Chapter Twenty-Three - From Island to Island

Dave woke early with Jennifer in his arms. He cuddled to her back and thought
about the previous night. They had stayed at the campfire fairly late before
going to town and the house they were going to share during Sam's visit. At the
house they had made undisturbed, passionate love until they both drifted off to
a contented sleep.

Jennifer had surprised Dave when she disappeared into the bathroom as soon as
they arrived home. He was naked in bed when she emerged wearing a black see-
through nightgown. He was rock hard in an instant as she seductively strolled
to the bed. He could see her hard nipples faintly through the filmy material
and her soft slit was just visible though he sensual panties. She purred, "I
bought this special for you in Charlestown but I didn't know whether I would get
a chance to wear it until now. Do you like it?" She already knew the answer by
simply observing the tent erected in the blankets by Dave's very hard pole.

He pulled back the blankets, fully exposing his hardness, "I would say like is
not nearly a strong enough word."

He rolled out of bed and met her as she neared the bed. He kissed her sensually
as his hands explored her erotic body. He moved his hands to her breasts and
held one in each hand as he sucked and licked her nipples through the soft
material. He slowly slid his hand down her belly and slipped a finger into her
wet opening. She moaned appreciation as he gently guided her to the bed. Once
on the bed he slowly slid the top up and caressed and teased her nipples. He
then moved down her body and slowly pulled her panties off as he moved his face
between her legs and smelled her rich, tangy juices.

He licked and teased her to a rousing orgasm. After giving her lots of time to
recover by continuing his licking and teasing, he moved up her body and slowly
positioned his rock hard pole at her opening. She guided him into her wet hole
and he gently pushed forward until he was fully seated. He then started a slow
stroking motion that allowed their excitement to slowly build. After at least
ten minutes, his pace had increase significantly and they both reached a happy
mutual orgasm.

The love making session continued for more than an hour longer and each had one
more orgasm before they fell soundly asleep in each other's arms.

Dave now looked over at the clock on the dresser, it was six thirty and he
wanted to get to the golf course for his morning practice. He had enjoyed the
night before - it was nice not having to worry about being caught in the trailer
or having to make love on the hard ground.

He kissed Jennifer's neck and hugged her tight. She slowly woke up and turned
to face him. They kissed softly before he whispered, "I hate to leave your warm
arms but I want to practice this morning. Are you ready to get going?"

She quietly smiled and stretched, "Yes, just give me a few minutes to wake up."

Dave kissed her again and rolled out of bed. He pulled on some clothes before
he went to the bathroom. He emerged from the bathroom and went to the kitchen
to make breakfast. He made some toast and got out the cereal, milk, and
utensils. When Jennifer entered the kitchen, Dave had the small breakfast laid
out on the breakfast nook.

They ate as they talked about going to the beach later that day. Then they
agreed to go to a movie that evening. After eating, Dave cleaned the dishes in
the sink and completed tidying up. Jennifer was surprised to see him clean
everything but he explained that he wanted to continue to show he was
responsible and worthy of 'private time' with his girlfriend.

The drive to North Beach passed quickly and Jennifer soon pulled in to her
trailer's parking space. Dave kissed her goodbye as he walked to the golf
course. He got his clubs from storage and spent the day working on his long
irons and his chipping.

It was almost ten o'clock and he was chipping onto the practice green when he
noticed two women walking towards him. There was no mistaking the red hair of
their sensual visitor and he smiled at Sam and Jennifer. Sam walked right over
to him and took the putter from his golf bag. She started putting and, after
she sank a few putts, she teased, "I thought you said this was a tough game? It
seems pretty easy to me."

Dave laughed, "It can be pretty easy some days - while other days it can seem
impossible."

She smiled and replied, "Well, it's almost ten o'clock and everyone is waiting
for you to return so we can go to the beach. I'm ready to go toast in the sun,
so I asked Jennifer to show me where you were." Sam walked up beside Dave and
purred in his ear, "I rubbed and massaged you last fall. Now it's your turn to
take me to the beach and run suntan lotion all over me. Are you ready for
that?"

