he saw the frightened expression on her face.  Again, he softly asked, “Will
you leave Mark and be with me?”

Tears ran steadily down her face as she knew she couldn’t tell him what he wanted
to hear.  She slowly replied, “I don’t know, Dave.  I do love you but I love
Mark, too.  Two years ago I would definitely have said yes – but right now?  I’m
not sure.  I need some time to think.  Can you give me some time?”

The look of incredible disappointment on his face broke her heart.  How could she
hurt her best friend like this?  She wanted to tell him yes but she wasn’t really
sure if that was what she wanted to do.  She watched him look at Mark’s ring and
he suddenly let that hand go.  She thought he was getting mad and was going to
walk away from her but he didn’t release her other hand.  She realized that
Mark’s ring, that symbol of her engagement, was really bothering him.  His eyes
slowly moved up until he was staring into her watery eyes.  He whispered, “I will
wait for you – forever if I have to.”

She started to cry again when they suddenly heard someone walk through the woods
from the golf course.  Jennifer softly said, “Let’s walk back to the beach.”

When he said no that he wanted to be alone, she wanted to stay with him but she
couldn’t tell him what he wanted her to say so she stared intently at him as he
released her hand then walked towards the woods separating North Beach golf
course from the clay road they were on.  When he disappeared through the trees
she debated rushing to him and telling him yes but she knew she wasn’t ready to
do that.  She eventually turned and walked back towards the beach.  She seemed to
walk as if she were in a daze – she compared Mark to Dave and everything told her
she wanted to be with Dave.

As she walked over the sand dune, she saw Jana and Kyra sitting waiting for her.
She walked to them and hugged Jana.  Tears were running down her cheeks as she
told the twins that Dave asked her to leave Mark to be with him.  Jana asked what
she told him and Jennifer confessed that she simply didn’t know what to say.  She
loved Mark as well and never expected Dave to ask her to leave him.  She looked
at Kyra and whispered, “I was totally shocked when he asked me.  He feels really
hurt because I couldn’t say yes but I haven’t said no either.  I just need time
to think.  Will you go check to make sure he is okay?”  Kyra kissed Jennifer on
the cheek and, after receiving directions to where Dave was, Kyra walked away
over the sand dune.

Jana and Jennifer went back to where her parents were sitting.  She noticed that
Alec and Shauna were staring at her and she knew that they must have known what
Dave was feeling.  She screamed in her mind, “Why didn’t someone warn me?”  Her
parents asked if she was okay and she told them she was fine.  There was
something in the way her mother looked at her that told her that her mother knew
as well.

She lay down on her towel and pretended to be simply tanning herself but she was
quickly becoming an emotional mess.  She didn’t have a clue what to do.  Dave was
her best friend and they knew each completely but she had made a commitment to
Mark who she believed also loved her.  Eventually Dave and Kyra returned; Dave
looked very sad.  He asked Kyra, Shauna, and Alec to go snorkeling and they went
into the water.  Shortly after they went snorkeling Jennifer asked Jana, “Are you
ready to go back to the trailer?”

Jana nodded so they said goodbye to everyone on the beach and left for the
campground.  Once they were in the car Jennifer started to cry and Jana comforted
her.  Jennifer explained, “I’m so confused.  I love Dave very much but I thought
he had moved on without me and now I love Mark too.  He has supported me for well
over a year and I don’t know how I could break it off with him.  But Dave has
been my best friend forever.  What do you think I should do?”

Jana held Jennifer in her arms as she whispered, “I don’t really know.  I’m as
shocked as you are.  I can’t believe Kyra didn’t say something.  I’ve gotten to
know Dave very well this past year and he is very special, but Mark seems very
nice as well.  I don’t know what you should do but don’t rush to decide.  I’d
hate to see you make the wrong decision.”

Jennifer nodded agreement, started the car, and drove back to the campground.
She led Jana to her room and simply sat on her bed where they talked.  Jennifer
tried to make a list of all of their good qualities and another list of all their
bad qualities.  She knew Dave so well that both his lists were much longer.  They
eventually heard a car pull up in front of the trailer and Jennifer got up and
closed the door to her room.  After a few minutes, her mother called through the
door that her father was starting the barbecue.  Jennifer thanked her but didn’t
come out of her room.

Ten minutes later Kyra tapped on the door and asked if she could come in.  As
soon as she entered, she sat beside Jennifer and said, “I’m really sorry I didn’t
tell Jana or you about Dave’s feelings but he made me promise not to tell either
of you anything.”

Jennifer nodded understandingly and asked, “When was that?”

Kyra explained, “It was the night he won the NCAA title.  He said he had called
you and I could tell he was very upset.  He tried to act normal but I could tell
something was really bothering him so I pulled him aside and we had a serious
talk.  He said he thought he had made a mistake going to Wake Forest and he
wished he had never left you.  I begged him to call you to explain his feelings
but he wouldn’t.  He was scared you would reject him.  I guess he also told
Danielle much the same thing a few weeks later.  When you called Jana, I couldn’t
say anything because I had promised Dave that I wouldn’t tell you or Jana that he
did love you as much more than friends.”

Jana growled, “You should have told me anyway.”

Kyra glowered at her sister then said, “If I had, you would have told Jennifer;
that’s why Dave made me promise not to tell.  I wouldn’t betray his trust.”

Jennifer cut in, “Trust is really important to Dave.  You did the right thing,
Kyra.  I forgive you for not telling me.”  They hugged before Jennifer asked,
“How is Dave doing?”

Kyra looked at her very intently, “He’s very worried you will reject him.  I know
he loves you very much.”

Jennifer quickly replied, “I love him too but I also love Mark.  I want to say
yes to Dave but I don’t want to lose Mark.”  She began to cry again.  “I’m so
confused.”

Kyra and Jana both hugged and consoled her.  After about fifteen minutes,
Jennifer’s mother said dinner was ready.  Before they left the trailer, Jennifer
explained, “I don’t think I want to go to Dave’s house tonight.  I’m going to
stay here.”

Jana immediately added, “I’ll stay with you.”  Jennifer smiled blandly at her.

Kyra asked, “Do you mind if I go to town with Dave?”

Jennifer softly said, “No, I don’t mind.  Please tell Dave that I’m not rejecting
him; I do love him, but I need time to confirm to myself that I’m ready to leave
Mark.”

Kyra nodded and they all went out to eat.  The atmosphere around the picnic table
was very somber and quiet.  Very little was said during the meal and when
everyone finished eating Jennifer told Dave she was going to stay at the
trailer.  He simply nodded that he understood but he never made eye contact with
her.  She felt terrible to see Dave so sad; she felt just as awful.

After Kyra confirmed that she was still welcome to go to town with Dave, she ran
to the trailer and got her bag.  A short while later, Jennifer watched Dave drive
up the clay road and out of sight.  She went to her room with Jana and they spent
a long time talking.  She eventually heard her parents come into the trailer and
she left Jana in the bedroom to go talk to them.

She sat in a chair across from the couch in the very small living room where her
parents were cuddled together.  She looked at her mother intently before she
asked, “Do you know what happened today?”

Heather replied, “Yes, Dave told us he declared his love and asked you to leave
Mark.”

Jennifer nodded then asked, “Did you know he was going to ask me?”

Heather kind of shrugged, “I had an idea.  The night Dave arrived home from
England, he was on top of the world.  He asked me if you were going to be home
the next day because he wanted to go see you.  I told him you were working but
would probably be home in the evening.  I could tell he wanted to tell you
something important but he didn’t know you were engaged to Mark so I told him
about that.  His expression changed drastically and I noticed his mood was
suddenly very sad.  He made an excuse about not going to see you because he had
other plans but I knew it was more than that.  I left him alone with his mother
but I wondered all night what was wrong.  I didn’t find out until the next night
when Carol told me he had decided he wanted to ask you to leave Mark to be with
him, but once he found out you were engaged, he changed his mind.”

Jennifer gasped then pleaded, “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Heather moved off the couch and held her daughter in her arms.  “I spoke to your
father about it and we both agreed that we had to stay out of it.  We have always
stayed out of your relationships and we didn’t think this was a good time to
interfere.  If Dave changed his mind and never asked you then we would have told
you something he didn’t want said.  We thought it best to let the two of you deal
with it – you’re both adults now.”

Jennifer cried on her mother’s shoulder before she asked, “Do you have any
advice?”

Heather held her close and whispered, “Only that you should take your time and
make sure you are certain before you chose either Dave or Mark.  One of them will
be very upset – so be careful to consider their feelings.”

Jennifer nodded before she replied, “I know and I don’t want to hurt either one
of them.”  She then hugged her mother tightly before she went back to her room.
She and Jana talked most of the evening before they finally went to sleep.
Jennifer’s emotions changed from sadness to delight as she described some of the
very special times she spent with Dave and Mark.

They woke shortly after eight the next morning and Jennifer was afraid Dave would
show up that afternoon but luckily he respected her space and she didn’t see him
all day.  Jennifer spent the day at the beach with Jana but she thought about
Dave and Mark constantly.  She couldn’t decide what she wanted to do and the day
seemed to drag on forever.  She debated whether she could call Mark but that
would only upset him and he didn’t need to know what was going on until she made
her decision.

Later that evening, after dinner, she and Jana went for a walk through the
campground.  Jennifer introduced Jana to some of her and Dave’s friends and five
straight friends asked her if she was proud of Dave for winning the British
Open.  She thought, “Of course I’m proud.  What a stupid question,” but she kept
remembering Dave saying he won the tournament for her and she eventually got very
upset.

She and Jana returned to the trailer and spent another quiet evening in her
bedroom.  Kyra eventually called and gave a brief update on Dave.  She explained
that he was patiently waiting for Jennifer to decide but he was still very
anxious.  She also asked if they were still going to Basin Head the next day and
Jennifer paused before Kyra said that Dave would give her lots of space but he
really wanted her to go.  Jennifer said she would.

She and Jana eventually fell asleep cuddled in each others arms.  Jennifer was
relieved to have Jana’s support.

