My grandfather had collapsed and passed away at his home in upstate New York. Since I was his last surviving relative, I needed to take some time off work to manage his estate. I made arrangements for a two week vacation and headed North. The first few days were spent cleaning out piles of garbage and items to donate to Goodwill. Personal items worth holding on to were put in a bag to sort through later. After six days, the house was clean and ready for listing with the Realtor. I kicked back on the front porch and begin to dig through my grandfathers treasures. One particular item [his gold pocket watch] really intrigued me because I could hear it ticking, yet the hands were not moving. I pressed the button to pop open the glass cover and the ticking immediately stopped -- and yet the second hand started to move. I had never seen a watch like this before and didn't understand how [or why] a watch was made in this way. What possible reason could someone use a watch for that only kept time when it was open? I closed the watch back up and the ticking immediately stopped. When it did so, I felt a strange ringing in my ear as if I had heart a loud noise. After a minute, the feeling of uneasiness and the ringing in my ears went away. It was a strange feeling. I decided that I would take the watch to a jeweler to find out the value of the watch and to get an estimate on repairing the thing, if possible. Later that afternoon I set out for town with my new watch in hand. I arrived at the jeweler and approached the man behind the counter. We chatted together for a few minutes and then I presented my watch. I said, "You see how the watch isn't working? Well, when I open it the watch stops ticking but continues to run. At that point I pressed the watch button to demonstrate it and the sound stopped -- but then I looked up to continue our discussion and he seemed frozen. I wondered for a moment if he had suffered a stroke or something, and then I realized outside that the cars had all stopped -- and miraculously a bird seemed to hover in front of the main store window. Time had literally stopped. I clicked the button again and the world came alive around me -- and then the jeweler looked shocked and surprised at my sudden movement. He didn't even perceive that I had moved. He seemed worried and self occupied, so I took my new watch and left the store. My mind was reeling at the possibilities here. Money... women... travel... there were SO many things I could do now. Time was definitely on my side. I was intrigued by the possibilities. Could I really stop time? If so, what were the ramifications? Obviously my grandfather lived a long life and didn't seem to suffer. In fact, he managed a happy life with a steady money supply. Money. That was a great place to start! I headed toward the biggest bank I could find and hoped I could use this thing long enough to get some bags of cash to my car. As I approached the bank, I saw an armored car in front with two guards tossing bags inside and two standing in front of them with rifles of some sort. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the watch. As I was approaching the truck, I slowed down a bit and clicked the button -- and BAM! My chest slammed into the steering wheel. I hadn't anticipated that everything stopped except me. Luckily I was going slow enough that it just knocked the wind out of me and would probably leave a nasty bruise. I stepped out of the car, felt my chest to check for broken ribs, and then popped open the trunk. I reached inside the armored car and grabbed the two loose bags and tossed them into the trunk. One was in mid air since the guard had just let it go a moment before, so I pulled that one in and threw it in the trunk as well. Before I left, I grabbed the sidearm of one of the guards and took the rifle from the others hands, leaving him standing there holding an invisible gun. These guards would have a very difficult time explaining this story, although I would assume there would be some sort of video footage to back them up. I climbed back into the car and buckled myself in, grabbed the steering wheel, and closed the watch. Time returned to normal and in my rearview mirror I could see pandemonium ensuing back at the truck. Rather than get myself into more trouble, I headed back to my grandfathers house, pulled into the garage, closed it up and locked it, and carried my new bags into the house. It took nearly two hours to count it all, and I was amazed to walk away with over $120,000. Because I had the watch, I wouldn't really be needing money -- but if I wanted to blend in or have a real relationship in the near future, it would come in handy. The next thing I needed to think about was satisfying my other needs. I could see, touch, smell, feel anybody I could imagine -- but what would human contact be like? I noticed that the guards hands were warm and normal when I took his gun, so that was a positive sign. But would there be pleasure in feeling up a woman that would never know she had been touched? I guess it was time to find out.