Goodbye golf. Dave could feel a little stir in his shorts as he remembered how
Sam had massaged him the previous fall. He looked at Jennifer who nodded
approvingly. He replied, "I don't know if I could ever be completely ready for
beautiful women like you two; but I will do my best."

Sam smiled and simply said, "You're sweet."

Dave put his clubs and balls in his bag then pulled his bag onto his shoulders
as he motioned for the women to lead the way. He was carefully enjoying the
view of the two beautiful asses in front of him as he walked slightly behind
them. The walk back to the trailer took about ten minutes and both family vans
were loaded and ready to go when they arrived. Dave put his clubs in his
trailer before he followed Jennifer to her family van.

They arrived at the beach and found a cozy spot. Dave had just settled down on
a lawn chair when Sam asked, "Will you put some lotion on my back?"

Dave immediately moved to her side and took the bottle in his hand. Sam lay on
her stomach and untied her yellow bikini top for unrestricted access. Dave
noted the soft sides of her compressed breasts as he teasingly let drops of the
cool lotion land on her legs and back. He then put a liberal amount on his
hands, warmed the liquid slightly, and rubbed the lotion into the back of her
legs. He briefly considered sliding his hand up her thigh and caressing her sex
but, with both his and Jennifer's family right next to him, he couldn't do more
than enjoy the thought. He moved to her back and worked the lotion over her
back, shoulders and arms.

Sam thanked him as he returned to his chair. Jennifer grabbed her mask and
snorkel and asked Dave if he wanted to go for a swim. He nodded and got his
mask as well. They swam for an hour. When they returned, Sam asked what they
had seen while they were snorkeling and Dave elaborated, "We saw a lot of crabs.
We also saw a few small lobsters and some fish. I actually saw a small eel
too."

Sam replied, "That sounds interesting. Can you show me later?"

Dave looked at Jennifer for a response and she said, "Sam is welcome to use my
stuff."

Dave and Sam smiled at Jennifer and thanked her. Jennifer nodded. It was
lunchtime so Carol and Heather broke open the picnic baskets and the coolers.

After a good meal Dave asked Jennifer to go for a walk. Jennifer noticed Sam
looking at them curiously so she invited Sam to join them. Sam was very pleased
and accepted immediately. They talked about Sam's winter and how she liked
nursing. Eventually Sam looked directly at Dave and apologized, "I'm sorry I
put you out of the trailer. I hope it's not too much of an inconvenience."

Dave laughed, "Actually, I'm enjoying the time alone with Jennifer. It was
really nice to wake up with her in my arms this morning. That's the kind of
inconvenience that could go on for quite some time before I complain." Jennifer
nodded her own agreement.

They walked and talked for over an hour. When they returned, Dave took Sam for
a swim and showed her how to use the snorkel and mask. She loved the simple but
beautiful sights under the water. Dave pointed out several lobster hiding under
large rocks and they even saw one lobster that only had one claw. Dave later
explained that some lobster that were injured by either predators or another
lobster tended to stay closer to shore where it seemed to be safer. Usually,
the lobster seen close to shore were either quite small or injured.

The remainder of the afternoon was filled with relaxation, sunning, and more
swimming. The two families went back to the trailers just before suppertime and
had a quick barbecue before Dave and Jennifer left for town. Dave and Jennifer
had plans to go to a movie with John and his girlfriend.

After the movie, the four friends went to McDonalds. They were sitting talking
with several of Dave's major-midget-league teammates when Katherine walked in.
Dave didn't notice her at first but Jennifer, who was facing the door, saw her
immediately. Jennifer was slightly relieved when she saw Katherine with another
boy and it was very obvious they were together because he had his arm around
her.

John asked Dave what he was doing the next day and Dave said they didn't have
any plans. John asked Dave if he and Jennifer wanted to go to Basin Head. Dave
looked at Jennifer and she shrugged. Dave said they would love to go. Jennifer
asked what Basin Head was. Dave explained that he had never been there but had
heard it was basically a beach that also had a nearby bridge where people could
safely jump into the deep channel that ran out to the beach. He had been told
it was a lot of fun and had always wanted to go there. Jennifer agreed it
sounded like fun so they made plans to meet at Dave's house at ten o'clock the
next morning.