The trip to Basin Head the next day was very hard on Jennifer; she was afraid to
face Dave.  As they pulled into the parking lot, Dave’s family and friends were
unloading their van.  Jennifer’s dad pulled up beside them and they were
unpacking their car when Dave walked over to Jennifer and asked to speak to her.
She followed him a short distance away from both of their families.  She was
nervous that he might ask for a decision but instead he explained, “As I said, I
will wait for as long as I have to for an answer but I realize that we both have
friends here on vacation and it’s not fair for my stupidity to ruin their fun.
Please let’s just behave as if we are normal friends for their sake.”

She was shocked as she thought he was questioning their friendship.  She had
thought they would be friends forever but now he suddenly wanted her to pretend
to be friends.  She got very upset and replied, “We are friends.  I don’t want
that ever to change.  I’m sorry I can’t answer right away but it is just a very
difficult decision.”

He shook his head.  “I said I don’t expect a fast decision.  Let’s just carry on
as normal as we can, okay?”

She nodded.  “I’ll try.”

Her mind was racing as she wondered if she was losing her best friend but she
pushed that thought briefly from her head as she felt his arms wrap around her
and he kissed her cheek before he guided her back to the car.  She felt so
wonderful in his arms and she asked herself why she couldn’t simply tell him she
loved him the same way he loved her.

The rest of the day went really well and she eventually started to feel very
comfortable with Dave.  He seemed like his happy self as he played in the water
with the twins and Jennifer enjoyed spending time with all of them.  Dave
eventually asked if she and Jana would like to go to the theatre that evening and
Jennifer agreed to go.

She had a wonderful evening and she was happy to spend some enjoyable time with
Dave.  She got to know Alec and Shauna better and she liked them very much.
After the show Jana asked Jennifer if they could sleep with Dave that night as
she had previously planned.  Jennifer got very upset and said, “Jana, I can’t do
that after everything that has happened this week.”

Jana tried to talk her into it, but Jennifer refused.  Kyra suddenly walked to
them and when she heard what Jana was asking she berated Jana and told her to
stop acting so damn selfish.  Jana got angry at her sister and started pouting.
Jennifer turned to face Dave who was standing too far away to hear the details of
their conversation.  She was surprised to see him staring at her curiously.  She
called to him to say she and Jana were going to North Beach.  They went to
Jennifer’s car and drove off; the drive to North Beach was very quiet.  When they
were eventually in bed together Jana explained that she really wanted to spend
the night with Jennifer and a man so she asked if maybe they could do it with
Mark instead.  Jennifer was surprised by the request and simply said, “We’ll
see.”  Deep down she hoped Jana would forget about it.

They fell asleep and Jennifer felt much better about the day she had spent with
Dave.  She still wasn’t sure who she wanted to be with but she hoped that if she
did choose Mark that she might not lose Dave’s friendship.

They slept in the next morning and, after spending the morning at the pool, they
had a good lunch at the trailer.  Jennifer and Jana went for a long walk before
returning to the trailer to relax.  Jennifer was sitting on the couch when Dave
entered the trailer.  He looked very upset and asked to speak to her alone. They
walked up the clay lane towards the entrance to the campground; as they walked
Dave started, “Kyra told me last night what the argument between you and Jana was
about.”  Jennifer tried to explain but Dave cut her off.  “Please let me finish.
As I told you, I love you more than anything but I could never allow you to have
sex with another man.  If we were in a committed relationship, I would never
sleep with another woman and I would expect you not to sleep with another man.
Why would Mark allow you to do that?”

Jennifer was very surprised by Dave’s anger.  She had never seen him so mad.  She
tried to explain, “Mark believes in open relationships and he …”

Dave cut her off and said, “Well, I don’t agree with him and if you do then we
are obviously much more different than I thought.  If that is the kind of man you
want, then Mark is the man for you and you are welcome to him.”

Jennifer started to get angry as well.  Dave had no right to judge her or Mark’s
decisions.  But she could hear an eerie finality in Dave’s words and she pleaded,
“What about when we were with Ann and Katherine?”

Dave looked a little surprised but quickly replied, “That was different.  We all
agreed to those relationships and we were still exclusive to each other.”

Jennifer could see Dave slipping out of her life and she didn’t want that to
happen.  She started to cry and gasped, “What if I want you and not Mark?”

Dave looked into her eyes.  “Then tell me so right now.”

She still didn’t know who she wanted but she didn’t want to lose her best
friend.  She sobbed, “You said you would wait; I haven’t decided yet.”

Dave’s anger would not allow him to waiver.  “I need to know now or it’s over.”

She cried, “I can’t decide now.”

Dave sighed.  “I guess it’s over then.  I love you, Jennifer, and part of me
always will – but you have actually made your decision.”

Dave started to walk back towards the campsite.  He was walking out of her life
and she couldn’t allow him to do that.  She ran to catch him and she pleaded,
“We’ll still be friends, won’t we?”

Dave turned and faced her.  “Right now I hurt so bad that I don’t even want to
look at you.  I don’t know.  Maybe over time but right now I need to get away
from you and I never imagined I would ever say that.”

He turned and continued walking.  She couldn’t believe he wanted to get away from
her.  They had been best friends forever and she couldn’t imagine a future
without him as some part of it.  She chased him and pleaded with him but he
wouldn’t even listen to her.  When he got to his car, he turned and looked at
her.  “Goodbye, Jennifer.”

She yelled, “No Dave, I can’t lose you.”  But he had already slammed the door and
was pulling out of the campsite.  Jana came running out of the trailer and held
Jennifer in her arms as she cried.

Jana asked, “What happened?”

As Dave’s car drove out of sight, Jennifer ran into the trailer and threw herself
on her bed.  She cried into her pillow and it was at least fifteen minutes before
she could explain what happened to Jana.  Jana shook her head before she said,
“That’s not fair of him.  He said he would give you enough time to decide.”

Jennifer got angry and growled, “Pack up your clothes.  I’m leaving for
Charlestown right away.  You can come with me or stay with Dave – it’s your
choice.”  Jennifer then got up and started stuffing her clothes into her bag as
she growled, “He has no damn right to order me around.  Who the hell does he
think he is?  He has no right to demand that I leave Mark.  He left me and went
to live his stupid fucking golf dream.  The hell with him!”

Jana pleaded, “Let me call Kyra and see if she knows what’s going on.”  Jana
called Kyra and told her what happened.  Jennifer suddenly realized what she was
doing to the twins when she heard Jana sob, “I don’t know what we are going to
do, Kyra.  Jennifer wants to leave immediately and I don’t want to leave her this
upset.”  Jana listened to Kyra for a moment and then turned to Jennifer and
asked, “Will you wait for Kyra to talk to Dave?”

Jennifer saw the deep sadness in her friends face and she nodded yes then lay
down on her bed and buried her face in a pillow as she began crying again.  Jana
joined her a few moments later.  Jennifer and Jana cuddled on the bed as Jana
tried to console her.  After twenty minutes Kyra called back and by then Jennifer
had calmed down a little.  She agreed to stay one more night and convinced Jana
to go to Cape Breton with Dave and Kyra for the weekend as originally planned.
Jana was relieved and she told Kyra the news.  After Jana promised to be ready
early in the morning when Dave came to pick her up, she said goodbye to Kyra.
Jana then sat with Jennifer and they talked about Jennifer’s relationships with
both Dave and Mark.

When her mother got home later in the afternoon, Jennifer asked her to go for a
walk and she told her what happened with Dave.  Heather told Jennifer that
whenever you bring extra people into your relationship then you bring significant
complications with it.  Heather agreed that Dave had no right to judge her and
Mark’s decisions but she also sympathized with Dave when she explained that Dave
probably wanted Jennifer very much and the idea of sharing her with anyone was
beyond his imagination.  Jennifer felt better after the conversation and she
realized she still had a lot to think about.

She and Jana spent a quiet evening around the trailer.  Jennifer’s thoughts were
on Dave and what life would be like without him.  She had always known he would
be there for her, just as when her father had that heart attack.  She couldn’t
imagine not talking to him or even sending e-mails to him.  Jana knew Jennifer
was deep in thought and allowed her space to think.

When they eventually went to bed Jana asked if Jennifer wanted her to go back to
Charlestown instead of Cape Breton but Jennifer insisted she had to go to work
and that Jana should spend some time with Dave.  They eventually fell asleep,
naked, cuddled in each other’s arms.  Jennifer really appreciated Jana sticking
by her.

Jennifer was broken from her reverie when she heard a car pull up outside – she
knew it had to be Dave’s car.  Part of her mind told her to run to Dave and beg
him to forgive her for not immediately agreeing to marry him but most of her was
angry with him for doing just what Mark had predicted – snapping his fingers and
expecting her to run to him.  Dave was truly her best friend – they had literally
grown up together and she would always love him deeply, but did she love him more
than Mark?

She heard voices outside; then she heard the front door of her trailer open.  She
thought Jana must have forgotten something so she looked up and waited for Jana
to enter her room.  She heard heavy footsteps move through the kitchen and she
was surprised to see Dave appear at her doorway – she immediately became
defensive.  She growled, “I don’t want to speak to you, Dave.”  Dave’s angry
words the previous day had really hurt her and she was ready to fight back this
time but Dave’s expression today was totally different – her heart instantly
melted.  He moved towards the bed and she automatically moved over to make room
for him to sit.  He looked like the old Dave – her best friend.

He softly said, “You don’t have to speak but please listen.  I’m sorry I was an
asshole yesterday.  I was very upset that you rejected me, or at least put me
off, and when I found out about the other thing, I lost it.”

She listened patiently and as he apologized her heart sank even lower.  Inside
her mind, one part of her wanted to wake up another part of her brain with a slap
to the face.  Why couldn’t she simply say yes to him and agree to leave Mark?
Mark’s prediction kept repeating in her head and she knew she had resolved not to
do that to Mark.  No matter how much she truly loved Dave, she also loved Mark.
She stared into Dave’s loving eyes and softly replied, “I didn’t reject you.”

He quickly responded, “By not immediately agreeing to be with me, it felt like a
rejection.  I obviously feel much more for you than you do for me.”

