                              Censorshit and Young People

          In an apparent attempt to drum up business for its web site, Deja 
News recently asked the following:

	ÒIs The Internet Safe For Kids?Ó

	It is rather odd that the word ÒunsafeÓ is used to connote an 
environment that may contain speech of a sexual nature.  According to 
TIME magazine, many people under 18 are already having sex, so to say 
that the Internet is ÒunsafeÓ because young people might talk about what 
they are DOING is ridiculous.

	One reader, responding to Deja NewsÕs question, advocated 
censorship.Ê However, I donÕt.Ê Censorship is just a way for one person to 
keep talking while others, who might disagree, are forced to shut up.  
Adolf Hitler was particularly fond of censorship, as was Joe Stalin.Ê I 
prefer not to be like them.