Dave continued to talk with his friends and didn't notice Katherine until he was
about to leave. He saw her sitting with Charlie Feehan and was immediately
concerned. He tried not to act differently but when he got outside he pulled
John aside and asked, "Is Katherine dating Feehan?"

John just shrugged, "That's the first time I saw them together but it sure looks
like it."

Changing the subject, John told Dave he would see him in the morning and left
with his girlfriend. Dave walked back to Jennifer's car, he was still a little
miffed but he tried to look casual. Jennifer asked, "Is everything okay, Dave?"

Dave put a false act and smiled, "Yeah, everything is fine. I had a really good
time today."

Jennifer smiled, "Me too."

Dave was quiet as they drove back to his house. He was upset that Katherine was
with Charlie Feehan. He thought about it a lot and wondered if maybe he was
just jealous. Finally, he had to admit to himself that he was jealous but there
was something else. He was staring out the windshield in a daze when he heard,
"Dave, Dave are you okay?"

He looked at Jennifer confused and she explained, "Your mind is in another
place. What is wrong?"

She was just pulling into the driveway and he said, "I'll explain when we get
inside."

When the car came to a stop he got out his door and waited for Jennifer in front
of the car. He put his arm around her and kissed her softly and whispered, "I
love you."

She replied, "I love you too."

They walked into the house hand in hand and he led her to the couch in the
living room. He sat down beside her and explained, "I saw Katherine with a guy
I know from school. He's part of the in-crowd but he is really arrogant. He is
one of those people who thinks that his shit doesn't stink. I've seen him with
girls and he tends to treat them really badly. I'm just worried about
Katherine."

Jennifer was a little upset that he was thinking about Katherine as she had been
afraid of this very thing. She asked, "Do you think that maybe you are just
jealous?"

Dave thought for a moment before he looked deep into Jennifer's eyes, "I guess I
am a little jealous. Katherine is a sweet girl and we got really close last
winter, but I love you and I want to be with you. That hasn't changed and I
don't expect it to. But Charlie can be a real pig. I've seen him at parties -
he usually gets totally wasted and then makes a real ass of himself. Jennifer
deserves better than him."

Dave thought about Katherine for another second before he realized how Jennifer
must be feeling. He smiled and said, "Enough of that. She's in my past. You
are my present and I want to make love to you again tonight. Are you ready for
bed?"

Jennifer smiled and he took her hand and led her upstairs. Again she
disappeared into the bathroom and emerged with the same nightgown. This time he
waited for her in bed and they again made soft sensual love until early in the
morning before they fell asleep in each other's arms.

Dave slept soundly and didn't wake quite as early as usual. He seemed to know
he wasn't practicing today and was still sound asleep when he felt Jennifer get
out of bed. He slowly woke up and felt a need to use the bathroom. He looked
at the clock - seven o'clock. He got out of bed and walked to the bathroom
naked. He was surprised when the door was wide open and Jennifer was sitting on
the toilet. He started to walk back to the room when Jennifer said, "You can
come in if you want. I'll be done in a second."

Dave walked into the bathroom but he felt funny standing there while she was
using the toilet. He kind of chuckled and Jennifer noticed immediately. She
asked, "What?"

He replied, "It just seems funny to walk in here while you're using the toilet.
I know I've seen everything there is to see but it feels weird."

Jennifer wiped herself, stood up and put her arms around him. She kissed him
softly, "We're just like an old married couple." He nodded and smiled before he
moved in front of the toilet. She added, "Do you want me to hold that for you?"

Before he could reply she walked beside him and took hold of his soft prick.
When her soft hand made contact, he started to harden. She was pointing his rod
at the toilet but when his piss started it came out a little sideways and she
splashed some over the edge. She laughed, "Jesus, can't you even shoot
straight?"

He laughed which caused his penis to bounce and even more urine splashed across
the porcelain. He teased, "I thought you knew how to handle one of these?"

