If you've been coming back to the site every day hoping for something new (and I pity you if you have, because I'm not that fast of a writer), you might notice that my short story "Submissive Little Sister" has vanished. Before you start panicking and making up rumors and inventing all kinds of conspiracy theories about what happened, let me put your fears to rest. The story has not actually vanished. It's merely transformed.
In fact, this is good news. I decided a while ago to continue the story of Rick and Amy and their weekend together, and turned "Submissive Little Sister" into the first part of a three-part series, titled A Weekend With Little Sister. I made exactly zero changes to the wording of the original short story, merely reformatting it as Part 1 instead of as a standalone story.
The three parts each take place on a different day of the weekend. Part 1 takes place on Friday, Part 2 on Saturday, and Part 3 on Sunday. I keep mostly to the same tone throughout the story, so if you enjoyed "Submissive Little Sister" I think you'll enjoy the rest.
I'll admit I'm not completely satisfied with this story. Despite its length, I think it moves just a little too fast. Part 3 in particular should really be about twice as long to really achieve the effect I was going for, but it's already slightly longer than the other two chapters, so adding that much more to it would break the regularity and hurt the story overall, so I decided not to do it. I think for the most part the story works just fine.
Note that in this story I break my self-imposed rule of keeping the characters at least thirteen. Amy is eleven. I just felt that for this story I needed a girl who is right on the border between childhood and adolescence, so that her sexuality is ambiguous. By thirteen, a girl has usually had time to come to terms with the fact that she's a sexual being. Not so at eleven. She may be starting to feel those feelings, but not necessarily recognize them for what they are. I needed Amy to be in this state so that her big brother Rick doesn't know whether her attentions toward him are sexual or just childlike adoration. We start to see glimpses into her mind and emotions only at the end of Part 1, and it's not until the end of Part 3 that we truly understand her.
Although Part 3 is the end of this particular tale, this is not the end of the story of Rick and Amy. I've begun to write a little more of that story, but it's going to be a while before I finish it, if I ever do. But don't be surprised if some day you come back to the page and find a new story about them.