She immediately argued, “That’s not true.”  As he continued to talk, her mind
raced and she barely heard what he said.  She wondered silently, “How could Dave
say he loved me more than I loved him?  I love him more than anyone.  More than
Mark?  Yes, even more than Mark.  But I do love Mark and can’t simply dump him
after two wonderful years.”

Lost in thought, she heard him make some sort of apology but wasn’t really
focused until he said, “Have a good life with Mark.  Goodbye, Jennifer.”

His words sounded so final and she watched a tear run down his cheek.  She had
hurt him deeply.  She felt awful.  She had hurt the one person she loved more
than any other in this world.  She was almost numb when he stopped talking and
she stared at him in shock.  He looked so sad; she wanted to hug him but before
she had a chance he stood up and walked out of the trailer.

She lay there staring at the door for a brief moment in complete surprise – she
had to have him in her life.  She jumped out of bed quickly and found her robe.
She pulled it on as she ran through the trailer then dashed out the door.  Dave’s
car was sitting in front of his family’s trailer and her heart jumped into her
throat as she ran towards it.  She suddenly realized it was empty and she saw his
family van pulling away up the clay road.

Tears ran down her cheeks as she waved at the departing van to stop.  Surely Dave
would look back.  The van kicked up a cloud as it moved up the lane and as the
dust rose, Jennifer’s heart sank.  She watched for him to look back.  Dave didn’t
look back.  “Why didn’t he look back?” she fretted.

When the van disappeared out of sight, Jennifer sullenly walked back to her
trailer.  As she walked through the door she saw the portable phone and picked it
up then walked into her room.  She pulled off her robe and crawled into bed
staring at the phone.  She started to dial Dave’s cell number but she heard
Mark’s words echo in her head and she cried as she hung up even before it began
ringing.  She was still being torn in two directions but she didn’t know what to
do.  She finally set the phone on the bedside table and cried into her pillow.
She eventually cried herself back to sleep.

She woke shortly after seven o’clock and packed her bags in her car.  Her mother
came into the kitchen as Jennifer was carrying her bag to the car and asked if
she was okay.  When Jennifer shrugged, Heather hugged her daughter lovingly.
Jennifer cried on her mother’s shoulder as she said, “I’m so confused.  I don’t
know what to do.  Who should I choose, Mom?  Please tell me; I can’t decide.”

Heather held Jennifer at arms length so she could look lovingly into her eyes.
“I can’t make that decision for you, honey.  You will have to live with your
decision so you have to be the one to make it.  Your father and I will completely
support whatever choice you make.”

She pulled her mother close.  “I know you will.  I love you, Mom.  I don’t know
what to do but I do know I need to get away from here so I can think clearly.
I’ll call you later.”

Jennifer kissed her mother on the cheek before she pulled away and went out the
door.  She waved to her mother standing in the door of the trailer before she
backed onto the clay road and followed the same path Dave had departed on just
hours earlier.

As she drove back to New Dominion she thought about Dave and she continually
asked herself if she had made a mistake not accepting his engagement request.
She arrived in Charlestown mid-morning and decided to go to work.  She felt she
needed the distraction of work plus she had a project due the middle of the
following week.  She had planned on working the entire weekend to make up for the
vacation time she had taken during the week.  Her boss was happily surprised to
see her and they went over some design modifications before she sat down in front
of her computer and started working with the AutoCAD design software.

She managed to push Dave from her thoughts as she concentrated on her design
project.  After two hours of relatively productive work she opened her mail
program to see if Mark had left any messages.  She read a message from Mark
asking her to contact him when she returned.  She sent a reply explaining that
she was home but at work.

She didn’t feel hungry so she went back to work on her project.  The afternoon
passed quickly as she made steady progress on the revisions.  Just before normal
quitting time she saved the project on the server and went in to review her
changes with her boss.  He was very pleased with her progress and he complimented
her on her excellent work.

She loved architectural design and knowing she did it well felt very satisfying.
The sense of accomplishment when she finished a project was unbelievably
fulfilling.  She wondered what it would like to work on a huge project – her
ultimate dream.  Then, she thought about how incredible Dave must have felt when
he won the British Open but suddenly she remembered him telling her he had won
the tournament to show how much he loved her.  A tear came to her eye and she
unexpectedly excused herself and went to the washroom.

She went into one of the stalls and sat on the toilet.  Tears were running
steadily down her cheeks as she thought about Dave and the hurt look on his face
when he left the trailer that morning.  She was still sobbing when she heard the
bathroom door open.  The familiar voice of the receptionist asked if she was
okay.  Jennifer assured the older woman that she was fine and would be out in a
moment.

After she heard the door close, Jennifer pulled herself together and walked out
of the stall.  She freshened herself up in front of the mirror before she
returned to her boss’s office and apologized for rushing out so suddenly.  Mr.
Jones asked her to sit down before he said, “Jennifer, you are one of the
brightest and most enthusiastic technicians I have hired in many years.  Your
work is spectacular and you seem to anticipate my thoughts almost as well as my
wife.  I can tell something is bothering you, is there anything I can do to
help?”  After she wordlessly shook her head no, he continued.  “If you need time
off, I can find someone else to finish your project.”

Jennifer again shook her head.  “No, sir.  I really need to finish this project
myself.  I’ll be fine but thank you for asking.”  Her boss nodded and they
reviewed his newest changes before he left for the weekend.  She took a short
break to go out for a bite to eat but she returned by six o’clock and started
right back into her project.  She had been working hard for three hours when she
heard the buzzer for the front door.  She looked at her watch not realizing it
had gotten so late.  She shook her head as she walked to the door.  She had
actually been able to push Dave out of her mind completely, but the moment she
saw Mark standing outside the door, she thought about Dave’s proposal again.

She opened the door and Mark strolled in casually before he locked the door
behind himself.  He looked lovingly at Jennifer in her knee-length navy dress
skirt and soft white blouse.  He pulled her into his arms and kissed her
passionately before he asked, “So how was the week?  Did you have a good time?
Did you and Jana have sex with Dave?  Tell me all the details.”

Jennifer couldn’t believe he wanted to hear the details.  He had told her she had
to describe the scene in detail when he approved the initial idea.  She thought
how upset Dave was about him approving of her having sex with another guy and now
she thought how much more angry Dave would be if he knew that Mark actually got
excited about hearing the potential details.  She looked into his eyes and shook
her head as she explained, “We didn’t do anything.  Dave got upset when he found
out you approved of your fiancée having sex with another guy and he refused to
sleep with me.”

Mark shook his head.  “What a goof.  He had a chance to make love to two
beautiful women and he didn’t?  What kind of stud does that?  I guess I was all
wrong about him.”

Jennifer got mad at Mark for calling Dave a name and she protested.  “Don’t call
Dave a goof.  He just has different values than you.”

Mark smiled down at her and pulled her into his arms again and kissed her.  He
then whispered, “I don’t care about your ex; he’s history.  I just wanted to come
by and show you how much I missed you.”

After a very sensual kiss, he guided her to her cubicle.  As soon as they reached
her desk he began unfastening the buttons on her blouse and, even though she
protested, he continued until her blouse was slipped off her shoulders and tossed
onto her desk.  He sucked one of her nipples through her white camisole and, even
though she continued to protest, he pulled the camisole off before he unhooked
her bra.

Her nipples quickly grew hard, more from the cool air conditioned office than any
passionate feelings; Mark sucked the other one into his mouth.  He slipped his
hand under her skirt as he pushed her back against her work surface.  Jennifer
pleaded, “Please, Mark, not tonight.  I have a lot of work to do and I really
don’t feel like making love, especially here.”

He smiled at her and overrode her objections, “I told you I always wanted to make
love to you here in the office and after a week without seeing you, I’m really
horny.”  He slipped his hand inside her panties and directly eased a finger into
her soft love hole.

She really didn’t want to make love but his teasing mouth and fingers had made
her body respond and juices began to flow automatically.  She thought about Dave
and a tear came to her eye as she suddenly realized she had made a huge mistake.
Dave would never force himself on her and what she had previously thought was
love and passion might just be Mark’s controlling personality focused on meeting
his needs.

His finger began rubbing her clit and her body betrayed her again as she moaned
in pleasure.  As he pulled her panties off, she kept telling herself that this
wasn’t right but her body continued to get very excited; when Mark pulled his
rock-hard erection from his pants, he easily slipped into her very wet pussy.

He pushed her ass onto the hard work surface as he began driving into her.  He
fucked her hard until he groaned loudly then released his juices deep inside
her.  After catching his breath he smiled at her and kissed her tenderly.  She
simply stared at him in disbelief.

She eventually told him she had to clean up so she pulled on her clothes then
went into the washroom.  After she used the toilet she simply sat there and
cried.  She was so confused about who she really wanted to be with.  Mark had
just forced her to have sex and she slowly got very angry.  After quickly
cleaning herself up, she stormed out of the bathroom.  Mark was sitting
contentedly in her chair and she growled at him.  “What the hell was that all
about?  I told you I wasn’t in the mood but you pushed it anyway.  I don’t like
to be treated as your sex toy.”

Mark was surprised by her words.  “I’m sorry, Jennifer.  I missed you a lot and I
just got excited seeing you in your dress clothes.”

Jennifer pulled him out of her seat and guided him to the front door.  “Well
you’ve had your little fun so it’s time to leave – I have a lot of work to do.”
Mark tried to apologize again but she pushed him out the door; after locking it,
she went back to her cubicle.  She put her head down on her desk and cried as she
continued to ask herself if she was making a mistake not accepting Dave’s
proposal.  Her phone rang several times but she ignored it and let it go to
voicemail.

For twenty minutes she tried to work but without any luck.  She finally decided
to call it a night.  She listened to her voicemail before she left – it was Mark
apologizing profusely and begging her to forgive him.  In the last message he
promised to call her the next day at work and asked her to go to dinner with him
the next night.

Jennifer went home and went to bed but she couldn’t sleep.  She kept thinking
about Dave and Mark and she continued to grow more confused as to what she should
do.