As his flow slowed, she continued to hold him until it stopped then she shook it
the way she had seen it done in the movies. She then moved her hand to his
balls and tenderly caressed them; that made his manhood stand at complete
attention. She whispered, "Let's go back to bed and I'll show you how well I
can handle this thing."

He smiled and she guided him to the bed without removing her hand from his
member. He was completely hard when she pushed him onto the bed. She started
to suck on his hardness and he moved her so her soft snatch was positioned above
his face. He was happily licking and teasing her when they heard a sudden,
"That looks like fun."

Dave and Jennifer both looked up in total surprise. Standing in the doorway was
Sam. Dave and Jennifer quickly tried to pull some blankets over themselves but
Sam laughed, "You don't have to cover up on my account. I've already seen Dave
many times and, well, Jennifer - you look very beautiful but I have seen many
naked women at work as well. Dave, your mother got called in to work today - it
seems the hospital is very short of staff and she couldn't say no. She dropped
me off here - I was going to walk into town and do some shopping later. I guess
you didn't hear my knock; sorry for interrupting. I'll wait for you two
downstairs. Take your time and finish what you're doing."

Sam walked away; Dave and Jennifer just stared at each other then laughed. They
kissed softly but both knew they were no longer in the mood to make love so they
got dressed and went to the kitchen to join Sam.

Sam again apologized for unexpectedly interrupting them but quickly dropped the
subject when Dave and Jennifer appeared shy about it. Dave asked what time his
mother was working until and Sam said it was going to be a twelve hour shift.
He asked, "Why don't you come to Basin Head with us?" He explained what Basin
Head was but Sam said she didn't have her swimsuit with her. Dave got an idea
and he called the trailer. Julie answered the phone half asleep. He asked her
if she was coming to town to pick up her boyfriend and she said she was. He
passed the phone to Sam. Sam asked Julie to find the yellow bikini bathing suit
in her suitcase and bring it to town.

Dave cooked a large breakfast with bacon, eggs, and toast. He, Sam, and
Jennifer chatted comfortably as he cooked. They continued to talk while they
ate; after breakfast Dave and Jennifer went up to change.

Dave packed a basket for lunch. Julie arrived just before ten o'clock and Sam
thanked her for the delivery. Julie wished them a good day as she went to get
her boyfriend.

Sam changed quickly and was just coming out of the house as John pulled up.
Dave introduced Sam to John and Christa, his current girlfriend. Because John's
car was too small for five people, they took Jennifer's family car.

The drive to Souris took most of an hour and they had to drive ten minutes
farther to get to the eastern tip of the island. They turned off the main road
and followed the signs to the beach. As they pulled into the fairly small
parking lot they immediately noticed a large building with "Fisherman's Museum"
on the side. They left their lunch in the car but took their beach towels and
bags with them.

There was a building attached to the museum which said change rooms, so they
walked towards that. They could see a clay road next to the building which
seemed to lead towards the beach but as they neared the change room, they saw a
passage way straight through the building so they followed it.

As they walked out the far side of the building they saw the beach about thirty
feet below the hill the building sat on. To their left they could see many old
buildings on a wharf next to a small harbour; it looked very similar to many
fishing villages on QAI. There was a bridge which crossed over the small
channel that led from the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the harbour.

Sam and Jennifer both gasped at how beautiful the area was as Dave followed John
and Christa down the boardwalk towards the wharf. As they neared the wharf,
they could see that most of the old buildings were sitting on wooden piles and
over the water. They were obviously abandoned but the outside paint and windows
were maintained for appearance.

Dave walked with Sam and Jennifer at his side and they took in the magnificent
view of the area. The channel had an eight-foot high wharf on each side and a
bridge which was about three feet high at the crest and joined the two wharves.
The wharves were only about thirty feet apart and the wharf on the near side was
about two-hundred feet long while the one on the far side was about one-hundred
feet long. The water between the wharves was flowing out towards the beach with
a gentle current.

John and Christa walked across the bridge towards the beach on the far side of
the wharf. Dave, Sam and Jennifer followed. There were kids and adults alike
jumping off the wharves and the bridge into the channel. Dave watched as the
current pushed the swimmers towards the beach. Jennifer looked excited, "I have
to try that."

