Ten minutes earlier, I'd followed your curiosity's tractor beam, a stinging //yellow and black blur of need, attracted to my cologne, hair and food. Unflinching, I invited you, a //dangerous new pet, to share yogurt. "It's okay. You can have some." Lifting the lid, pink with //cream, to your flight path. You stopped, accepting this, and ate. I cooed again, "You like that? //You do, don't you." Becoming heavy and sticky, you left fearing sweet death. I had pleased //you and smiled. Minutes later, a tiny pinch, like miniature lightning, shocked the hair on //my hand. Drunk from yogurt, you'd returned - a speck of an addict - tugging on my sleeve. //Defensively, I mashed you away to twitch and fade in a small concrete canal. Confused, you died on //your back among dried leaves, used matches and cigarette butts. Then, when you thought I'd forgotten, flew away not really dead. - Carrie Wright [Indented lines with double slashes // appearing in the text indicate that the line above runs farther to the right than my word processor allows. The line should be considered a continuation of the previous line. The "A" and the "B" in "Accidental Bee" are intended by the author to be slightly larger than the rest of the capitalized letters. - Ed.] --------------------------------------------------------------- For more poetry visit: ftp://ftp.asstr.org/pub/Authors/Roller/ <--click http://www.angelfire.com/al2/willdockerypoems/index.html /~Roller/index.html (It is case sensitive, i.e. type Roller, not roller) ACCIDENTAL BEE is copyright 2001 by Carrie Wright 30