She spent most of Saturday working and the project became a good distraction.
Late in the afternoon she called Mark and agreed to go out to dinner with him.
After dinner they returned to her house and had a long talk.  They made up and
Mark spent the night with her.  When they woke Sunday morning they talked more
about her trip to QAI, but she didn’t tell Mark that Dave had proposed to her.
She didn’t know how Mark would feel and she still didn’t even know how she felt.
Mark asked if maybe Jana would want to spend some intimate time with him and
Jennifer instead, after the deal with Dave had fallen through.  Jennifer wasn’t
sure what she thought of that but she knew Jana was hoping it would happen so she
simply said, “We’ll see.”  She eventually cooked them breakfast before she went
back to work for a few hours.  When Jennifer left for the office, Mark said he
would meet her at the house around six o’clock.  Jennifer worked for the rest of
the morning until she got a call from Jana.  She said she would leave
immediately.

She locked the office and as she got in her car she thought about Dave again.
She thought about him the entire drive to Nova Scotia.  She had agreed to meet
them in Stellarton and she tried to think about what she would say to Dave.  In
the end she wasn’t exactly sure what she would say but she was desperately
looking forward to speaking to him.

When she pulled into the service station where they had agreed to meet, she saw
Dave’s family van.  She pulled up beside it and got out of her car with a nervous
excitement.  When the driver’s door of the van opened and Dave’s father, Roger,
got out, her heart sank.  Dave didn’t even want to see her.  He must have been so
angry with her that he couldn’t even face her.

Jana ran to her and hugged her excitedly before she helped Roger move her bags
into Jennifer’s car.  Jana and Kyra both hugged Roger goodbye and he told them to
have a safe trip home.  Roger saw the very sad look on Jennifer’s face and he
walked to her.  She smiled up at him as he hugged her.  She couldn’t help but cry
into his chest.  She started to say she was sorry but he cut her off and said he
would always love her like a daughter and that she was always welcome in his
home.  She thanked him before they got into their vehicles and went their
separate ways.

As soon as Jennifer was on the highway she asked, “Was Dave too angry to come see
me?”

Jana, who was sitting in the front seat, replied accurately, “He said he was
tired from his golf but that wasn’t the whole truth.  I don’t think he was angry
as much as he was sad.”

Jennifer nodded understandingly but didn’t speak.  After a moment’s pause she
asked, “How did he play?”

Jana explained, “It looks like he made the cut for the match play but his dad
said he could tell his focus was very poor – his mind was definitely not on his
game.”

Jennifer sniffed.  “I know how he feels.”

From the backseat, Kyra asked softly, “Are you okay?”

Jennifer looked into the rearview mirror at Kyra and nodded that she was;
although that was a lie, everyone accepted her statement.  The next hour of the
drive was very quiet; eventually Jennifer asked what Cape Breton was like and the
twins described how beautiful it was.  That seemed to open up the conversation
again and the last ninety minutes passed quickly.  Just before they reached
Charlestown, Jana asked, “So, are we going to have some fun with Mark tonight?”

Jennifer hesitated before she replied, “I don’t know.  I’m not sure if I really
like the idea anymore.”

But Jana wouldn’t let it go and convinced Jennifer to do it.  Jennifer could see
that Kyra was getting very angry in the back seat but didn’t know why.  When they
arrived at the house, Mark’s car was in the driveway.  As Jennifer walked into
the house she didn’t notice the twins drop behind and start talking.  She found
Mark sitting in the living room and he stood and kissed her.  He asked how the
trip was and she said it was fine.

Jana strolled in a moment later and she moved next to Mark.  Mark hugged her and
then kissed her softly on the lips.  Jana seemed to enjoy it and, while Jennifer
wasn’t expecting any sex to begin immediately, she didn’t really mind the kiss.
Mark then pulled Jana onto the couch next to him and began rubbing his hand on
her thigh.  Jennifer heard Kyra enter the room and she immediately saw a very
angry look on Kyra’s face.  Mark made to get up and move towards her when Kyra
said, “Don’t bother getting up, Mark.  I’m just going to my room to pack.”  She
then glared at Jana and said, “You know you shouldn’t do this.”  Jana simply
glared at Kyra who added, “Fine, I’ll see you later then.”

As soon as Kyra left the room Jennifer asked, “What was that all about?”

Jana looked a little sheepish as she replied, “Kyra’s mad because Dave said he
didn’t want me to have sex with you and Mark.”

Jennifer was surprised to hear what Jana said, but before she could say anything,
Mark blurted out, “What a fucking hypocrite.  Jennifer, didn’t you tell me that
he was screwing his English Princess?  What?  He can fuck around but Jana can’t?”

Jennifer immediately wanted to defend Dave but Jana looked at her and asked,
“Don’t you think Dave is being unfair?”

Jennifer looked at the pleading eyes of her very close friend, the same friend
who had stood by her the entire week.  Jennifer simply nodded but deep down she
knew it was wrong for them to get intimate together.

She barely heard Mark say, “Jana, go over and kiss Jennifer.  I want to watch you
two make love, it’ll be a real turn-on for me.”

Jennifer’s body almost felt numb as Jana moved into her arms and kissed her.
Jana’s familiar lips felt very soft but Jennifer kept thinking about Dave and how
angry he was going to be.

The next hour was a blur.  She vaguely remembered making love to Jana and
spreading her thighs to Mark and watching Mark with Jana.  Jennifer remembered
the many times she had slept with Dave and different women and this didn’t feel
anything like those special times.  There had always been a deep love for each
other in those sessions but this didn’t seem right.  She watched as Mark fucked
Jana and, although they were both clearly enjoying it, there were obviously no
true feelings involved – it was just physical sex.

Jennifer felt a tear come to her eye – she finally realized she had definitely
made a big mistake.  She should have told Dave she wanted to be with him – but
now it was too late.  Dave would be furious about Jana fucking Mark and Jennifer
was all to blame.  If she had agreed to be with Dave then this would not have
happened.  Dave would hate her forever for this.

Jana and Mark both climaxed together then collapsed on the couch.  Jennifer
explained that she was going to make a late dinner and, after she pulled her
clothes back on, she left the room.  When she got to the kitchen she cried and
cried.  In the last week she had rejected Dave and now she had chased him out of
her life forever by allowing Jana to talk her into a three-way with Mark.  Dave
would never, ever forgive her for this.

She tried to think of a solution – maybe if she called Dave and apologized?  No,
he would be even angrier when he found out she had led Jana into Marks arms.  She
finally wiped her eyes and started making something for dinner.  After a few
minutes Kyra came into the kitchen and Jennifer looked into her angry eyes.
Jennifer simply said, “Dave’s going to be furious.  Isn’t he?”

Kyra whispered softly, “He’s going to be devastated.  He begged Jana not to do
this but she wouldn’t listen.  I’m the one who is furious.”

Jennifer began crying again, “I’m sorry, Kyra; I know I should have stopped it
but …”

Kyra rushed to Jennifer and hugged her.  “I’m not mad at you.  I’m mad at Jana;
she knows better.  She knows that open relationships can only work if there is
trust and by going against Dave’s wishes, she has destroyed their relationship.
You had nothing to do with her decision; she’s old enough to make her own
choices.”

Jennifer asked softly, “Do you think Dave could ever forgive me?”

Kyra looked into her eyes, “Dave is really hurt right now and this will make it
even worse, but I know he loves you very deeply.  You will have to give him some
time.”

Jennifer nodded dejectedly then resumed preparing the food.  With Kyra’s help,
Jennifer prepared a nice meal.  Jana and Mark eventually strolled smiling smugly
into the kitchen and the four of them ate.  Kyra never said two words during the
meal and after they all finished Jennifer asked Mark if she could spend the night
alone with the twins.  Mark wanted to stay but he realized by Kyra’s silence
during dinner that she wasn’t going to let him have sex with her, so he left.

After he was gone Kyra started right in on Jana.  “Jana, you’re a selfish bitch.
Dave asked you not to fuck Mark but you did anyway.”

Jana growled back, “I didn’t object when Dave slept with Danielle, Sheri, or
Sarah so he had no right to tell me I couldn’t sleep with Mark.”

Kyra was about to let into Jana again but Jennifer started to cry and Jana rushed
to her side.  Kyra finally relented and said softly, “Jana, you take her up to
bed and I’ll clean up here and join you shortly.”

Jana helped Jennifer up to her room and after she stripped her naked she lay her
down on her queen sized bed.  Jana then stripped and cuddled into her – Jennifer
was happy to have her friend’s soft body to hold on to.  Eventually Kyra joined
them and Jennifer noticed that Kyra climbed in next to her, avoiding her sister,
and cuddled into Jennifer’s other side.  Jennifer eventually fell asleep thinking
about Dave and the huge mistake she had made.

Jennifer drove the twins to the airport the next morning and after their
heartfelt goodbyes she went to work.  She finished her revisions on the project
just before noon when the phone rang.  She was happy to hear her father’s voice
and he invited her out to lunch.  She happily accepted.

She enjoyed her time with her father and they talked extensively about her
relationships.  She explained what she loved about both Dave and Mark and then
asked her father who he thought she should be with.  Her father simply smiled and
replied, “Jennifer, you make me proud everyday.  You have matured into a
beautiful, intelligent woman.  I can’t and won’t make that decision for you, but
I will stand behind you completely in whatever you decide.  I love you,
Jennifer.”  Jennifer appreciated her father’s praise; having gotten exactly the
same response from each of her parents, she knew it truly was her important
decision to make.

The rest of the week went fairly well.  She completed several more revisions on
the project and it was completed on time.  Mark was busy at his job so they
didn’t have much time for each other.  She started a new project on Wednesday and
was looking forward to working more closely with the clients as her boss had
asked her to sit in on the preliminary meetings with them.

That same day she saw the headline in the local paper which read ‘British Open
Champion Loses Third Round Match.’  She read the article and learned that Dave
had been eliminated and she suspected that his disappointing finish was partly
her fault.  She knew he was leaving for Wake Forest on Friday and she debated
going to see him but thought, ‘What if he asked about Jana and Mark?’  She had no
right to tell him about that.  She was also afraid he would still be angry with
her – so she simply re-immersed herself in her job.