Dave and Sam agreed and the three of them followed John to the beach where they
quickly dropped their stuff and peeled off their clothes. They raced back to
the wharf and briefly watched as more kids jumped into the water. Sam said,
"You go first, Dave."

He nodded and, after checking to make sure no one was floating under him, he
jumped in - he felt his body drop through the air before his feet broke the
surface of the rushing water. The water was a little cool but on the warm day
it felt good. He surfaced and called for Sam and Jennifer to join him. He was
able to swim against the current and maintain his position until both women
jumped. They surfaced beside him and they then let the current take them out
the channel. He noticed several kids swim to the side of the wharf and climb
the old wrought-iron metal ladders up the wharf so they could jump again. He
continued drifting with the water because he wanted to check out the end of the
channel.

As they passed the end of the wharf on their left they could see the white sand
beach where they had left their clothes. The wharf on the right side extended
another forty feet towards the Gulf. Jennifer swam into Dave's arms and kissed
him, "This place is spectacular. We should have come here before." Dave nodded
as he agreed that they had been missing out.

Sam was right beside them and she also agreed, "This place is truly beautiful."

The water got shallow and it was soon only waist deep. They walked back onto
the sand and made their way back to the bridge. Dave said, "Let's jump off the
bridge together this time."

They lined up along the bridge and were happy to see John and Christa join them.
They waited for the floating bodies below to clear before they all jumped
holding hands. They hit the water at pretty much the same time and surfaced
laughing and cheering. They again floated out to the beach before walking back
to the wharf.

This time, however, they just walked past the stairs leading to the bridge and
walked towards the water in the harbour. The sand was the same soft mauve
island sand on the harbour side of the wharf. They walked into the water in the
harbour then swam around the wharf and floated through the channel. Kids and
adults were jumping into the water around them. It felt relaxing to just float
along the channel and Dave was holding hands with both Jennifer and Sam as they
floated under the bridge and out the channel.

As they reached the beach Sam said, "Let's go out in the deeper water."

Both Dave and Jennifer looked out towards the Gulf and nodded agreement. They
walked through the waist deep water until they reached a large sandbar. The
water was only ankle deep on the sandbar. They walked across the sandbar and
out into deeper water. The waves were about two feet high and they played in
the surf for a while.

Dave turned and looked at the beach. As he faced the shore he could see
beautiful white sand beaches to the right side of the wharves. There was a
beach volleyball net set up in the sand. Beyond the sand was nice green foliage
and beyond that were tall spruce trees. To the left of the wharves was a short
white sand beach which quickly turned into tall red cliffs. Dave marveled at
the red Island stone which QAI is famous for. He thought about the beaches of
France and he knew he had been correct - this was significantly more pristine.

Sam suddenly said, "Look at that huge ship."

Dave looked at the large ship and explained, "That's the ferry that goes from
Souris to the Magdalene Islands." Jennifer knew about the Magdalene Islands but
Sam looked questioningly at him. He elaborated, "The Maggies, as the islands
are often called, are actually part of the province of Quebec even though they
are only about sixty miles from QAI while being several hundred miles from
Quebec. There is an airport on the main island but this ferry is the only other
connection to the mainland."

They watched as the large ferry moved past them towards Souris. After almost an
hour in the water they returned to the wharf and jumped several more times
before going to their place on the beach and relaxing. It was just past lunch
so Dave suggested going back to the car to eat.

They all walked to the car together and Christa chatted comfortably with Sam and
Jennifer. They found a picnic table near the car and ate the sandwiches they
had prepared.

After lunch Sam, Jennifer and Dave went for a walk down the beach. They were
all surprised how similar the beach was to North Beach which was only about
fifty miles away.

The five friends spent the afternoon jumping from the wharf and swimming in the
Gulf. It was a great day and at four o'clock all were tired as they walked
towards the car. The drive home passed quickly and Dave invited John and
Christa to stay for supper. He made his spaghetti supper and everyone ate a
healthy portion before they retired to the television room.

