Captain America braced for impact, but there was none.

alone we would be defeated by him, but together we are undefeatable!"
The others looked to him, as always, for inspiration and hope - and

"We are the Avengers, we have never lost a battle as a team, and
as long as we work as a team - we will never be beaten!"

Magnus landed softly by the lake in Central Park, a few bums

A few small tendrils of power washed over the nearby homeless, the
bums stopped moving, they stood straight and nodded, then turned and
walked towards the forest, Magnus smiled and waited.
G.W Bridge watched the scene, he grimaced and turned back to face
the assembled crew of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier.
"Okay then, he's in Central Park, he appears to have done something
to the bums down there - maybe he took control of their minds by re-routing
the iron flow to their minds - don't worry, you're protected from that by

"Now don't worry, We're a secondary Unit only, we wait until the

The assembled soldiers laughed, Bridge had complete and total

The Avenger's Quinjet landed, Thor was out first, followed by
Hank Pym who had changed into Giant Man. Captain America and Scarlet
Witch were next, followed up by Vision, Hawkeye, the Wasp and the Black
Widow.
"I wish Iron Man was here," laughed Hawkeye nervously.
"Quicksilver and Crystal will get him as soon as he can," replied
Widow,"But we'll be all right."
"Thor, get us an air recon," yelled Cap,"I want to know where he
is!"
Thor took to the air, he looked around, striving to find
Magnus....but Magnus found him first.
A white bolt of energy blasted him, knocking him to the ground.
"Avenger's Assem...." started Captain America, and suddenly nearly
a hundred men burst from the forest, followed by birds, squirrels, stray
dogs and cats, even a small Wolverine. The men were all dressed in filthy
street clothes, they were homeless - and they were mad.
"Attack!" screamed the first, the men and animals bodily threw
themselves upon the Avengers, tearing and screaming.
Hawkeye struggled to free his arms to fire some sort of concussion
arrow or knockout gas, but the bums' sheer numbers forced him down, the
Black Widow shared a similar fate, while The Scarlet Witch and Captain
America had better luck holding them and the animals at bay, she with her
Hex powers and he with his Indestructible Shield. Giant Man threw the
attackers away, while the Vision phased in and out of tangibility and the
Wasp flitted between her mind controlled opponents, hitting them with
bio-stings.
Thor struggled to his feet, he rushed to attack the attackers,
but they ignored him, one of them laughed and shouted out.
"Forget him, Magnus says he isn't worth mentioning."
Thor screamed and grabbed the man by the collar.
"WHERE IS MAGNUS!" he screamed.
The terrified man pointed behind him, Thor dropped him to the
ground and rushed into the trees.
"NO!" screamed Captain America,"Thor it's a trap! We have to stay
together!"
Thor was already gone, Captain America threw his attackers from
him,"Wanda, Vision, with me! Giant Man, you and Wasp get Hawkeye and
Black Widow and follow us!"
They charged into the forest after the enraged Thunder God.
Giant Man roared in anger, he pushed the bums away with such
ferocity that even in their mind controlled state they took stock for a
few seconds.

In response they charged again, the attackers on Hawkeye and
Black Widow leaped off them and charged him as well, animals bit at his

drew an arrow and nocked it to his bow.

animals rushed away. Giant Man waited till they were gone, then crushed
the arrow in his fist.

Captain America didn't like the quiet, it was too.....quiet.

[I detect Thor's presence ahead,] replied Vision,[He appears to
be standing still.]

Captain America went ahead slowly, his Shield held in front of
him, pushing ahead he discovered Thor standing stock still.

The Thunder God did not reply, he stood still, breathing shallowly,
his eyes fixed on a point in front of him.
The Vision stared ahead.
[I detect nothing ahead,] he said coolly,[But Magnus has avoided
detection several times now, perhaps by control of the Electro-Magnetic
Spectrum?]
The Scarlet Witch stared around, she seemed nervous.
"I don't like this at all, I can feel him watching us, laughing

"Calm down," whispered Captain America,"Did you hear that?"

was approaching from behind them.

Vision, noting his wife's tension.
Hawkeye appeared through the trees, he was limping slightly but

pretending to be fine, but Captain America could see she was holding
up a facade.
"What's the matter with Thor?" asked Hawkeye.
Before anyone could answer a burst of red light seemed to erupt
from The Scarlet Witch, everyone was blasted to the ground except for
Thor, who remained standing stock still.
"Excellent Wanda," laughed Magnus, floating down from the sky,"You