She logged onto her computer at home on Saturday evening and was happy to see an
e-mail from Dave.  The title was ‘This is how I feel’ but there was no further
message, only an mp3 file.  She saved the file to her hard drive before she
played it.  Kelly Clarkson’s song began to play and as she listened to the words
she began to cry.  She was shocked when she heard the song line “For hating you I
blame myself” and she wondered if Dave really hated her.  She considered sending
Dave a message but instead sent one to Jana and asked her if she had talked to
Dave.  She didn’t get a reply until late on Sunday and Jana said she was avoiding
Dave because she didn’t want to speak to him about what happened with Mark.

For the last two weeks of her summer vacation she spent more time at work than
anywhere else.  Mark asked her why she was working so hard and she blithely
explained that she had to finish all her projects before she went back to
University.  The fact was she didn’t want to spend too much time with him.  He
had several times talked excitedly about the adventure of sleeping with Jana and
wanted to try it again with another girl.  Jennifer wasn’t sure if she wanted it
to become a regular occurrence but he obviously did.  She was also trying to stay
busy so she didn’t have to think about Dave.  She kept telling herself that she
did the right thing and that Mark loved her and that time would help heal the
wounds.  She had a hard time convincing herself though as she would go through
times of complete depression over the loss of Dave.  She debated calling him
everyday but couldn’t do it.

She got a frantic call from Jana the Saturday night before she went back to
school.  Jana explained that Dave figured out what happened with Mark and that he
had kicked her out of his apartment – he said he never wanted to see her again.
Jennifer said she was sorry, but deep inside she knew Dave very well and knew
that was going to be his reaction.  She told Jana to give him some to time cool
off.  Jana asked her to call him and speak to him and Jennifer promised she would
call later in the week.

She moved back to university on Labour Day after spending an intimate albeit
somewhat unsatisfying night with Mark at his apartment.  His roommate, Max was
due to arrive the next day and Mark was looking forward to his second year at the
University of Charlestown.  The previous year Jennifer hadn’t been sure if she
was happy that Mark went to a different university but this year she was looking
forward to getting back to the University of New Dominion and away from Mark.
The ninety-minute drive to her university was filled with thoughts about Dave.
She kept hearing Kelly Clarkson’s song ‘Behind These Hazel Eyes’ on the radio and
she would cry each time as she thought about Dave being so torn apart about her.

She moved into her dorm and was happy to see her new roommate, Shelly Palmer.
They were friendly classmates from the previous year and had agreed to share a
dorm room in their second year.  Jennifer got unpacked and settled into her
room.  She thought about calling Dave but put it off for another day.  She and
Shelly talked about their summers and Jennifer confessed what happened with
Dave.  Shelly sympathized with her and told her to move forward with Mark.

She finally got enough nerve to call Dave on Thursday night.  The conversation
with Dave went very poorly.  She didn’t expect him to criticize her for calling
him a hypocrite.  She had never actual said that.  When he said that she had been
the one who cheated on him with Alex, she knew he was right.  They had had
several mutually agreeable relationships but he had never cheated on her while
they were together.  It broke her heart to hear him so angry at her and she
decided that he probably did hate her and would for a long time.  She finally
apologized and hung up.  She cried herself to sleep that night and even Shelly
couldn’t console her.

Classes that week went very poorly as she couldn’t get Dave off her mind.  That
damned Kelly Clarkson song kept playing on the radio and she couldn’t seem to
escape it.  When she read in the newspaper that Dave didn’t make the cut at the
Canadian Open she was even more upset – she blamed herself for screwing him up,
again.

She didn’t go home that weekend because she didn’t really want to see Mark.  She
tried to study but her concentration was very poor and she couldn’t think about
anything but Dave.  She struggled through classes on Monday and was sitting in
her room sulking when Shelly showed her the newest National Enquirer.  There was
a new picture of Dave and Hilary Duff with an article about them going to a party
together in Los Angeles.  Jennifer cried herself to sleep that night as she
thought she had truly lost Dave forever.

Over the next month she continued to correspond with Jana by e-mail but Jana and
Dave’s relationship had not improved and Jana was very bitter toward Dave.
Jennifer sent a few e-mails to Kyra and was disappointed to find out Jana had
forced Kyra to end her relationship with Dave as well.  Jennifer tried to
convince Jana not to punish Kyra for their mistake but Jana only got angry at
Jennifer.

Jennifer’s mid-term exams went very poorly and her relationship with Mark
continued to worsen.  She maintained her correspondence with Jana and was sad to
hear the bad rumors about Dave – he was acting like an arrogant jock and he had
begun treating women very poorly.

Jennifer went home for a weekend in mid October and went to Mark’s apartment.
When she got there, Mark had another girl in his room with him and tried to
convince Jennifer to join them.  Jennifer said she didn’t even know the girl and
had no interest in being in bed with a total stranger.  She stormed out of the
apartment after calling Mark some nasty names.

She returned home very upset and her mother tried to console her.  Jennifer
confessed, “I’m miserable, Mom.  Mark has been pressuring me to bring other women
into our bed but I have put him off.  I caught him in bed with a strange girl
tonight and I stormed out of his apartment but the truth is I’m more worried
about Dave.  Kyra says he has not been acting like himself and he’s been drinking
a lot.  I’m mad at Mark but I’m scared for Dave.  I want to fly down and see Dave
but I don’t think he wants to see me.”

Heather held her tight as she explained, “If you want to see Dave, I will pay for
your ticket to fly down there and see him, but make sure you are doing it for the
right reason – because you love and care for him.  Don’t do it because you want
to punish Mark.  If you don’t want to fly down you can always call him.”

Jennifer looked intently into her mother’s eyes.  “I think I picked the wrong
one.”

Heather patted her on the back.  “Don’t look back at what you did in the past.
Look forward to what you want to do in the future.  Do you still love Mark?  Do
you still want to spend your future with him?  Do you still love Dave?  Would you
rather spend your future with him?  Think carefully what you want to do then put
all your efforts into making it happen.”

Jennifer leaned against her mother and thought about who she wanted to be with.
Most of her wanted to be with Dave but she felt guilty over the Jana-Mark
incident and she didn’t think Dave would forgive her.  She thanked her mom for
her advice before she went up to her room.  She thought more about Mark and the
strange girl in his bed.  She finally decided to call Dave.  She dialed his cell
number and as it rang her heart was in her throat.  She heard Dave answer the
phone and music blared through the earpiece in her phone.  She could hear talking
and realized it was Dave’s voice almost downed out by the music.  She heard him
say, “Yeah, baby, you look gorgeous.  That’s it, dance for me, honey.  Wait
second – I need to answer this call.  Hello??”

Jennifer could tell Dave’s voice was slurred and he was obviously at bar with
some girl.  Jennifer panicked and hung up the phone without saying a word to
him.  She thought about Kyra’s e-mail and she cried even harder as she thought
about Dave throwing his dream away.  She considered calling his parents to tell
them but didn’t.  Deep down she knew Alec would keep an eye on Dave.  She
eventually cried herself to sleep as she thought about Dave.

Mark called her the next day and they had a big fight.  She yelled at him, “You
cheated on me, you son of a bitch!”

He replied, “I was hoping you would join us.  You’re the one who started this
open relationship by spending time with the twins and you didn’t seem to object
when we slept with Jana.”

Jennifer was surprised that Mark would throw the twins in her face and she
retorted, “That may be true but you knew I was going to spend some time with them
before they arrived and if you had said no then I wouldn’t have done it.  This
time you just picked up a stranger and expected me to hop in the sack with both
of you.  I won’t sleep with just anyone and I don’t want a relationship where you
treat me as simply a sex toy.”

Mark quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, Jennifer.  I promise I will never do
anything without first getting your permission.  Please let me come over so we
can talk this out.”

Jennifer was happy to hear his apology and she eventually agreed to let him come
over.  They spent the balance of the day together which included him taking her
to a restaurant for dinner.  He invited her back to his apartment but she refused
and made him take her home.  She left early on Sunday to go back to UND.  She
wrote her midterms that week and they didn’t go very well because she was too
upset about both Dave and Mark to concentrate on her studies.

Her studies and her relationship with Mark continued to struggle along and in
November Mark convinced her to join him in bed with another girl she had never
met before; she did not have an especially good time and mostly confirmed in her
mind that the casual sex with strangers was not nearly as enjoyable as the
intimate sex she had with women she knew and cared for.  The creeping worry about
the possibility of sexually transmitted disease did not help. She got an e-mail
from Jana explaining that Dave had seemed to straighten out his poor behavior and
that Kyra was again spending some time with him, as friends and classmates.  He
had also started dating a new girl and it looked as if that was getting very
serious.  Jennifer was a little jealous that Dave seemed to be moving on while
she was stuck with a partner who wanted to move in directions she found
unattractive, but she was happy that Dave was starting to return to his old self.

She wrote her final exams in early December and managed to get a little more
focused; she passed all her courses, but her marks were quite low with only one
over eighty, three in the seventies, and one in the sixties.  The previous year
her worst mark had been an eighty-five.

Her relationship with Mark continued to be distant as they seemed to be going
along divergent paths.  He continually wanted to bring new women into their bed
and she began to feel sexually inadequate.  Her self-confidence continued to
decline and even her parents noticed her depressed mood.

Several days after Christmas, she was pleased when her mother gave her an excuse
to cancel a date with Mark, so mother and daughter could spend an evening
together.  She was in her room, upstairs getting ready when she heard a faint
knock at the front door.  After a moment she heard the door slam so she curiously
walked towards the top of the steps.  She peered down the stairs and tears rushed
to her eyes as she saw Dave standing there.  She heard him say, “Hi, Jennifer.
Can we talk?”

She didn’t remember touching a single step as she flew down the stairs and into
his arms.  Her first thought was he was back to ask her to be with him again –
she would definitely say yes this time.  She hugged him and tried to apologize
but he cut her off.  She followed him to the couch and listened intently as he
explained how much he loved her.  She cried even more when he asked to be her
friend again.  She hugged him close and said she really wanted that too.  She
knew that if he had asked her to marry him she would dump Mark instantly but he
only seemed to want friendship and that was enough for now.  She explained how
she had been torn apart without him and how sorry she was.  He said they should
move forward and she was simply happy to be in his big strong arms again.