They relaxed and watched television until the phone rang. Dave answered the
phone and said hello to his mother. She asked what they had done all day and he
told her all about Basin Head. She was glad to hear Sam had a good time then
asked to speak to her. Dave passed the phone to Sam. John walked out of the
television room and announced that he and Christa were going home. He wished
Dave luck in the Atlantic tournament as they left.

Dave looked at the clock and was surprised it was just past seven o'clock. Sam
walked back into the television room and explained, "Your mother is just leaving
the hospital. She'll be here in about ten minutes. I have to get my stuff
together but I wanted to thank both of you for a wonderful day."

She walked up to Dave and he put his hands out to simply hug her but, as she
drew close to him, their lips met and he was surprised when he felt her tongue
snake into his mouth. He felt her hands squeeze his ass and he wrapped his arms
around her, slightly surprised by her forwardness.

When they separated, Dave smiled at her then looked at Jennifer not knowing what
her reaction would be but she was simply smiling at him. Sam moved to Jennifer
and Jennifer also opened her arms to Sam who repeated the hot passionate kiss
with Jennifer. Dave felt his manhood stir as Jennifer's hands likewise caressed
Sam's full, round ass. Their kiss was long and heated and Dave was definitely
getting excited when they finally parted and smiled at each other.

Sam walked out of the room and was pulling her things together when Dave heard
the back door open and his mother stride into the kitchen. She was wearing her
uniform and Dave said hello as she helped Sam with her bag.

Carol and Sam said goodbye as they left and Dave and Jennifer were just heading
towards the shower when the phone rang. Dave picked it up and his father
explained that he would pick Dave up at six the next morning. He was picking
Alan up at six-ten so he wanted Dave to be ready. He explained he would have
Dave's clubs and shoes. Dave said he would be waiting.

Dave and Jennifer took a relaxing shower before they went to bed and made
passionate love. This time Jennifer simply climbed in bed with Dave without
changing into any sexy lingerie. As they made love, Dave's mind was filled with
images of Sam and her sensual kiss. He had never before really thought about
another woman when he made love to Jennifer and it seemed strange that this
seemed to be happening. As he lay on his back with Jennifer on top of him
grinding and pushing against his hardness an image of a naked Sheri suddenly
popped into his head and he was slightly distracted for a moment as he imagined
lying on a green on some golf course with his golfing nemesis impaled on his
hardness and riding out a wild orgasm.

He shook his head and re-focused on Jennifer as he slowly reached his second
orgasm of the night. Jennifer continued riding him until her orgasm peaked and
she cuddled into him as she slowly recovered. They fell asleep in each other's
arms and Dave had no more thoughts about Sam or Sheri.

Dave's alarm went off early the next day. He instantly got out of bed and
packed a small bag for the one night stay before going to eat breakfast.
Jennifer was still sleeping soundly as he kissed her cheek. He ate quickly and
was soon standing on the front lawn waiting for his father who arrived exactly
on schedule.

The trip to Cape Breton took six hours. They first drove the forty-five minutes
to the Wood Islands ferry. This ferry crosses from QAI to Pictou, Nova Scotia.
After the seventy-five minute ferry ride they were back on the road and headed
towards Cape Breton. Dave had never been to Cape Breton before. Cape Breton is
on the eastern end of Nova Scotia and, although called a cape, is actually a
very large island. They drove across the very short causeway separating Cape
Breton from mainland Nova Scotia.

Cape Breton was very hilly and rocky and the car carved its way through the
beautiful scenery. As they neared Baddeck, the Bras d'Or Lakes came into view
and the beautiful blue lakes surrounded by rock and trees were magnificent.
Dave started to get excited as he imagined how scenic the golf course must be.
Dave had heard that the Belle Bay Golf Course was similar to the Buzzard's Bluff
course on QAI. It was designed by the same architect but Dave had heard it
wasn't as unfair as Buzzard's Bluff often seemed.

They pulled into Baddeck around noon and went straight to the motel. The
Telegraph House was a simple little motel and Dave, Alan, and Roger were soon
taking their bags into the room. They left the car in front of the motel and
walked across the street to a small diner. They ate a good meal before
returning to the car and driving down the road to the golf course. They passed
the Alexander Graham Bell museum before they reached the entrance to the golf
course.

