   Last summer Diego Ortiz was cutting through a field late on on a Friday

Ortiz killed this man in cold blood." As Radisson made his statement
Sheriff Atwater,police chief Nash and two other men entered the court room.
Judge Meeker's bailiff approached the bench.  Judge Meeker then called for
a fifteen minute recess.  Judge Meeker then called Radisson, the
sheriff,police chief and the two other men to his chambers.

   A light skinned black man asked Judge Meeker if he could set up his