She sheepishly asked, “I hear you have a new girlfriend, is it serious?”

Dave nodded.  “Yes, it’s pretty serious.  I went to her home in New Mexico and
her family is incredible.  They own a ranch and I got to ride horses and help
with the ranch work.  It was physically hard but very satisfying.  I loved riding
through the open fields and that is where I decided to mend all my fences with
you and the twins.  Alec has been a great friend and I finally heard what he has
been telling me for months.  I need to think before I let my emotions make bad
decisions.”

Jennifer had her head lying on Dave’s chest as she stared up at him.  As he
described the ranch she could see the joy in his face but she wondered why he
wasn’t talking about Anne.  When he finished speaking she asked, “Her family
sounds really nice but what about her?”

Dave looked into Jennifer’s eyes and sensing she wanted him to talk about Anne he
said, “She’s very pretty and has recently gone through a tough breakup as well.
She’s easy to talk to and I care for her very deeply.”

The comment about a recent breakup really hurt Jennifer and she got mad at
herself for not accepting his proposal.  She instantly hated Anne for being with
Dave.  She pictured her as some evil witch that she had to save Dave from.  She
was distracted when Dave asked, “How are things with Mark?”

She quickly recovered and she lied, “Pretty good.  We’ve both been busy with
school but we spend as much time as we can together.”  She thought how Mark was
the only reason she wasn’t with Dave instead of Anne and she started to get angry
at Mark.

Their conversation switched to school and she was happy to move away from the
talk about relationships.  They spent the entire evening talking and she couldn’t
believe how relieved she felt just spending quality time with Dave.  She was
confident that she could now move on with her life.  When she opened the gift
that read friends forever she cried and kissed him softly.  She quickly added it
to her chain that Dave had given her previously.  She promised not to tell Jana
and Kyra that he would be having a similar discussion with them but she knew that
Jana would be relieved to put all this behind her as well.

Her parents arrived home before long and when her father invited Dave to stay the
night Jennifer was already planning a midnight visit to the bed of her reinstated
best friend.  Dave – unfortunately – declined and, while she was disappointed,
she could understand why.  Especially when she saw the bulge in his pants – she
almost squealed out loud as she guessed that Dave was having the same thoughts as
her and it was exciting him.

She walked him to the door and told him she loved him.  He repeated her words and
promised to send lots of e-mail.  She kissed him goodbye and after his car pulled
down the street, she rushed into the living room and hugged her parents.  She
could tell they were both very happy for her.

She thought about her relationships a lot that night and decided to dedicate more
time to Mark.  They had had a very good relationship before the summer and maybe
she was partly to blame because she was too distracted by Dave’s proposal.  The
next day she had a long discussion with Mark and she expressed her concerns about
their open relationship and their intimate one.  They agreed to concentrate on
their intimate relationship first.

They had a very enjoyable New Years and Jennifer felt they were moving back
towards the old love they had for each other.  She returned to university but
made sure she came home the first three weekends to be with Mark.

She traded excited e-mails with Jana and Kyra who were both very pleased to have
Dave back in their lives.  They both relayed that Dave was back as a friend but
wouldn’t make love with them because of his commitment to Anne.  They both missed
the intimate times with Dave but were happy to have him as a friend again.
Jennifer’s concentration in class improved significantly and she could feel her
old confident happy self return.  She traded e-mails with Dave at least once a
week.

The winter was going well until the middle of March when Mark again started
suggesting they bring someone new into their relationship.  Jennifer tried to
maintain an open mind and they went out to a bar together to find an acceptable
third person.  They both noticed a pretty red-head and agreed to strike up a
conversation with her.  Jennifer expected the girl to reject the idea of a
threesome but surprisingly she found Jennifer attractive and agreed to go back to
Mark’s apartment with them.  They made love for hours and Jennifer actually
enjoyed being with a woman again.  Mark seemed extremely pleased that Jennifer
was willing to try new things and suggested maybe they try a swap with his
roommate, Max.  Jennifer didn’t like that idea and told Mark so.  He told her to
keep an open mind but she explicitly told him that, although she didn’t mind
spending some time with a mutually agreeable woman, she had zero interest in
sleeping with another guy, especially Max.  Jennifer had no feelings for Max and
had never felt any attraction to her lover’s room-mate.

Over the next two weeks Mark continued to try to convince her to swap with Max
and his girlfriend but she sternly refused.  The first weekend in April she was
staying with Mark at his apartment and had fallen asleep when she suddenly felt
Mark kissing his way down her body.  His mouth felt hot and inviting as he sucked
her nipples.  He unexpectedly bit one of her nipples as he slid a finger deep
inside her.  He was much rougher than usual so she glanced down at him.  She
screamed as she immediately knew that it was not Mark on top of her.  Max jumped
in fright as she pushed him out of the bed and yelled, “Get the fuck out of this
room!”

As soon as he was out of the room, she jumped out of bed, turned on the light,
and pulled on her clothes.  She was just reaching for the doorknob when Mark
opened the door.  She yelled at him, “You son-of-a-bitch!  I told you I didn’t
want to fuck another guy but you tried to make me do it anyway.”  She pulled off
her diamond ring and threw it at him as she cried, “I don’t want to marry you,
Mark.  I don’t ever want to see you again.”

He pleaded, “Please, Jennifer, I’m sorry.  I’ll never do it again.  I just
thought it would be fun to try different partners.  Max really wanted to sleep
with you and I wanted to sleep with his girlfriend.  I won’t do it again.”

Jennifer scowled at him, “Or at least not until another one of your buddies wants
to fuck me.  I’m not a fuck toy you can pass around to all your friends.  You
seem to want someone to pimp around – I don’t want a relationship like that and I
don’t want to be with someone who does.  You’ve had the last of your chances
already.  Goodbye, Mark.”  She pushed her way past him and out the front door to
the apartment.

Her mother heard her come in and went to check on her.  As soon as she saw
Jennifer’s tear-filled eyes she rushed to her and hugged her.  She eventually
asked, “What happened, Jennifer?”

Jennifer explained, “For the last few weeks Mark has been pressuring me to swap
partners with his roommate, but I refused.  Mark and I fell asleep together
tonight but I was awakened by someone making love to me.  It turned out Mark had
traded rooms with Max without my consent.  I immediately kicked Max out of my
room then Mark and I had a big fight.  I threw his ring at him.  It’s over.”

Heather hugged her daughter even tighter.  “I love you, Jennifer.  I’m so sorry
that happened to you.”

Jennifer cried on her mother’s shoulder.  “I’ve made a horrible mistake, Mom.  I
should have told Dave I wanted to be with him but I didn’t want to hurt Mark.  I
thought I loved Mark but now I know I was definitely wrong.  I was such a moron.
Mark is history; I can’t think about ever going back with him.  How will I ever
get Dave back?”

Heather soothed her daughter.  “I know Dave and I know he loves you.  Don’t
worry; you’ll be back in his arms where you belong, someday soon.”

Jennifer tried to think of how she could tell Dave she had finally come to her
senses.  She wanted to just call him and ask him to leave Anne for her but that
was what he had done the previous year to her and that definitely didn’t work for
him – it probably would not work for her either.  She decided to tell Jana what
happened and ask her to talk to Dave.  As her mother held her she was already
composing an e-mail to Jana in her head.

Jennifer sent a message to Jana the next morning and asked her to tell Dave that
she and Mark were finished.  Jana replied later in the day and said Dave was at a
golf tournament then was going directly to the Masters; since she and Kyra were
going to go watch him play, she would be able to tell him what happened.
Jennifer was very pleased and felt better immediately.

Mark visited her several times over the weekend for an attempted reconciliation
and they talked for over an hour each time, but she repeatedly told him they
obviously weren’t compatible and they both should move on.  With each meeting,
Jennifer’s resolve to forget about Mark intensified as he made the same tired
points again and again.  It was now clear to Jennifer that Mark would apologize
and promise but never actually abandon pushing her to do what he wanted.  Mark
got mad and tried to somehow blame Dave; at that point she told him Dave had
nothing to do with it – then she kicked him out of the house.

She was happy to go back to the university on Sunday and she had a long talk with
Shelly.  Classes went by quickly that week and she soon realized that she didn’t
miss Mark nearly as much as she had expected.  She was studying in her room
Wednesday evening when her phone rang.  Shelly answered the phone and Jennifer
heard her say, “Yes, she’s studying… oh, okay, just a minute.”  Shelly was
smiling as she passed Jennifer the phone – Jennifer looked at her questioningly
but didn’t get a reply.

Jennifer took the phone and said, “Hello?”

She started to cry as she heard Dave’s calm voice, “Mom just told me you and Mark
split up.  Are you okay?  Do you want me to fly there to see you?  I’m sure I
could get a flight in the morning.”

Jennifer’s mind raced and she wanted to tell him yes but she suddenly realized he
was supposed to start the Masters tomorrow.  Another overwhelming realization
came to her – he really was willing to give up his golf for her.  Her heart
jumped as she realized there was definitely hope of getting him back.  She
composed herself as she replied, “I feel much better just hearing your voice.
I’m okay; you don’t need to fly up here to my rescue.”  A small joke came to her
mind and she chuckled as she whispered, “No, you don’t need to find a phone booth
to change into your blue tights and red cape.”

Dave was very happy to hear her little joke and replied, “Maybe you could fly
down in your invisible jet and see me then.”  Jennifer laughed out loud and she
was certain it was the first time she had laughed since the breakup with Mark.
Dave continued, “Seriously, do you want me to come see you?”

Jennifer became serious, “No, as I said, I’m much better now just hearing your
voice.  I’m a little sad and relieved at the same time; the relief is getting
stronger as time passes.”  She wanted to ask him to leave Anne and be with her.
But how could she do that when she wouldn’t do the same thing for him the
previous summer?  She slowly asked instead, “When are you coming home?  I would
definitely like to spend some time with you then.”

