Not a Baby Anymore

My latest short story, Not a Baby Anymore is now available on the website. This one involves a thirteen-year-old boy and his beautiful sixteen-year-old cousin. It starts six years earlier though, setting up the relationship between two children who love each other with childlike innocence. Scott is Anna's devoted admirer, and is looking for a chance to prove himself to her. When he finally gets the opportunity, things don't happen quite the way he expects, but Anna recognizes his love and returns it all the same.

There are some definite similarities between Not a Baby Anymore and Submissive Little Sister. The characters are slightly older here, and the roles are reversed; the boy, who is also the viewpoint character, is the adoring younger "sibling" in this case.

When I first came up with the idea for the story, I was going to have it be a little brother and big sister. But I wanted to give the brother a motivation for rescuing her beyond just the fact that she was his sister. They needed to have a history, and not just implied. So I came up with this back story, changing them into cousins instead of siblings. Really the technical relationship between them doesn't matter; other than the fact that her mother doesn't mind them sleeping in the same bed in the beginning, they could just as easily have not been related at all. The important point is that there's a real reason why Scott adores his cousin. I believe it helps to make the reader care about the characters and want them to get together.

This is my answer to other stories I've read involving people, especially young and innocent characters, who fall in love with each other and then due to some event beyond their control either break up or are separated. I prefer a good "happily ever after," so I decided to write my own tale like that, but capped with a happy ending. We see two characters who are truly happy together in their youth, until they go through a kind of emotional separation but are finally reunited in the end.

Yes, it's my usual formula. A long setup culminating in a love scene at the end. I know I've said this before, but I'm working on some other stories that don't follow the same formula, so hopefully you'll see something new from me soon.

Actually, the sex in this story is incidental. Of all my stories, you could make the argument that in this one it was the least necessary. In all of the others it either advanced the plot or was the culminating event that the rest of the story led up to. In New Daughter for instance, it was a tool that Kimmy used to get her daddy to fall in love with her. In A Perfect Match, it was a specter looming over Leslie's and Roger's relationship. In Submissive Little Sister, Rick's libido is what led him from dominating Amy to eventually falling for her in the end. And of course the extreme opposite end of the spectrum is The Chair, where any semblance of a relationship completely disappeared, leaving only the sex.

But here, sex really isn't even hinted at until it happens. Scott may worship his cousin, but what he wants from her is love, nothing more. We're not even sure that he's sexually attracted to her, only that he thinks she's beautiful and he's in love with her. You may make the argument that it's impossible to be in love with someone without also being sexually attracted to them, but in this story at least, I don't bring out that part of his emotions. In fact, I deliberately downplay it by having him confess that he's not even sure himself if that's what he wants. Maybe he just wants to go back to that innocent time when they played together as children and best friends.

Some readers might think this story would have been better if I had ended it sooner, say, at the kiss that precedes their lovemaking. I'm not going to argue with that, except to say, what the hell are you doing on a site dedicated to sex stories unless you want to read a story with sex in it?

I apologize for any technical errors. I wanted to get this story posted today, and I just finished it yesterday, so I haven't had time to proofread it. I'll probably look it over later and re-upload it after fixing any mistakes I find.