The paved road wound its way up a steep hill until it gave way to a large
parking lot and a nice sized clubhouse. Roger pulled up to the off-load area
where both Alan and Dave got out and removed the clubs from the car. Roger
parked and walked back to join them. They walked into the pro shop to pay for
their green fees. The rates were very reasonable for a high-quality golf
course. They had an hour before their tee time so Dave bought a bucket of balls
and went to the driving range. He hit balls for thirty minutes before going to
the practice green. He putted until their tee time and was pleased he adjusted
to the speed of the greens quite easily.

The front nine was made up of nine great golf holes. The scenery was nice and
the holes were fair. Dave was happy with a one-under-par thirty-six. Roger
shot forty-one and Alan was forty-three.

The back nine carried right over from the front and, by the time they reached
the sixteenth tee, all three golfers were in awe as to how scenic and
entertaining the golf course was. The sixteenth was a short par four and Dave
almost drove the green. As they neared the greens they had gotten used to
peeking ahead to the next hole to see what was coming. Dave called to his
father as he looked at seventeen - it looked spectacular. Dave could see a
large ravine with the green just on the other side. He could tell it was a par
three. He got re-focused on his short chip shot and rolled it three feet from
the hole then made the putt for an easy birdie. He was now three under par.

He walked to the next tee with his father and uncle and all three were excited
to see how challenging the hole looked. They had to climb a small hill to find
the tee. They stood on the tee and looked across the dark green ravine at a
green which was only slightly below their current passion. They were all
awestruck. Dave looked at the tee and suddenly realized the blue tees they were
playing from were nowhere in sight. There was only a set of the shorter-
distance white tees. Dave looked up the hill behind them and he could see that
there was another tee area further up. He tapped his father on the shoulder and
said, "I think our tees are up there."

Roger and Alan smiled at him and they climbed the hill with their clubs on their
backs. This tee was about thirty feet higher than the one they were just on and
all three giggled at each other as they looked at the marvelous golf hole. Dave
found a marker on the side of the tee and it said one-hundred and eighty-two
yards. He looked at the scorecard and this was actually the black tee but they
must have put the blue tee blocks on it for the day.

He selected his six-iron and put a smooth swing on it. His ball landed in the
middle of the green fifteen feet from the hole. Both Roger and Alan got over
the ravine but both missed the green. The walk down the steep hill to the
bridge crossing the ravine was almost as tiring as the walk up the hill on the
other side. Dave arrived at the green and looked back and up at the tee. This
was one of the nicest scenic golf holes he had ever played.

After Roger and Alan chipped on, Dave putted but missed his birdie. He made a
short par putt before waiting for Roger and Alan to finish. He placed the pin
back in the hole and followed his father and uncle towards the last hole. There
was a sign which directed golfers playing white, blue, and black tees to follow
the right pathway.

They followed the directions and climbed another small hill to the tee. Roger
arrived first and he was calling for the other two to hurry up. As Dave walked
onto the tee the first thing he saw was the Bras D'Or Lakes. The three men were
standing high up on a hill overlooking the whole area and the view was simply
spectacular. A large "tall ship" was cutting through the lake under full sail
and Dave simply said, "Wow!"

Alan echoed him, "Wow doesn't do it justice. Un-fucking believable." Both Dave
and Roger chuckled but the truth be known, that was the best way to describe the
view.

After taking a moment just to enjoy the view they turned to their left and
looked at the last challenge. It was another gorgeous golf hole with a large
ravine directly in front of the tee and then a long fairway to the green. Dave
still had honors so he hit first, a solid drive down the left side. Roger and
Alan both hit good drives well over the ravine.

They finished the last hole and all three were giddy with excitement over the
great golf course. They all agreed that this course was nicer than all the
courses they had played in Myrtle Beach and the only one that was even close to
this course was the Arnold Palmer course, River's Edge.

They left the golf course and went back to the motel. They decided to walk down
the road to a pizza joint for supper. They couldn't stop talking about the golf
course; Dave was really glad he had gotten to play this practice round so the
scenic aspects would not be a huge distraction the next day.

