   Chasteton, America

   Chaseton County, and its county seat which is the independent city of
Chaseton, is located somewhere in the contiguous United States.  It is a
fictional but realistic city.

   All information below is accurate as of the 2010 census unless otherwise
stated.


   CITY OF CHASETON

   The seat of Chaseton County, the independent city was established in
1888.  In the 2010 census, the city had a population of 13,069.  It has a
seven-member city council and a mayor elected by the council.  Public
services include the Chaseton Fire Department and Chaseton Police
Department.  Public schools include two elementary schools, a middle
school, a high school, and a community college.  It also has private
schools.  Racial breakdown is about 75% White (Not Hispanic), 10% Hispanic,
9% Asian or Pacific Islander, 5% Black, 1% Other.



   ****HISTORY****

   Chaseton and Chaseton County were both named after General Chase who led
the decisive victory in the Battle of Evermoor.  The city was incorporated
in 1888.



   ****GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE****

   The city has a total area of 24.0 square miles of which .75 square miles
is water.  The north side of the city has the highest elevation.  The east
side slopes gradually down to the Blue River on the south side which feeds
into Autumn Lake.  The west side is hilly and the least populated part of
the city.

   Climate is Humid Continental.  Precipitation is relatively even
throughout the year.  Snow is more common than rain in winter (late
December, January, February, early March) where temperatures on most days
go from a little below freezing to a little above.  Summer rain (late June,
July, August, early September) often comes from thunderstorms, with
temperatures on most days ranging from near 60 to near 80.  The climate is
somewhat humid, with about 40 to 45 inches of precipitation per year.



   ****PUBLIC SERVICES****

   Chaseton Police Department

   The Chaseton Police Department employs 50+ sworn officers and 5
civilians.  Police chiefs have included Roger Sr.  ( 1994 - 2012) and Roger
Jr.  (2012+)

   Chaseton Fire Department

   The Chaseton Fire Department includes both professionals and volunteers.
About 85% of their calls are medical, with about 15% fires.  Fire chiefs
include Carl (2012+)



   ****EDUCATION****

   Public Schools: Chaseton Public School District

   CHASETON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: The school has grades 1st through 5th.  Each
grade has four teachers/classes with about 25 students per class, about 100
per grade.  Total students is about 500.  School colors are yellow and
blue. Mascot is the Cat.  It opened in 1887 (the current building dates to
1969).  The school is located next to Crumb Community Park.

   PEDERIL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: The school has grades kindergarten through
3rd.  Kindergarten has five teachers with about 15 students per each
morning and afternoon class.  First through third grade has three
teachers/classes with about 25 students per class, about 75 per grade. 
Total students is about 345.  School colors are brown and white.  Mascot is
the Bearcat.  It opened in 1985.

   CHASETON MIDDLE SCHOOL: The school has grades 6th through 8th.  There
are about 25 students per class.  Students typically have seven periods
which includes six classes and one study period in addition to lunch and a
nutrition break in mid morning.  Student population is about 550.  School
colors are green and yellow.  Mascot is the Wildcat.  Students wear
uniforms, but there is some variety in what can be worn.  Discipline ranges
from detention to swats to in school suspension to suspension.  It began as
a combined Chaseton High and Junior High School in 1901; an oak tree
planted the day the school was dedicated still grows there.  The main hall
which includes the offices and school library is called Bell Hall after the
prominent Bell family.  It is overseen by Principal Miss Crumb (1980 -
2001); Principal Mr.  Truman (2001+).  The school is located next to Crumb
Community Park.

   CHASETON HIGH SCHOOL: The school has grades 9th through 12th.  There are
about 25 students per class with six periods not including lunch and a
nutrition break in mid morning.  Student population is about 750.  School
colors are yellow and black.  Mascot is the Cheetah.  While the combined
Chaseton High and Junior High School opened in 1901, it became a separate
high school at its current location in 1959.  Alma Mater: "Hail, Hail
Chaseton High.  The school to which our hearts draw nigh.  Fight for the
yellow and black.  School spirit we do not lack.  Let's pledge anew and all
be true to dear old Chaseton High." The school is located next to
Sexton-Bush Park.

   Private Schools

   VIRGINIA-MCFEELY PRESCHOOL: A school for ages 3 to 5.  It opened in
1979.

   CHASETON ACADEMY: It serves grades kindergarten through 12th grade with
about 400 students.  Rules are strict; uniforms are strictly regulated. 
Colors are black and white.  Mascot is colubus monkey.

   College

   CHASETON JUNIOR COLLEGE: The college has grades 13 and 14 (freshmen and
sophomores) and offers certificates and associate degrees.  Student
population is about 2,000.



   ****FEATURES****

   AUTUMN LAKE: The lake fed by Blue River is used for recreation.  Boating
and fishing are common, and an area is set aside for swimming.  There is
also the Autumn Lake Campground that is popular during summer but almost
empty during winter.

   BLUE RIVER: A river that feeds Autumn Lake.

   CRUMB COMMUNITY PARK: Located next to both Chaseton Middle School and
Chaseton Elementary School.  Features a playground with swings, monkey
bars, jungle gym, tetherball, slides.  Has grass, trees, and bushes.  Named
after Principal Miss Crumb's grandfather who financed much of the building
of what is now Chaseton Middle School when it was a combined high school
and junior high.

   SEXTON-BUSH PARK: Located next to Chaseton High School.  Features the
Sexton-Bush Bowl which has a stage and seating for entertainment,
especially during summers and during the high school graduation.  It also
has a swimming pool open from spring to fall.  There is also a hall used
for dances and other events, while near the hall is a statue of General
Chase.



   ****BUSINESSES****

   BELL CLOTHING: The most successful independent clothing store in
Chaseton, owned by the Bell family.  The store supplies team and
cheerleader uniforms to Chaseton School District at wholesale prices. 
Caters to all ages, but most popular for preteens, teens and young adults.
Established in 1944.

   BELL PHARMACY: The most successful and oldest continuously operating
family-owned pharmacy in Chaseton, owned by the Bell family.  The pharmacy
supplies basic over-the-counter medicines to Chaseton School District at
cost.  Established in 1885.

   CHASETON CINEMA: Movie theater.  It has five screens and is the only
theater in the area with 3D digital projectors.  Established in 1984.

   CHASETON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL: Serves the city of Chaseton and surrounding
areas.  Established in 1920.

   CHASETON COUNTY OBSERVER: A fair-sized county newspaper, delivered seven
days a week.  Established in 1892.

   CHASETON TIMES: A small daily newspaper, delivered Monday through
Friday. Established in 1926.

   FESTER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME: Chaseton's primary mortuary.  Established in
1912.

   JENKEM PHARMACEUTICALS: A drug research and manufacturing facility. 
Established in 1995.

   MUD SHARK MOTEL: An inexpensive motel.  Established in 1969.

   PETERGIRL MODELS: A modeling company that includes Petergirl Preteens,
Petergirl Teens, and Petergirl Ladies.  Established in 2000.

   PETERMATTER PICTURES: A film production company that specializes in
"adult entertainment," primarily pornographic films and erotic modeling. 
Established in 1998.  Beginning in 2000, it began PeterMatter Ladies, a
subdivision that features erotica and pornography for women.

   RED SNAPPER INN: A nice inn that sits on the edge of Autumn Lake. 
Established in 1969.

   WHOR FM: Contemporary hit radio station.  Established in 1962.
