So you've chosen
to go,
Ezri by your side,
blissful look upon
her face.

And here I am,
bidding you goodbye
as you leave,
taking a part of
me with you.

I bared my soul
to you.
You said you were
flattered, but ...
you loved another.

I said I understood
and walked away,
dying inside, feeling
my heart shatter
inside my chest.

And so...

I pick them up
one by one.
The edges have been
worn smooth
by the hands of time.

I place them on
the bed before me,
as I've done before.
The ritual is an old,
though not welcome one.

The pieces get smaller
every time,
and they never
quite fit together
like they should.

If I close my eyes
I can almost imagine
how it looked
in the beginning,
when we first met.

Full of hope and longing,
I thought I'd found
the one - the other half
of my soul, my heart,
my life.

Reality intrudes and
I place the last
pieces together.
There's one more missing
than last time,
and I cry.

I can feel the hole;
an ache where something
is missing.
The best part of my life
... is gone.