After a good meal they returned to the motel and played cards for a few hours
before bedtime.

Dave slept soundly and woke up excited and ready to play Belle Bay again. They
ate breakfast at the restaurant in the motel before checking out. Roger and
Alan were driving up the Cabot Trail for fun at the Highlands golf course while
Dave played competitively at Belle Bay. They dropped him off at the course at
nine o'clock and he had a two hour wait until the tee times began. Dave knew
the starting time was late to allow the golfers from QAI to drive over that
morning.

Dave had hit balls for an hour then putted for an hour until the QAI team
finally arrived. The head coach, Steve, passed Dave his new team bag and wished
him luck on the day. Dave was in the fourth group.

He played really well. He found the course even more fun to play the second day
and his excitement showed in his score. Everyone except the Island players and
coaches were shocked when he carded a sixty-five and won easily by five strokes.
He heard a lot of talk about his round - words like phenomenon and superstar
were being whispered - but he just shrugged it off and went to talk with his
teammates. He was happy he was playing well and he was happy he had received
more than ten scholarship offers but he knew in his heart he just liked to play.
His low scores and winning tournaments were only a means to his end - a
scholarship to a US college. That was the most important thing to him and he
could feel it was very close to becoming a reality.

Roger arrived shortly after the awards ceremony and Dave was proud to tell him
he shot sixty-five to win the event. Both Alan and Roger congratulated him
before they loaded up the car and headed home.

The first part of the drive was consumed first with Dave talking about his round
- Roger had to hear every hole described in detail. The second major
conversation was the Highlands course. Roger and Alan described the course as
incredibly challenging and very hilly. Roger explained that on the first hole
golfers could see the pin from the tee but as you walked towards the green, huge
mounds in the middle of the fairway hid even the flag from sight. Both men
agreed that the course was by far the most contoured eighteen holes they had
ever played. They further explained that there were hardly any flat lies - your
ball was always either above your feet or below.

Alan laughed as he explained that one time his ball was sitting on the side of a
hill in the middle of a fairway and the ball was actually belt high. He said it
almost felt like swinging at a baseball. They both had really enjoyed the
course but found it a little too rugged for their liking.

Roger also related that as they were standing on the putting green the club pro
asked if it was their first time playing the course. They said yes and he
pointed at a fire watch tower which was at the top of a small mountain several
miles away. There was another small mountain between where they were standing
and the fire tower. The pro told them the ninth green was just below the fire
tower. Roger and Alan laughed and wrote the comment off as a joke but as they
played and the holes cut their way through the mountains they realized the pro
was telling the truth.

They were pleased they had rented a golf car which had been suggested by friends
who had played the course previously. They told Dave they would have been
exhausted if they had walked the course. From the twelfth green to the
thirteenth tee they would have had to walk over a quarter a mile straight up the
side of one mountain. Roger and Alan both laughed as they remembered how their
car barely crawled up the hill.

The rest of the drive home seemed long and Dave spent a lot of time thinking
about the discussions he had had with the US colleges that had called. All had
shown interest in his game and all were impressed with both his swing and his
result in the North Carolina tournament. One college had been more excited than
the others and even wanted to fly him to their campus to discuss his scholarship
opportunities; but that school was in California and Dave was hoping for
something closer to home. One college recruiter only seemed half-interested in
Dave. It was almost as if he had been ordered to call Dave by his boss because
at one point he said, "You look promising but any golfer can have a lucky
weekend." Dave was kind of pissed off at that comment and stroked that college
off his list based on shabby treatment.

Through all his discussions with the colleges, he realized that it was still too
early to make a commitment to any one school. He wanted to wait and see how he
did at the nationals and in the Hartford tournament. Then he would likely have
the full range of options to consider.

Dave was happy when they finally drove over the bridge connecting QAI to New
Dominion. He knew he was only a half hour from home. Roger dropped Alan off
then drove to the house. Jennifer's car wasn't there so Dave knew she must have
stayed at the trailer for the night. He and his father both crashed in bed and
slept soundly.