He explained, “The next two months are crazy.  I have the ACC tournament next
week then three weeks off from golf to catch up on my classes, then the NCAA
Regional tournament, then hopefully the NCAA Finals.  The week after that I’m
turning pro, as I told you in my last e-mail, and then I have the US Open the
week after that so I’m not planning on going home until the first week of July.
But if you need me I can fly home whenever you want.”  Jennifer was disappointed
to have to wait almost three months and Dave could tell by her sigh.  He
continued, “I promise I’ll call you every week so we can simply talk, is that
okay?”

She finally replied, “I’d like that.  I love you, Dave – and I really miss you.”

He whispered, “I love you too, Jennifer.”

Jennifer hung up the phone and yelled to Shelly, “He loves me.  He was ready to
drop out of one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world to be with me.”

Shelly moved onto her bed and hugged her.  They talked for over an hour before
Jennifer finally fell asleep.  She spent the rest of the week watching the
television intently as Dave played in the Masters.  She growled at the television
when Dave wasn’t playing well and she jumped up and down cheering when Dave
pulled ahead of Tiger on the next-to-last hole.  She called Phil Mickelson
terrible names when he made the winning shot on the last hole and she cursed
Dave’s ball for not dropping in the hole on the final green.  Shelly thought she
had gone absolutely nuts but she could see Jennifer was happier than she had ever
seen her.

Dave called from the locker room after his final round and Jennifer was happy he
was thinking about her.  He called every week for the next two months.  They
talked about his tournaments and about the women’s team.  Jennifer was very proud
of what he had done to help his new friends.  She never asked him about leaving
Anne because he never talked about her at all – she was simply happy to have her
best friend back in her life.  She knew she could win him over when he returned
in July and they were within touching range.

She finished her second year at UND and returned to her architecture job.  Her
boss was happy to have her back and she was equally happy to be back.  Dave’s
phone calls continued on a weekly basis and she was disappointed to hear he came
in second for the NCAA individual title, but like the old Dave she loved, he was
happier for his teammate Darcy than he was upset for himself.  He told her he was
nervous about turning pro but was convinced that he was definitely ready.  She
said he would make QAI, his friends, and his family very proud.

She waited to hear how his meetings went with the agent who he had planned to
meet on Monday but she never heard from him that night.  She was sure he would
call the next night but he didn’t and she began to worry that things had not gone
well.  When she didn’t hear from him on Wednesday, she took the initiative and
called.  Alec answered Dave’s phone and explained that Dave was practicing but
Dave had asked him to tell her he would call her later in the week.  Alec
confided that Dave had really good news but he wanted to tell her himself.

Jennifer waited anxiously all week but still no call from Dave.  She was worried
about Dave but she tried to think positively.  She was reading through ‘The
Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture’ in her living room on Saturday
when her mother called her to answer the door.  She thought it strange that she
hadn’t heard anyone knock but she set her book down, got up, and walked towards
the front door.  As soon as she turned the corner she saw Dave standing in the
doorway.  The bright sunlight framed his muscular body and she saw him holding
something in his hand as he dropped to one knee.  He was wearing a pair of navy
dress pants and an aqua golf shirt with a prominent Adidas logo on the left
breast.  She focused her attention on the black velvet box as she suddenly
realized why he was dropping to one knee.  Her heart and mind raced as tears
began to pour out of her eyes.  He was proposing to her!  Butterflies the size of
eagles flapped around in her stomach as her thoughts screamed in excitement, “He
loves me!  He wants to be with me forever!  He really loves me!”

She heard him say, “I really missed you and I need you in my life forever. Will
you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”  She noticed tears
running down his cheeks as she ran down the hall and into his arms.

As they fell together onto the hard tile floor she quickly replied, “I love you,
Dave MacDonald, and, yes, yes, YES! I will marry you.”  She had dreamed of this
moment since Dave had called her in April and now it was finally coming true.
She had him pinned beneath her and she wanted to rip his clothes off and make
love to him right now.  She pressed her breasts into his chest as he smiled up at
her.

She heard him say, “I love you, Jennifer Samms. I love you with all my heart.”

She kissed him passionately and his soft lips felt so nice on hers.  She suddenly
heard a gasp from behind her and realized her mother was watching them together
on the floor.  She turned back to Dave and stared into his beautiful eyes as the
image of her soul-mate was forever imprinted in her thoughts.  He opened the
velvet box; she was shocked to see a spectacular ring glimmering in the light
still flowing in the front door.  As he slipped the ring on her hand she was
again surprised that it fit perfectly.

Her emotions raced again as a hundred thoughts came to mind.  “I didn't think you
were coming home for another month?  I've wanted you to come early but I was too
afraid to ask because I knew you had a girlfriend and Jana said you refused to
let her talk about me. She wanted to find out how you felt about me because I
realized you are the only man for me. I knew it last year but wouldn't face it,
but when you came home at Christmas and were so nice I finally realized I had to
have you in my life. But you said you had moved on and I was very disappointed.
When you called me in April I wanted to ask you to come home immediately but I
couldn't make you miss the Masters. I'm so happy your mother told you about Mark
and me breaking up.”

Dave smiled before he replied, “I know; I was very surprised and pleased. But I
was also worried about you.”

Jennifer thought about Ann and she whispered, “What about Anne?”

He looked at her sadly. “Anne is a nice girl but I eventually concluded she loved
my money and my earning potential more than she did me. I had already realized it
was a problem before Mom told me about you but I took some time to think about
the whole situation before I made a decision. I didn't want to rush into
something without thoroughly considering all options. That is also why I wouldn't
let Jana talk to me about you – the decision had to be mine and mine alone.”

“When did you tell her?”

He explained, “I flew to New Mexico last week after the NCAA Championships.  Anne
and I had talked on the phone several times since she had left Wake Forest and
she knew that we were probably going to break up but I had to do it in person.”

Jennifer stared at the ring, amazed how large the main diamond was and the
diamond on each side made the entire setting look exquisite.  The ring was truly
spectacular and she said, “This looks to be very expensive. You know I don't need
a ring like this.”  She knew deep in heart that as long as the ring came from
Dave, it could be made of plastic and she would be just as happy.

He softly said, “I know you don't care about the cost but I wanted something very
special for you. You know that I have dreamed of being one of the best golfers in
the world since I was very young and I think I have almost accomplished that.
What you don't know is that I have dreamed of putting a ring on your finger since
the first summer we were intimate with each other. This ring shows how important
that dream is to me. I love you, Jennifer, and look forward to spending the rest
of my life with you.”

She quickly replied, “I love you too, Dave, and had dreamed that I would marry
you someday too.  Thank you for being patient with me.”

He kissed her passionately before he whispered, “Last summer is in the past; we
are together now and that’s all that matters.”

Jennifer finally realized that she was pressing Dave on the hard floor so she got
off of him then, after he stood as well, she guided him to the kitchen where her
mother was having an intense telephone conversation with Dave’s mother.  Jennifer
proudly put her hand in front of her mother’s face and Heather gasped when she
saw the exceptional ring and blurted out, “Oh my God, it’s huge!  Oh, Carol, the
ring is truly beautiful.”

Jennifer gently pulled the phone from her mother so she could speak to Carol
directly.  “Thank you, Carol, for telling Dave about the news Mark and I had
broken up.  I’ve never been so happy.”

Carol chuckled.  “I’m really happy for you, dear, and welcome to the family.”

Dave took the phone next.  “Hi, Mom.  Thanks for helping set everything up.
Jennifer and I are going to stay at the trailer tonight, okay?”

“That’s fine, honey, but please drop by the house so we can see this incredible
rock.”

Dave replied, “It will probably be a while before we get to the Island so we’re
going directly to the trailer, but we’ll stop by in the morning for sure.”  Dave
was looking at Jennifer as he spoke, hoping she would be agreeable to staying at
the trailer.  He was rewarded with a huge smile and nod from her as she whole
heartedly agreed.  He finished with, “See you tomorrow, Mom.  I love you.”

After he heard his mother repeat that she loved him, he passed the phone back to
Heather who squealed excitedly into the phone.  “They’re finally together,
Carol.  I’m so happy for them.”

Dave and Jennifer turned to see her father standing in the doorway.  Ron smiled
as Jennifer ran to him and hugged him.  She showed him the ring and Ron beamed
with pride.  Dave walked to him and shook his hand as Ron said, “Make sure you
take good care of my precious little girl.”

Dave nodded.  “I promise, Sir.”

Ron chuckled, “I know you will, Dave.  Welcome to the family.”

Jennifer then guided Dave to the living room and they cuddled together on the
couch.  She said, “So tell me everything that happened in New York.”

Dave explained in detail about the negotiations with his agent and about the
contracts he signed the previous day.  He described meeting the representatives
from the different companies and how happy they were to have him endorse their
products.  He then showed Jennifer the cheque for his uncle Alan and, when he
told her that $12,220,000 had been deposited into his bank account, she gasped in
surprise.  He quickly said, “We will never have to worry about money.  Dad is
booking appointments with an accountant and an investment councilor.  We will go
see them together when we get back from the US Open.  We also have to go to the
bank and get a joint bank account setup; everything will be in both our names.”

Jennifer shook her head.  “I don’t think we should do that until after we’re
married.”

Dave kissed her before he replied, “I’d like to share everything from this moment
forward.  I think of us as partners and you should be involved in every decision
I make.  But if you want to put that off for a while then we need to at least set
up a common account to pay our bills when we go to college next year.  I was
thinking we could rent an apartment close to UND and, while I won’t be there as
much as I’d like, I will be there every second weekend.  I was thinking I would
play in tournaments every second week and go to school every other week.  That
would allow me to fly home the weekend I’m not in a tournament.  What do you
think?”

Jennifer kissed him excitedly.  “That sounds fantastic.  I didn’t expect to see
you that often but I knew you only have one more year at Wake Forest so we’ll be
together lots after next spring.”

