THE EROTIC WRITINGS OF DADDYCUMS

Copying and Distributing My Stories

If you would like to download my stories either for your own personal collection or to share with others, please read the following information. The information on this page was compiled from several of my other pages.

How To Download My Stories

I've set up this site so that it's easy to download my entire collection. Please do. All of the links are relative except the Permanent Address and Directory View at the top of the main page, and the occasional link to an external site. What this means is that if you download everything to your local hard drive and preserve the directory structure, you'll have a copy of my whole site, with working links to the stories, that you can read offline.

There are two ways to download it. The hard way is to go to the Directory View and download each file individually, making sure to save them in the correct folders. My web pages use no external files, including images or external CSS, so saving the page in the browser will get everything you need for that particular page.

If you want to do it this way to grab the entire site, that's fine, but there's a much simpler way. Use an FTP client instead.

I know what you're thinking. What? An FTP client is the easy way? But I've never used an FTP client before! I'm afraid!

Really, it's not as scary as you might think. Once you try it, you'll wonder why you were so afraid in the first place. I dare you to try it, even just to prove me wrong.

There are plenty of free FTP clients that you can download. I use Filezilla myself, and so these instructions are tailored to it, but most FTP clients should be similar.

To download my site, first start your FTP client program. Log in to ASSTR by typing the following into the Host field:

ftp.asstr.org

Click the Quickconnect button. You're now logged in. The window is divided into three panes. On the left are your local files, on the right are remote files (i.e. on the ASSTR FTP site), and on the bottom is the Queue. Double-click on the "pub" folder on the right. This opens the folder, which contains several other files and folders. Now double-click on the "Authors" folder. Wait a couple of seconds for it to display the contents, which is a very long list of folders, each representing a different author. Scroll down until you see the "Daddycums" folder. You don't need to open it; just have it visible on the screen.

Now you need to decide where to put the files. On the left, browse to your hard drive. If you have a folder for ebooks, open it on the left. If not, you'll probably want to make one. You can use the right-click popup menu to create a new folder.

All you need to do now is drag the "Daddycums" folder from the right into the ebooks folder on the left. In the Queue at the bottom you will see how many files it has left to download. It will take a few minutes as it counts down to 0, after which you will have a complete copy of my site to browse offline. During the download, don't worry if it disconnects from the server. The download will still continue. After it's done, you can just close the program.

Now see? That wasn't so hard.

If you just want the stories, they're all under the Stories folder, separated out by HTML, Text, and PDF. The PDF versions include only the full stories, not the individual chapters. All of the files in the main folder and other subfolders are part of the website, not part of the stories.

You can download other authors' folders or stories the same way, but keep in mind that they may not keep all their files on the FTP site, so you won't necessarily get what you see on their web site.

Rules For Distributing My Stories

All of my works are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.

This means that as long as you give me credit, you can copy and distribute them however you want. In fact, please do. I'd love to see them appear in other people's collections online. The only things you're not allowed to do are modify or sell them. Converting them to other formats, e.g. plain text or PDF, is fine as long as you preserve the actual text of the stories, give me credit, and don't remove the license notification at the bottom.

Let me explain the various pieces of the license, especially the places where I'm a little more lenient than the license stipulates.

Attribution

This is pretty basic. It means that if you distribute my stories, you must let the readers know that Daddycums is the author. The easiest way to do this is to preserve the byline after the title of every story. This is the only part of the license that I'm not willing to compromise on, because it shouldn't put a burden on anyone unless you're trying to plagiarise my work, and in that case I'm not going to do you any favors.

Noncommercial

Simply put, you cannot make money off of my work without my permission. Of course, there are some legal gray areas. Putting my stories on an ad-supported website, for instance. While the license itself technically doesn't allow it, I'll be generous and say that that's fine as long as there are other stories on the site as well. I don't want someone gaining revenue from only my stories, because that's revenue that rightfully should go to me. Since there's no way to quantify the percentages if there are other stories on the site, it's not worth the hassle that I would have to go through to try to get some money from the site operator.

I'm mainly worried about people restricting access to my works except to those who pay. I don't want people doing so without my permission. However, I am willing to negotiate if someone wants to print hard copies and sell them, for instance.

No Derivative Works

This means that if you're going to copy my stories, you must keep them identical to how you received them. Technically, you're allowed to modify the format all you want, as long as you preserve the actual text. If you want to modify the stylesheet or otherwise reformat the HTML, that's fine. If you want to convert it to PDF, or Rich Text, or Open Document Format, or any of the various ebook formats, go right ahead. Whenever possible, preserve the markup as well (especially italics) but if the file format doesn't provide for markup, that's fine. Also, if the file format allows for hyperlinks, I would like you to keep the link back to my ASSTR page in the byline, but I won't feel too bad if you don't.

If you want to add my stories to an anthology, that works too. Just keep the notice about the license on my stories, even if the other stories are under a different license or no license at all.

I'm also not too concerned about fan fiction. If for some reason you want to use my characters in your own original works or write your own stories in the same universe, it doesn't bother me. I merely ask that you give me credit for anything you borrow from me without implying that I in any way endorse your work. Something like "Based upon characters created by Daddycums" would be appropriate.

3.0

It just means it's the third version of the license. Duh.

United States

This doesn't mean you can only distribute my stories in the United States. It just means that the license was tailored to the legal environment of the United States. Other countries may have loopholes that let you get around these restrictions, but there's nothing I can do about that so I'm not going to try.

So that's it. I feel I'm being more than reasonable, so there really shouldn't be any reason to infringe on my copyright. You would have to go out of your way to do so, in fact. In summary, as long as you don't modify, plagiarise, or make money off of my stuff, feel free to share it all you want.