Ron and Heather soon joined them in the living room and Dave described his the
previous week in New York.  Both Ron and Heather were surprised and pleased to
hear about his contracts.  They both looked at him with pride as he and Jennifer
described their plan for the next winter.  Jennifer went to her room to pack for
the trip to the US Open and Dave told her to only pack two outfits as they would
have to buy her a new wardrobe of Adidas clothes.  He thought his fiancée should
wear his sponsor’s clothes as well.  Jennifer smiled before she ran upstairs.
Heather followed close behind as Ron rolled his eyes and said, “You’ll be lucky
to see her within a half hour.”

Ron actually looked surprised when they reappeared in fifteen minutes.
Jennifer’s parents told them to have a good trip and wished Dave luck.  Dave and
Jennifer got in his rented car and headed for QAI.  The sun was setting behind
them as they made their way east.  Jennifer eventually asked if she could use
Dave’s phone to call Jana and Kyra.  She dialed the number and Jana answered.
“Hello?”

Jennifer fought off the urge to blurt out that Dave proposed to her.  She quickly
decided to tease Jana a little.  Jennifer made her voice sound sad as she said,
“Hi, Jana, how are you?”

They had exchanged e-mails the previous night and Jana knew Jennifer had not
heard from Dave all week.  Jana blurted out, “Did you hear from him?  What’s
going on?”

Dave chuckled quietly as he heard Jennifer act very sad and say, “Yes, I spoke to
him a few moments ago and he’s engaged.”

Even Dave could hear Jana scream, “What? He’s fucking engaged?  How could he
propose to that gold-digging bitch?  Jesus Christ, he’s lost his fucking mind
again.  I’m going to call the stupid son of a bitch and give him hell.”

Jennifer chuckled, “Here, you can talk to him now!”  Jennifer heard a loud huhhh
before she passed the phone to Dave.

Dave only had a chance to say, “Hi, Jana” before Jennifer pulled the phone back.

Jennifer screamed into the phone, “He’s engaged to me, not Anne.”

Jennifer pulled the phone from her ear as Jana squealed into the phone and even
Dave could hear yell, “Kyra, he asked Jennifer to marry him.  They’re engaged.”

Jana quickly came back o the phone and fired off a bunch of questions in rapid
fire fashion.  “When did he do it?  Where were you when he proposed?  What does
the ring look like?  Do your parents know?  Is the ring pretty?”

Jennifer laughed before she replied, “Mom knew all about it and he came to
Charlestown about an hour ago and proposed to me at my house.  The ring is
unimaginable; it has a huge gorgeous diamond offset by two incredible shoulder
diamonds in the most amazing setting I’ve ever seen.”

Jana asked, “Where are you now?  What are your plans?”

Jennifer was as excited as Jana as she explained, “We’re on our way to his
trailer in North Beach.  We’re flying to Mamaroneck, New York tomorrow so Dave
can play in the US Open.  After that I’m not sure.  Oh shit, I just remembered I
have to call my boss and get some time off.  I know he will understand.  Dave has
a lot of golf plans this summer so I may just quit my job.  Anyway, that’s as far
ahead as we’ve planned.”

Jana gasped, “I have to see the ring.  Can you get a digital picture of it and
send it to me?”

Jennifer chuckled.  “I think Dave’s mom has a digital camera.  We’ll see if we
can send one tomorrow.”

Jennifer could hear Kyra asking to speak before Jana explained, “Kyra wants to
say hi.”

Kyra came on the phone and gasped, “Oh Jennifer, I’m so happy for you both.
Congratulations.  I knew Dave would come around.”

Jennifer giggled.  “I’m happy you were right.  And thank you, from both of us.”

Kyra asked, “Can I speak to Dave?”

Jennifer turned to Dave, “Kyra wants to speak to you.”

Dave nodded before he said to Jennifer, “Do you mind driving for a while?”

Jennifer spoke to Kyra, “Just a minute, Dave’s pulling over so he can speak to
you.  Goodbye, Kyra.”

Kyra thanked Jennifer and a moment later Dave came on the line.  “Hi, Kyra, how
are you?”

“Not nearly as good as you are.  I’m so happy for you both but why didn’t you
talk to me about Anne?”

Dave spoke very softly to her.  “Kyra, I know you would have supported me but I
really didn’t want you to get caught in the middle.  I love you too much to let
you get hurt, again.”

Kyra cooed, “Thanks, I love you too, Dave.  You and Jennifer should come to The
Pines with us this summer.”

Dave laughed as he heard Jana cheering in the background.  “I don’t know if I
could go to a nudist camp.  I think I would be too scared.”

Kyra snickered.  “You have nothing to be scared of; you have a great body.”

Dave was actually worried about walking around with an erection from seeing
beautiful naked women, but he merely replied, “Thanks, Kyra.  I’ll talk to
Jennifer about it.  Are you having a good summer?”

Kyra replied, “Yes, and I know it will be much better now that I know you are
with Jennifer.  I’m just so happy for the two of you.”  Dave could hear Jana
asking to speak to him before Kyra added, “Jana wants to speak to you.”

Dave heard Jana’s voice softly say, “Hi, handsome, I’m so happy you proposed to
Jennifer and she had the good sense to accept.  I love you both so much and
couldn’t imagine you two without each other.”

Dave laughed as he teased, “And you didn’t really like Anne very much did you?”

Jana chuckled.  “Don’t get me started on that jealous …” Dave heard Kyra growl at
Jana and pull the phone from her.  After a brief struggle Jana came back on the
line.  “Sorry, Dave, I shouldn’t say anything about Anne, but I will say I didn’t
like her very much.”

Dave replied, “Anne was very unique.  I know I will be much happier with
Jennifer.”

Jana then returned to Kyra’s suggestion.  “You and Jennifer should definitely
come to The Pines for a vacation.  We’ll have a great time.”

Dave simply said, “We’ll see.”

Dave and Jana chatted for a few more minutes before they said their goodbyes.
Kyra said goodbye to Dave then Jennifer said goodbye to the twins and Dave hung
up.  Jennifer was still smiling excitedly as she explained, “The twins have been
trying to convince me to go to their camp for the last two months.  We should
think about going.”

Dave shrugged.  “I’m not sure I want to go.  It would feel strange walking around
nude all the time and I’m not sure how I would feel about guys staring at you.”

Jennifer took his hand and squeezed it gently.  “They would only get to look
because you are the only man for me.”

Dave was happy to hear her say that but he softly said, “I was serious about what
I said last summer.  I don’t think we should sleep with anyone but each other and
I know Jana will want us to make love with her.”

Jennifer squeezed his hand again before she explained, “Dave, I will do what you
want; I really enjoyed sharing you with Ann and Katherine and I wouldn’t mind
sharing you with Jana or Kyra.”

Dave looked at her very seriously.  “I’m not sure.  We’ll have to talk about it a
lot more before we’re ready to make that decision.  I also still feel
uncomfortable with the idea of having sex with Jana.  She hurt me really bad last
summer and I’m not sure if I’m completely over that yet.”  Jennifer didn’t reply
but she again squeezed his hand.

They talked more about their plans for the summer and when they pulled into North
Beach campground, it was fairly deserted.  They pulled up to Dave’s family
trailer and carried their bags inside.  They were barely through the door when
Jennifer moved into Dave’s arms and kissed him passionately.  He slipped his
hands under her short red skirt and massaged her round ass as she pushed her
breasts into his chest.  Their tongues dueled briefly before Jennifer pulled
Dave’s shirt over his head and dropped to her knees.  She unfastened his shorts
and his rock hard prick pushed out through the opening.  She pulled his shorts
and underwear down in a quick motion and sucked his throbbing meat into her
mouth.  Dave moaned in delight as she stared up at his smiling face.

She worked his hardness with her magical touch and he soon warned, “I’m going to
cum.”  She increased her sucking pressure and he exploded in her mouth.  She
loved his tangy taste and happily swallowed every drop.  She smiled up at him as
he slowly recovered from his euphoria.

When he regained control of his senses he pulled her to her feet and peeled her
rose blouse over her head.  He kissed her passionately as he unfastened her bra.
She moved back and allowed her bra to slide off her arms before she pushed her
breasts against Dave’s chest.  He felt so wonderful and she loved having his huge
arms wrapped around her.

Dave guided her to the couch and after quickly unfolding it he lay her down and
pulled off her panties and skirt.  He dropped between her legs and began licking
and teasing her thighs while his one hand massaged her breast.  She could feel
her excitement oozing out of her slit and she moved her hands to Dave’s head to
try and steer him to her excited sex.  He kept teasing her and moving past her
soft lips as she moaned in a combination of frustration and excitement.  He
finally slid his tongue between he soft petals and she moaned louder.  She could
feel her excitement building as he moved his tongue inside her opening.  Her
spine tingled as he flicked his tongue across her clit and she pushed her hips to
meet his hot tongue.

Her climax was building faster and faster and when he slid two fingers deep
inside her wet opening she yelled, “Fuck me with your fingers, Dave.  Ohh yeah,
right there. OOHHHHH!”

She thrust her hips as her climax overloaded her senses and she held his head
tightly against her mound as she pushed her hips to meet his sucking lips.  Her
body shook with excitement and she thought she was going to pass out from the
incredible sensation.  Her body continued to shake and convulse as he eased her
down from her climax.

She stared up at him with half closed eyes as she gasped, “That felt wonderful.
I’ve missed you so much.”  He kissed her softly as she stroked his rejuvenated
rock hard pole.  She asked, “Ready to fill me up with this little monster?”

He smiled as he moved on top of her and eased his girth inside her wet opening.
She quickly wrapped her legs around his hips as she pulled him deep inside her.
He ground his hips against her as they started a smooth rhythm.  She dropped her
legs to the bed as he began thrusting harder and harder.  She pulled his face
down to hers and kissed him sensually.  He steadily increased his pace as her
excitement grew.  He filled her so perfectly that she could feel his crown moving
in and out of her.  As her climax started to peak, Dave thrust ever harder and
ground his pelvis against her clit.  It drove her over the top as she moaned in
excitement.  She felt his hardness begin to throb before the warm jets of his
seed splash deep inside her.  She wrapped her legs around him again and held him
deep inside her.  She stared into his loving eyes and she knew she would be
forever happy.

He slowly rolled onto his side and the two lovers, best friends and soul-mates,
cuddled together as they drifted off to dreamland.
